Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

This is a minor thing, but I thought if in Smash 4 it'd be cool if we can toggle the option for Team Battles to use team colours or not. Like, it'd be cool to fight together as the Mario Bros without having green Mario, or a red Luigi

edit: Loving those icons Ryce

I know we get plenty of mentions around here of cut content / on-disc data in Brawl, but who's to say they found the technical capacity or even want to include some of that old content?

Final Smash audio clips have existed since SSB. Mewtwo, Toon Zelda and Plusle & Minun Pichu Bros. for SSB5 confirmed?

I think the villain characters that were planned for SSB64 all eventually making it into the game(s) as playable characters speak about Sakurai's desire to make his ideas come true. It took Wolf a whole 8 years to finally make it into Smash, but he has been planned since 64. :P

Pikachu, Jiggly Puff, Lucario, Pkmn Trainer.

I don't see how the next brawl good could be bad. If anything it's just going to keep getting better lol. WOO HOOOO!!! Maybe they'll add in patch support I don't think brawl had that, atleast not the Vanilla version brawl. I know Project M did tho :O

I've seen this "Wolf was planned since 64" pop up a lot here--where's the source on that? The original SSB64 site only listed Dedede, Mewtwo, and Bowser as having been planned.

Wolf was actually planned for 64 and Melee. Wolf got nixed from Melee because Sakurai felt that Falco was easier to tell apart from Fox, comparing to Wolf.

In some post-Brawl interviews, when asked about content that had to be cut from the game, Sakurai kept his mouth shut in the event that a new Smash Bros. was to be made. It's not a guarantee or anything, but it's something to think about. Sakurai's already shown a willingness for returning to planned/cut content with characters like Bowser, Dedede, Mewtwo, and Villager.

Also, for Brawl's planning document, Sakurai took photographs of posed action figures replicating every animation for the new characters -- this would logically extend to the characters Sakurai didn't have time to include. Perhaps sitting on those finished character designs for eight years would be reason enough to return to them.

Just for the hell of it, here are my five most wanted newcomers (after Villager, Mega Man, and Little Mac):

Realistically, only Pac-Man, Dixie, and maybe Toon Zelda are plausible.

I would kill for Excite Biker or Mach Rider. Excite Bike had a Wiiware game right? There's also Excite Truck and Excitebots stuff they could pull from.

Wasn't the Excitebiker a planned character for Melee but lost over Ice Climbers? He would be really cool.
He was considered, which carries a much different connotation than "planned." The reason Sakurai gave for excluding him ("there would need to be ramps") is pretty weak, though. He could easily summon them like Sonic's springs.

I've been playing TF all day

and for the love of fuck sakurai better not give DK his voice from this game

it's horrible

Best DK voice was in Jungle Beat.

Tangent: I wish if DK played like he did in Jungle Beat. He would be mained so goddamned fast. Snatching dudes out of the air with stretchy arms then pummeling them all day? Classic.

If Pacman does become part of the roster for Super Smash Bros. 4, I'm really curious to see what kind of a move-set he would have. His Final Smash would probably be him transforming into his arcade-counterpart & he would chow down on all other players (and possibly items) to restore his health & such, but what moves can he do that can make reference to his 30+ year history?

I'm speaking out of ignorance as I only played the NES Exitebike, but what sort of moveset would an Excitebiker posses? I mean yes, we have C. Falcon and Fox & Friends, I'm not doubting anything could arise, but I'm curious on what some of you could see him do.

I wanna play action figures with Sakurai.

Wheelies, drifting, summoning ramps to jump off of...

Weak attacks - basic bumps, wheelies, turns, etc.
Air attacks
Standard or down special - turbo boost (charge and release for a quick zip across the stage)
Side special - drift/tail whip/sharp turn (deflects projectiles)
Up special - ramp jump (ramp stays on the stage for a bit so you can jump off it again)

That's probably one of the reasons he'd be difficult to implement in the Smash series. A guy on a bike would be pretty difficult to design moves for, especially if he's going to remain on his bike the whole time.

I'll cut Toon Zelda and Dixie from that plausible list. I think one toon character is enough. Anymore and we'll start hearing the "clone" cries again. It's bad enough with Wolf.

Dixie doesn't really have anything else going for her besides her hair flip, really. Diddy is more dynamic in his repertoire and abilities.

I don't find excitebiker to be a very interesting character, but I would imagine he would not always have his bike with him. Pretty much exactly like Wario.

Ramps wouldn't be the equivalent of Sonic's springs. The ramps would be much larger.

There are ramps/dirt hills of varying sizes in World Rally, so I don't see why the ramps would absolutely have to be huge. There have been much bigger liberties taken with working characters into Smash Bros. than slightly changing the size of a ramp.

Huh. Guess that's when you know you're overthinking things. These sound much more plausible than whatever I was thinking of.

Can someone give me the link of that Sakurai/spongebob video with ridley, I want to show it to a friend.

Here you go.

Not true. Diddy has his peanut gun, rocket barrel, cartwheels, and tail. Dixie has her helicopter/propeller hair that also acts as arms to lift and throw things along with her bubblegum gun.

Everything else between them is made-up ape shit done for Smash Bros. purposes. Anyone can have a versatile moveset if you just spend time on it.

Decided to do the same thing, though I have no clue what the font they're using on the site's character icons are.

Before SSB4's reveal my top 5 went something like this:

After E3/Mac's reveal, it's looking more like this at the moment:
Cms1Aaq.png

I'm 50/50 on Ridley and Shulk, but I'll be really surprised if the other three don't get in easily.

All aboard the nairplane! Neeeeaoowwwwww!

...still sad virtually no newcomer in Brawl has the kick. I doubt Smash 4 will bring it either.

Poor K. Rool. He was my top choice before Tropical Freeze was announced. That pretty solidified that the Kremlings are gonna be gone for a while, if not forever. I'm banking on Dixie
but I'd also take Cranky please, or both. You could give us both.

Project M has you covered.

Looks pretty goofy with Toon Link's traditionally stubby legs extending out like that, but I guess it's no different than all the stretchy limbs we're seeing in Smash 4?

Yep, Toon Link in Project M is really nice to play as. I love all the changes they made to him. I'm also finding DK to be one of my favorite characters in that game.

Yo

how many smash reveals gonna happen at e3 this year?

I'm thinking one or two newcomers. I do think they will show more gameplay and maybe even some new features like WiiU/3DS connectivity and maybe even alt costumes.

Heh, I hate all these characters. Unless Toon Zelda turns into Tetra, that'd be good.

My top 5:

Wonder Red, Shulk, Hades, Mewtwo, Palutena.

Here is my old post from many pages ago, but it's still relevant.

My original top 10 before the reveal were

1. Mega Man
2. Little Mac
3. Takamaru
4. Paletuna
5. Animal Crossing Representative
6. Pac Man
7. Isaac (or Golden Sun Representative)

8. Duck Hunt Dog
9. Donkey Kong Country Representative (Dixie or King Rool)
10. Ridley

My top 10 after Little Mac's reveal

1. Takamaru
2. Palutena
3. Pac Man
4. Isaac (or Golden Sun Representative)

5. Duck Hunt Dog
6. Donkey Kong Country Representative (Dixie or King Rool)
7. Shulk
8. Ridley
9. Third Kid Icarus Representative (Medusa, Hades or Dark Pit)
10. Advance Wars

If you see characters that are being bolded; those characters are the characters that I really want to see to be playable character. Rest of characters are bonus to me if they got in.

I guess my current top 5 would be Mewtwo, Pac-Man, K. Rool, Paper Mario character, and... idunno, Medusa. Frankly so many major characters are already in the roster that there aren't many more I REALLY care about. Even in my top 5, Mewtwo is the only one I would be upset to find missing, the rest are just cool additions if they happen to make it in.

These lists need more Tiki
Tiki for Female FE rep.

Let's go Mar-Mar.

Lin too because she's the superior Advance Wars: Days of Ruin character.

large.jpg

My top 5 that I believe have a chance are...

  • Takamaru
  • Palutena
  • Mewtwo
  • Isaac
  • Another Pokemon / Fire Emblem / Zelda representative
There are more characters I think would be interesting, like Shulk, Lip, Ray MK and Ridley, but I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if they make it in.

It also feels a bit odd that there's isn't much "Wars" recognition in Smash Bros. The assist trophy is great, though.

Top 5 for me (% of actually happening):
1. Majora's Mask Link with Transformations [With Fierce Deity final smash] (5%)
zmm-link1.jpg

2. Shulk (40%)

3. Poo (20%)

4. Robin [With male/female skins] (60%)

5. King K. Rool (30%)

I obviously have hopes that won't be met, but I'm still incredibly excited about the Newcomers thus far. Can't wait to get my hands on this game.

List time?
Palutena and Lucina.
Adam from Other M with the power to lock down all your attacks.
Sin and Punishment rep
Flynn from SMTIV
Edea from Bravely Default
Tsugumi because she's better than Naruto. Have you seen my avatar? HNNNG.
