Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

...

What the hell, why doesn't the music in NSMB sound like this? Ok, some of the instrument choices could still be better, but bwah bwah makes it infinitely better already.

The team that develops NSMB considers every part of the aesthetic to be part of the simplistic, back to roots appeal.

It's dumb, but there you go.

Evolution of the Bumper in Super Smash Bros. http://smashbros-miiverse.com/items/bumper

So many memories. The bumper has got to be one of the funniest items out there.

That is very empathetic of you, Heath. Honestly, it isn't a big deal because we are dealing with art in motion. If it sounds off to one person, it might be orgasmic to 1000 others like Stickerbrush remix from brawl which I like better than the OG one and on the flip side, I think the ocarina of time medley is awful compared to the OG music and doesn't do it justice at all, even as a medley.

That castle theme...My God it's so divine.

I know. Using the right instruments can make such a difference. An orchestra transforms a forgettable, bland soundtrack like NSMBs into something awesome.

Do the right thing, Sakurai. Everything needs to be orchestrated, Melee style.

I think playstation all stars could have worked as well if they didn't go with that combo/super system and it received better support.

Competitive play was actually a focus for the game unlike smash.

2 v 2 was a lot of fun. Wish it could have had better support too. Then again, I'm just a sucker for Smash-esque games in general.

Not getting your point at all.

Speaking of awful music, have you heard the music for the Yoshi's new Island website? There may still be hope yet.

Plus the point Daboss was trying to make was that they didn't have to use that same god damn theme for 3 separate games. Shit was okay for the first play through of new super Mario bros but I didn't play the 2nd or 3rd one because it was the same music and it grated. Same thing with Phantom hourglass. Still never beat it because I couldn't stand the same terrible dungeon theme used throughout..

So if the trend continues as it has been the past few months, What two characters do you think will be revealed this month? Considering Nintendo Directs are once every two months we likely won't get a new character reveal.

Wait, I thought NSMB DS had remixed SMB music, seems that is not the case...so it is 4 games that used the same music, with NSMBU being the only one with a new theme. Though NSMB2 had the SMW boss theme as well for the Reznor battles.

Not getting your point at all.

And....? NES soundtracks were next to barren wastelands, LoZ I think had a grand total of 3 songs (Overworld, Dungeon theme, Ganon's dungeon)

My point is that SMB1's Overworld theme has been used and remixed in significantly more games (hell I don't even remember in how many games it appeared in) than the NSMB Overworld theme, which, as BGBW demonstrated, aren't exactly the same song just copypasted.

But its usage is much more limited and varied; outside of the Japanese SMB2, it wasn't used/remixed as a normal overworld theme again. The NSMB overworld is a group of very similar songs (more so than many versions of the original theme) that are all used for the same purpose in a large amount of areas in the games.

It's a pretty big difference.

But they are not completely different. The difference is miniscule.

Those are merely remixes that are used for certain segments of games, not using nearly the whole soundtrack for sequels.

Has another game used all of SMB1's themes as pretty much the only songs?

EDIT: Right, Japanese SMB2 does. it is a remix of SMB in general.

What he and Daboss said :D

That same awful theme without much variation is used throughout most levels of like 4 separate games, not to mention how ridiculously timeless the original SMB theme is, anyway. No comparison.

I like this.

I like this, too. I'm hoping for a healthy mix of Orchestra and MIDI like Kid Icarus: Uprising did, so hopefully Sakurai will continue down that path.

Uh..,I want to point out that I think it is rude to ignore the music team behind super smash brothers. Sakurai may have say but he isn't a sound designer so give respect where respect is due 0_o

If you and others keep alienating a part of Sakurai's team, you can kiss your smash bros goodbye because they will boycott the fans.
