Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

And plenty of people out there have enjoyed Twin Snakes on their Gamecubes and MGS on their GBC.

I'm sure they do. Barely recognizable downgrade port jobs and gen late remakes are a pretty big deal.

Incoming Ridley theory!

I've brought this up as far back as E3 and I'm bringing it up again. Now aside from all of Sakurai's vague hints of Ridley's fate I think Bowser might be a clue as well. With all of this talk of characters being unique and such I have to wonder if Sakurai now views Ridley in a similar light to Bowser. They've got this massive, fire breathing, vicious monster thing going and I think Bowser was changed with some of his older assets being given to Ridley since they fit him better.

Many Ridley supporters imagine Ridley as nimble in the air and more of a lumbering fool on the ground. Like Dedede I suppose but more extreme. My guess is Bowser's old skeletal posture was given to Ridley and Bowser was made more upright to differentiate them. Ridley may also inherit Bowser's old dash attack which strikes with a bite being backed by his full body but causes him to hit the floor and lag. Pretty much like his awkward walking and dashing in Prime 1 and 3.

Not only that but Bowser is no longer a skate boarder and that odd run may be given to Ridley as well. Only with Ridley he would run with wings stretched out giving that slight illusion of flight, exactly like Charizard, Metaknight and Mewtwo.

Sure I'm reaching sky high, but Bowser getting the revamp he did with more kicking attacks strikes me as something that came in major part to differentiate some of his basic animations from Ridley.

THE END?

Sorry, I misspoke. Irrelevant handheld spin-offs are a pretty big deal.

Also, Bowser's AA combo is now two punches instead of two claw swipes (which Ridley actually uses in Other M).

ridley confirmed guys

These anti-Snake "arguments" were tiring eight years ago. It's already happened. Snake is now an established Smash Bros. veteran. And the back of the Japanese Brawl box says "Nintendo All-Stars Plus Guests." The guests are considered separate from the Nintendo all-stars. Snake is a gaming icon and Konami's most popular character.

Speaking of final smashes I really hope Sakurai reworked a lot of them. They were ridiculously unbalanced and then ones like Ganondorf's or Star Fox's was pure lazy.

Being a Peach player is not fun when this happens.

Tomodachi is a Japanese game but it's not obscure - it's a million seller!

Also it's apparently coming over.

You know what else is irrelevant? Half the franchises in Smash Bros.!

Not irrelevant to Nintendo's history. There may be some franchises that aren't currently active, but they all represent Nintendo's robust portfolio as a developer, and console manufacturer. Metal Gear represents Nintendo's poor relations with third parties. The series first came to Nintendo platforms in the form of a downgraded NES port, and continued with handheld spin-offs, and came back with a gen late port that Nintendo had to pay for. Metal Gear is a good example of Nintendo struggling to get third party content. So excuse me if I don't think that fits in well with Smash.

Who gives a shit about all that, I wanna have Snake fighting Mario.

So excuse me if I don't think that fits in well with Smash.

The problem there is that people who play Smash Bros. don't generally care about Nintendo's third party relations.

It's cool that Snake is in Smash Bros. Snake is a gaming icon. Smash Bros. is a collection of gaming icons. Snake is relevant to Nintendo's history by being a thing that Nintendo has no pair for. He's the un-Nintendo. A thing that can coexist beside them but never truly belong.

And for the vast majority of us, that's cool.

(also twin snakes isn't a port, it's a total ground up new game. it's a completely different and that's also cool and not at all something that should be held against it)

Isn't Miyamoto supposedly working on a new IP? Any chance we'll get a hint of the game in Smash bros like a trophy that'll say "future release" like they did with Animal Crossing in Melee? Maybe even a character.

I saw your review at his deviant.com, so I think you should be happy with what he did.
I am, believe me. :P But my inner Grammar Nazi can't help but point out mistakes like that when I see them in stuff that I like. The fact that I even bothered pointing out something like that says a lot about how much I actually like the art. I usually only give criticism to the stuff that I like most, because I want it to be improved if it can.

I think the art is a lot better now that things are more consistent with it.

Honestly, I want Snake back if only for the codec calls. They were easily one of those charming aspects of Brawl, and really paid service to both Nintendo and MGS.

Out of the revealed characters so far, which characters do you think you'll end up playing first once you boot up the game for the first time ever?

First: Peach
Second: Little Mac
Third: Rosalina
Fourth: Wii Fit Trainer
Fifth: Mega Man

1. Marth
2. Rosalina
3. Mega Man
4. Pit
5. Fox

Runners up: Bowser because of the crazy amount of changes he got and Samus because I hope she'll be godlike.

This is all fine and dandy. We just view the series differently. I think Snake was a poor choice. There are plenty of other third party character to choose from that fall in line with the original theme of the series. Mega Man is a good example. We will see what happens, but I think it is obvious that I am not rooting for Snake's return.

Ahahaha I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who's accidentally called Doc Louis "Doc Brown." I've barely played punchout though, and BttF is an immeasurably bigger pop culture phenomenon.

I agree with I'm Finished... y'all "LOL it's cool to see Snake fightin Mario" people are just two steps away from the Goku Miiverse plebites. I'll none of it. Snake cut 2k14.

Some more appropriate newcomers;
I can't believe you just called a GTA character "appropriate" for Smash Bros., lol.

Banjo > every other non-Nintendy reps.

Imagine, Banjo got in; but he was confined to his car/plane whilst fighting, and every attack was vehicle based. And his Final Smash was him blocking the screen by flipping the bird (lol) at the screen... at the players...

Snake is unironically the best character in Smash Bros. and anyone who dislikes him is an immoral human being.

I always knew I was immoral anyways.

Isn't that pretty much what Rare did after Tooie? I'd cry again.

Nuts 'n' Bolts was okay.

All this irrational anti-Snake fanboy salt is hilarious. I didn't even care very much one way or the other if he came back for Smash 4, but now I hope he does just to piss off all the anti-Snake whiners and quiet all the braying. My god, you people.

I like Snake but he's barely even relevant to his own franchise anymore, let alone Smash. All about that Keifer Big Boss now.

Get Konami to do a 3DS remake of Ghost Babel and I'll allow it.
