I think I'm getting bored of Smash 4... I'm considering going back to PM soon
People tend to be overly attached to a game while it's still new and everyone's hyped. It's probably for the best just to keep real opinions (if negative) away from the OT for a couple weeks. Smash fans are also pretty divided in general, so any 'I like this one better than that one' always has the chance to open the can of worms.
No, real opinions positive or negative are 100% welcome here. There's no benefit to having the thread be an echo chamber. I think/hope most of us are adults here. That being said, how one presents their opinion (both sides) can have a big influence on the readability of the thread. Like (as one example) I can understand some potential concerns about VI/Rage but some posts during that time period read like freakouts and made the thread near unreadable. Even if things don't change for the better (which is assuming things are even bad now
) I don't get why saying things are early is something to be frowned upon when I feel I can say the same when discussing or thinking about the metagame of any new fighting game?
Anyway being bored of a game after less than two weeks is certainly a reasonable opinion one can have - I hope nobody is giving you too much shit for it. However, I don't think it's unusual that some find that opinion weird though. I don't tend to become bored with fighting games after a matter of weeks unless I think the game is outright BAD though so when I hear someone say something of the sort, that's the sentiment that I feel is being expressed. That may or may not be fair though.
The idea that everyone wants the game X to play like Melee is a bit of a tired meme and I wish people would think a little more before they say as much. However, whenever I see people saying (not saying this applies to you two but the following statements come up VERY frequently still) "why doesn't Sakurai design game X like like Melee, EVERYBODY loved it the way it was" demonstrates a lack of perspective that is frustrating. Even amongst fighting game series that have had entries that many agreed weren't "up to snuff", or had entries that all played super different from each other there doesn't seem to be the degree of animosity that sometimes leads to down right toxic conversations. Maybe I've missed them but there doesn't seem to be any significant, recurrent strife between Street Fighter 3 and Street Fighter 4 players despite how different those game play. I'll never understand why its a thing with Smash.
As an aside, I will say, if Melee remains the headliner game of the competitive community in 2016 (at Evo 2016 over Smash 4), it better be because we've been able to objectively (or as close as possible) discern that Smash 4 is an AWFUL game. Individual preferences of Melee over Smash 4 are 1000% fine but at that community level it becomes a bit embarrassing (again assuming Smash 4 doesn't turn out to be super shitty).
