Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

Shiny Chesnaught looks great.

What Sakurai should have done is given some characters 2 FS. One that's effective in KO-ing 1 character (think Link's FS) and another that is a less effective crowd control move (like Mario's). Characters with transformations should just have just that 1 FS.

The more I think about it the more I think the customisable movesets are the biggest game changer we've heard about so far, it completely changes how matchups are going to work in the competitive scene if they're going to be balanced around being side grades with upsides and down sides rather than some being better than others, you wouldn't have to stop using your favourite character just because he matches up badly to your opponent anymore.

You're a slow heavy character facing a combo heavy character? Replace one of your attacks with a weaker version that has super armour so you have more of a chance of breaking it up.

You're playing as someone with a projectile reflector against someone who has no projectiles? Change it to an attack that doesn't reflect at all but does a bit of damage and hitstun so you can mix it up with some different combos.

It sounds like it could be, by far, one of the best additions to the series if they do it right, which is why it's such a shame I haven't really seen it be discussed much.

I love every single thing they announced last night. Best news was Final Destination for each level. I hated playing FD all the time with friends because it got stale after a while. This should remedy that.

Torterra says otherwise >=(

But really, I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't a grass starter in the game. I don't think Sakurai's intentions with Greninja were to replace the trifecta made with Brawl's PT, like some people here seem to be implying.

There's more to choosing Greninja, and it seems centred on the idea that Greninja's suited very well to a game like Smash Brothers. It's got the humanoid build (not implying that all fighers need to be humanoid in stature, but it seems easier to develop a character like Greninja over, say Dunsparce or Rayquaza. Ivysaur wasn't bipedal, but did utilize it's vines like another character would utilize arms) and the combination of fan appeal and surprise to it.

Most people are assuming Olimar's recovery is good without pikmin and terrible with them, but maybe that's not the case. Maybe the recovery is very good without any pikmin, and still good (but not as good obviously) with them. As far as I can remember, there's no way to tell what is he case from the videos.

In the video he could barely get over the stick with three Pikmin (the stick that's what - a jump? Double jump for Greninja?), but without Pikmin he could fly over it and much more. More horizontal and vertical distance.

If you're only playing FD, you're doing it wrong. Battlefield and Smashville are great fair stages.

Considering that they can't be used online, I don't think customizable moves are intended for serious play.

So, anyone else think that greninja is essentially a Lucario Clone?

I mean, we've seen a charge neutral B move, substitute as a counter, and his recovery move looking like a combination between pikachu's quick attack and Lucario's extremespeed. That's basically 3/4...

I'd imagine that that wasn't an option, seeing as how the Wii U assets are higher res and will take more time to develop, plus you'd assume that the console version will have more content and more full-featured online systems.

Well yeah obviously the Wii U version will take longer to develop. But what I'm suggesting is that they could have delayed the 3DS version into 2015. Wouldn't benefit the consumer, but it would most likely benefit Nintendo.

Maybe if you're the type of person who only uses B moves.

That probably has more to do with making it a snappy experience and keeping the netcode clean and consistent.

Online is hardly the intended place for serious competitions anyway.

Wow, really? Delaying a game with enormous sales potential by 6 to 12 months would help Nintendo?

I honestly don't even know how to respond to that! Haha.

But that gives us the conundrum I posted above (quoted here)

Sakurai warns against powering up too much, though, as shown with Lucario's Extremespeed with high aura. So it doesn't seem like it's *not* his Final Smash, either.

Simplest explanation is that he does max damage regardless of actual damage taken. He's probably also harder to kill, as per most transformations.

But who knows, really.

He said that they can't be used in online with strangers.

And, generally speaking, serious play isn't even a thing online, you might get close to it playing with friends in a lobby but that's still not perfect.

He looks way faster. Sheik is one of my favorite characters and Greninja looks similar to her more than Lucario. Regardless I'm looking forward to playing as him.

oh fucking hell
first it was "Lucario is a Mewtwo clone", now this?

I bet Mega Evolution happens based on how long Lucario has been in the match without a KO.
Doesn't make much sense really, as at that point Aura has probably built up anyway. It also is the opposite of a comeback mechanic, and is unrelated to Mega evos in x and y.

Overall the direct was pretty great. I just hope they balance the characters enough this time. It was borderline impossible to do well with some characters before like all the Zelda characters besides Toon Link and Falcon.

edit: forget I said Kirby keep getting mixed up with melee

I just rewatched the part and you're right, the recovery is pretty crappy with pikmin (although that could depend on the types of pikmin held, as Olimar is holding a purple one when he uses the recovery them)

Also, the recovery without pikmin is pretty damn good. Funny how that changed from Brawl. In Brawl, more pikmin = better recovery, in this one is the complete inverse.

Since we're talking about shinies as alt - too bad that we didn't get Mega Charizard Y.

Instead of this badass:

We'll see this...uhh...fancy...dragon

When we use the Shiny Charizard color scheme :/

As much as I'd love Sceptile (to complete the trifecta and to also have my favorite final form starter in the game, and hey Hoenn remakes are coming sometime maybe), I really doubt we'll get a grass starter in the game.

And besides, Pokemon is a series that chooses reps by popularity, and no grass starter is that popular. If we got a gen 3 rep it'd be Blaziken anyways :/

Don't worry, He's got good odds if Pokken becomes an actual thing.
