Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 9: F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5

This is how I view the main Zelda characters in Smash Bros.:

Link - courageous swordsman (mid-range/balanced)
Zelda - wise mage (keeps a distance)
Ganondorf - powerful warlock (hard-hitting close range fighter)

I like Ganondorf's focus, I just don't like many of the attacks themselves. He doesn't commit to using a particular weapon in the Zelda games, so I'd rather he fight empty handed. I just want to see the ball of lightning (neutral B) and a few dark magic attacks.

Warlock means "close range" to you?

He does commit to a weapon though. The trident. It's been in more games than not at this point I think.

I'd love to eat crow, but nah, not getting hyped on this one. Sakurai would at least have teased it on Miiverse or something.

If I remember correctly, before the Nintendo Digital Event Sakurai didn't say anything about it, neither in Miiverse, Twitter or PotD... yet we got a lot of info and character announcements. So... BELIEVE!

I didn't mean to cause so much hype by posting that flyer! Sorry guys. Here are two better pictures, just because.

Edit: I read some comments on news sites (is this flyer really news-worthy?) that there's a silhouette. That's not the case. It's just a black image with a question mark.

Why is that 2nd flyer using the English names in that screenshot bottom right?

Warlock means "close range" to you?
"Warlock" doesn't inherently imply a preferred fighting distance (magic can be used in a variety of ways), but being a tall, slow villain who wields the Triforce of Power suggests he fits the fighting game power character archetype quite well. It makes for a nice trifecta with Link as the all-arounder and Zelda as the "apprehensive" distance fighter.

Dormammu is a tall, slow, power-based character that is primarily ranged. I dont think Ganondorf's "power" status means anything. Sure, he can be close range, but I don't think he needs to be glued to that .

But in two of his three appearances, Ganondorf uses close ranged attacks, uncluding punches and sword strikes.

I think Ganondorf needs to be powerful but not broken but also bring his own flair of elements from the games he is in and essentially bring the best of both worlds of the technical aspects of Zelda's Magic while having great close range melee options and then some aspects unique to Ganondorf out of the 3.

Or simply make him more then a slower more powerful Capt. Falcon.

You're comparing E3, the biggest VG-related event in the world, to the WHF, a Japanese-centric event that's not even VG-focused.

And Sakurai didn't even need to tease anything: everyone knew there'd be characters reveals during E3.

Believe me, don't expect anything.

Worst case scenario, there IS a character reveal tomorrow and it'll be real surprise ;)

I wouldn't mind if Ganondorf had a move where he pulls out his sword and uses it. Or another where he uses the trident.

His entire moveset doesn't need to revolve around a single weapon.

Best case scenario is if Ganondorf is the fifth (and final) character to get the Mii/Palutena treatment.

A set focused on his base melee/brawl moveset, one on his weaponry, and one on spells and projectiles.

Or shoot, keep the base moveset just add variations on the animations.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that he said something about Digital Event and E3.

I don't think there's going to be a reveal tonight. I do think that think it's possible that this image is showing the Mii Fighters could actually take up 3 spaces on the roster though. Which would shoot massive holes in the whole character select screen theory.

Ganon's most common attacks in the Zelda series are melee weapons like swords and tridents and ranged magic attacks and Smash Bros Ganon has neither of those.

The text below the ?????? says "There are still other fighter characters that will debut/appear!" So I it doesn't seem to be hinting at a character reveal during the event, but rather just saying that there are more characters to be revealed in the future.

Who are the other two and how are they ruined?
Samus, by once again not having her bombs explode on contact.

Bowser, by making him walk upright and punch people instead of some of his claw and she'll attacks. Completely aesthetically unattractive, now.

It is a good thing Palutena is in, or I might be entirely uninterested in the roster.

Here's to hoping for Mewtwo, Demise, Ridley, and Hades so I might actually have options.

i always thought samus's bomb's took a while to explode in the metroid games :/ or maybe im remembering wrong and i like bowsers new look to be honest he kinda reminds me of the inside story bowser where i think he punches as his basic attack?

Except :

1) it's no tease, he's just telling people the 3DS version will be playable at the event, and is linking to the official Nintendo page for it.
2) it's only for Japanese readers. If he were teasing something, there would have been a post in English too.

It's not enough that he's just referencing the event? I mean, I see your point but I really want some new info.
