Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 9: F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5

Bomberman: He's been appearing mostly on Nintendo consoles ever since the NES days. Konami owns him now, and I think he would fit much better than Snake.

Bombeman wouldn't be a bad fit but Konami probably wouldn't go for it. Goemon might be a better choice for a secondary Konami guy though.

Simon Belmont: Castlevania started on the NES and while the franchise shifted towards Playstation for a while, the series has thrived on Nintendo's handhelds. The series has a lot of protagonists, but Belmont was the main character in the first two games and in Super Castlevania IV (which was actually a remake of the first game). But do you go with Barbarian Simon, ginger Simon, or Prince Valiant Simon?

Simon is easily the important 3rd party rep that's missing. I would imagine he would look similar to his SCIV incarnation since that it would fit in pretty well with Link and the FE characters. Any look is fine aside from the later ones really(kojima, LoS, Judgment)

Pete/Jack: Who? The kid from Harvest Moon! I thought his name was Jack, but some people say that his official name is Pete. WHATEVER. Anyways he appeared in the original game, the 64 version, all the GBC games, and the GBA game. Harvest Moon has mostly been a Nintendo only franchise and the series is still kicking today.

I don't think Harvest Moon reps are really iconic enough to make an appearance in a dream match like this.

Professor Layton: If they want to pick a more recent character, Layton could work. Level 5 develops a lot of games for Nintendo platforms (thanks for DQIX by the way) and he would be a great DS representative. I always like the inclusion of non-combatant characters in the series.

Phoenix Wright: In the same vein as Layton, he is a non-combatant that has shown up mostly of Nintendo handhelds. He did appear in MvC3 though.

I guess I can see them as being important as far representing DS goes but I just don't think they're important enough to waste guest spots on.

Chocobo: I was trying to think of a good FF representative, but none of the leads really stuck out. Why pick Terra over Cecil for instance? But then I realized Chocobos are in nearly every FF Nintendo game, and some games of the Chocobo series even appeared on the DS/Wii. It would be a good cutesy character, maybe a rival of Yoshi.

Slime: Similar to Chocobo, slimes are an iconic part of Dragon Quest which got its start on Nintendo platforms (and then came crawling back). There are so many different types of slimes, so I think you could have a lot of diversity with its moveset even though the character's appearance is as simple as can be.

FF and DQ reps would fit in but picking a rep seems like a hassle. Slime and Chocobo are pretty mascot-y but I'm sure how much people would to play them.

Ryu Hayabusa: Kind of a stretch. I mean Ninja Gaiden did start on the NES, but the franchise hit the big time with the Xbox reboot. Ryu has appeared in Ninja Gaiden DS and NG3 was on the Wii U though, and Tecmo is very close with Nintendo. I want to see him fight Greninja.

Greninja has pretty much squashed any hopes I had of Takamaru getting in and Ryu is even likely. We are just far too removed from his NES incarnation these days.

Contra dudes: I have no idea what their names are... the dudes! The dudes from Contra! I think they could be similar to Snake, but with crazier weapons. Contra has mostly been on Nintendo platforms throughout its history, even showing up on the Wii and DS.

Simon and Goemon are much better reps as far Konami goes.
..

totally honest here

did sakurai deconfirm Snake or something like that? is there some interview or anything that discuss this topic with him? I am not saying that because if he hasn't been confirmed as removed, he will be in the game, just asking

No. The closest thing we've gotten is Kojima saying pretty much the same thing Sega did before Sonic was announced.

I kinda hope that Stage Builder returns.

I would be surprised and upset if it didn't. Stage Builder was totally unexpected in Brawl, so it's pretty rudimentary design didn't count against it. It's one of those things that was fun and cool but has so much room for improvement. I anticipate a returning stage builder would be really awesome.

I assume much like the fact Sakurai has hardly mentioned any of the old modes that stage builder (if it returns) will be talked about in a pre release Direct. I suspect it will then get one of the more detailed entires on the Smash website to explain it.

Given the focus on customisation, via moves and Miis, expanding on the stage builder would seem likely. And considering they can build directly on their previous setup, and don't have to worry as much about storage space; the end result could be a much more worthwhile feature overall.

If we do get a Stage Builder back, I hope it's less limiting than before. I'd always get some magnum opus stage idea, and due to the placement system, be foiled in some form of tile placement. It doesn't have to be golden, but at least let me place structures not just floating in the air. Never played much on created stages either, sadly. Wanted to more.

I killed my first Game Cube doin that.

Seriously? I would regularly leave my GameCube on for weeks at a time so I could turn on my television and resume where I left off immediately. I did the same with my Wii, too. All my RE4 saves on both systems are maxed out at 999:999 play times and I played the game six times on each.

Added small/large Mii to my size compilation.

I just realized that some taller characters are hunched or in a stance that would lower their height, just like how Wolf does it.

I kinda hope the rest of the remaining unrevealed veterans (Ness, Ganondorf, Falcon, etc. etc) are on the roster from the start and let some of these newcomers be unlockable.

One of the many things I dislike about the way they handled Brawl was how backwards some of the character unlocking was. To me that kinda made the excitement of unlocking things kinda fizzle out cause you were getting characters you already more or less knew were gonna come back, while they made a lot of the newcomers available from the start. I know its a marketing thing but still, its kinda backwards.

I'd have been MUCH more excited and the experience would have felt more rewarding if I were unlocking Meta-Knight, Dedede, Diddy, and all the other newcomers that were already available, as opposed to people like Luigi, Ness, Falcon, etc.

Of course, i'm speaking from the perspective of the person that stays away from internet gaming news and leaks and just prefers to tackle the game with a blindfold. Even without doing so though, from a traditional standpoint, I'd rather be unlocking new characters i've never played with before than character that were already on the game just because of the way they were obtained in a previous entry. Just makes more sense.

Like presently, I dunno if its because of marketing and publicity and whatnot that they "seem" to be playable from the start but I would rather unlock these new characters like Little Mac, Rosalina, Wii Fit Trainer and all the rest, and just give us the characters we had before as starters.

Can someone keep his legacy alive? It's for the future of our children.

Unless he provided the source files at some point, somebody would have to make it from scratch.

Where's the updated version of this?
Can someone make it? Bunch of new characters to add

I've been wanting this too. I could do it, but he doesn't have the source uploaded anywhere, and building this up from scratch is unappealing to me.

It's funny because red white and blue is probably more associated with the Union Jack in Japanese fashion considering how often you see the design on their clothes.

Umm so what was the reason behind Pac-Man appearing in SSB?, are we likely to see any other Namco characters appearing??, if so this is a MUST!!!..........

Why pac man is in this Smash game? Isn't there a recent thread somewhere saying that Miyamoto specifically asked for pac man to be in this Smash?

Because he's a historically significant character to videogames and Nintendo, and because Miyamoto asked for his inclusion.

And it looks like we'll be getting arcade Namco characters (Mappu, Dig Dug) as items and parts of Pacman's moves.

There are tons and tons of chars left. With Ikes inclusion I doubt anyone is cut from Brawl except maybe lucas, and there are probably at least 5-6 newcomers left. Shulk is a given probably since they want Xenoblade Cross to be on peoples radar, similar to Roy in SSBM, Chrom or Lucina are pretty safe bets given awakenings success, it's the biggest deal in fire emblem since at least genealogy of the holy war, and I doubt thats the end of it.

Is it bad that I'm almost as excited for alt costumes for certain vets as I am about old chars returning?

It's very likely that Chrom, Shulk, and Chorus Men are the only remaining newcomers. It's also somewhat likely that Lucas, Ivysaur, Squirtle, and Snake are cut.

There's also no reason to think vets will get alt costumes.

If Namco vs Capcom ever became a thing. I'd love to see Rick Taylor join in on the fun.

He just wouldn't fit with Nintendo at all. Lol.

So everyone needs their own system to play... Exactly as how it would work on Wii U
So? I'm not saying it's not possible, I'm saying that I highly doubt Sakurai would make such a large game mode that's online only. He's all about local multiplayer, as is Nintendo. I can't imagine him using the resources on a mode like that that isn't playable locally as well.

So with EVO around the corner, are we expecting anything from Nintendo? I mean, apparently they're a sponsor of the event. Would the E3 demo build of Smash 4 be out of the question? I don't think it'd be much of a hassle. Revealing Captain Falcon there would also be a good idea.

No. They didn't even have a character at the official tournament. Our present will be not having a streaming debacle like last year.

Besides, Captain Falcon is probably unlockable.

Nah, I wouldn't expect anything at EVO on Smash 4.
However, could we expect any news for Project M at EVO? It seems like that'd be a good time for them to reveal something, but I don't really follow the competitive scene too much.

Wait, what? Is this true?

Sakurai decides what gets revealed when, and I doubt he cares about Evo. He wouldn't even throw a bone to Nintendo of America's E3 tournament.

It's still baffling that they waited until the private conference to reveal Pac-Man.

Whoa! Nintendo sponsoring EVO? That is ultra rad. They've made an intense 180 since last year.

Also it really wouldn't surprise me if we do get Smash 4 info there because of this. Melee's going to be a big deal this year.
