Have we ever gotten any information on how long the Smash GC controller cords are?

I'm assuming standard size but the Wii GC controllers were longer, so maybe they're based off those.
 
Are we still talking about K. Rool? Because before Retro came along, K. Rool was always one of my most wanted Smash Brothers characters. He still is but his relevancy is what I think hurts his chances. I think this campaign Smashboards is doing is a good idea to get their voice heard. I'll do my part and help spread the word because I'd still love to have him in Smash.
 
Yeah, unless he gets reinstated as a villain for a new DK game I don't think K.Rool's chances are looking good for future Smash games. Really cool that Grant Kirkhope tweeted about it though!
 
So I went ahead and made a Google Doc for Project M friend codes. Check it out here! I know have more people's friend codes, but just let me know if you want me to add them (along with Time Zone and your mains if you feel like sharing those as well) and I'll put them on there. Rather not share somebody's code who doesn't want it up there. I'm going to keep it private since there's only a few of us who'll be using it and we don't want it vandalized, so PM your code and other info and I'll add it.

Also, I know Heath and I had discussed doing a Google Doc for Smash 3DS/Wii U once they come out, so if anyone has any suggestions on what else should be on the list, let me know. We can consider this a rough draft for Smash 4's friend list.

That's weird, because it sure seems to me that Tropical Freeze is a real darling on GAF. Lots of people consider it one of the best 2D platformers ever made. Sure everybody is still waiting on the edge of their seat for a new Metroid, but that doesn't mean people hate DKC. Unless you mean specifically the Rare DKC, in which case I would also say that's not at all what I've seen.

But I don't think there is a universal consensus that DKC has lousy characters here at all.

Yeah if anything Retro breathing new life into the DKC series seemed to reignite interest in the overall series. It was really the post-Rare years before Retro I saw the series get a lot of shit for reasons which ranged from balanced critiques (and it WAS overrated as fuck back in '94, and I'm saying this as someone who loves the series) to really dumb ones (because Miyamoto supposedly secretly shit-talked it despite it being his idea in the first place, though I think by now most people look at that with skepticism). It's not on the same level as the SMB/Sonic/Mega Man games in terms of overall polish, but I still hold DKC2 and 3 in high-regard (not to mention DKCR/TF/JB) and feel it deserves the attention it gets in Smash.
if anything Mario is the DK spin-off >:V

Rare didn't have amazing character designers, obviously, but I think the fact people still seem to love Diddy/Cranky and even Dixie/Funky to an extent shows if not visually they could still create characters people remembered long after the novelty of their 90's CGI. K. Rool is dated, definitely, but I still think he's a really fun character, his fights elevated him from being a dull Bowser clone and the small glimpses into his theatrical personality could have been built into something really cool had he stayed relevant after DK64. Plus his blunderbuss is fucking awesome, nobody can take that away for me.

Honestly being a boss in SSB4 is a really nice gesture to the DKC fanbase considering how irrelevant he is now in his own franchise, even if I wanted him to be playable before it became overwhelmingly obvious we'll either get Dixie or nobody at all.

Haha. Same here. I was so worried about this when I bought my lan adapter. Then I looked at my cell phone charger wall plug and was like "hmmmm." Best thing to happen to my WiiU.

No you're absolutely right, he even fights you in a similar way. I like the Smomads, but I still miss K. Rool. I liked how Rare handled him in the original trilogy, and I liked him in the show. It probably helps that a lot of people grew up with the character. It's crazy to think there's kids out there that grew up with Jungle Beat, as a good as game that may be.

I feel old.

Oh the growing up thing is definitely part of it, it's why I wanted Geno back when I was 15 when Brawl was announced before realizing how impractical it was. If I was ten years younger I probably wouldn't give nearly as much of a shit about K. Rool, though I think nostalgia is half the reason why people get excited about Smash Bros. character choices in the first place, so that should be fair enough.

I just feel for as good as the Snowmads and bosses were (and the Tiki's were also alright besides Gohdan from Wind Waker inexplicably being their leader), they still take several cues from the Kremlings before them, even if they take those ideas and execute them better. I don't mind them not coming back, but I would probably mind them being retconned out of existence, if such a thing can happen for a fairly simple platforming series.

In DKC he admittedly moves like a poorly-articulated action figure, but in DKC2 I think the blunderbuss was a really cool way of circumventing that issue while still giving him a neat weapon with a ton of different moves.

The cleaned-up model Nintendo gave him for the spin-off games when Rare left paired with the DKC2 costume would look really nice IMO.

They're clearly holding Mike Jones back to coincide with Star Tropics U.

I still see Takamaru happening via DLC unless we suddenly see him as an AT.

Also, Golden Sun is an extremely mediocre RPG. I played through the first one a few years ago, and honestly the only reason I think it's popular is that it came out during an RPG drought, and it's impressive contextually for a handheld RPG. There's zero character development, the combat is boring and needs a Bravely Default-style "auto" button, and the game cuts out where most RPGs are at the half-way point. The only saving grace of the game is the unique ability to use some spells outside of battle, which was fun, but could have been better. Telepathy was fun at first, but then it became a chore to check everyone's mind to find out what's going on, and most of them don't have a thought in their heads worth reading.

6/10.
 
The only new characters I wanted were Greninja and Palutena so I don't really care who get's in at this point. I guess I would like to see Hades from KI:U or a Inkling from Splatoon but I don't expect either of them.

So say the games launch and they decide to do DLC characters. What would you all think of a fan vote of certain characters and the top 3 fan faves get put in?

I'm sure they could make it Miiverse only or something, connect your vote to your profile. One vote per system so the voting process couldn't get mucked up. No random fan selections
like Shrek or Batman or Bat Shrek
but actual viable characters like ones that got cut or are already in the game as assist trophies. Could even have accepted 3rd party characters on there maybe.

Could be huge for Smash to keep the speculation and talk going.

I'm not a fan of this idea. I want Sakurai to put in those characters he himself really wants, because if he wants the character in, then he probably has a good, clear vision of what to do with that character - in other words, we're sure to get a quality character. I don't want the DLC to be subpar characters that Sakurai shoehorned in just because alot of people wanted them. If Sakurai has a solid plan for a character, he'll make it happen. Otherwise, don't bother.

Doubtful.

That would mean they'd have to work on the characters after the vote was tallied, which means DLC would likely end up coming out pretty far off in the future---or just not at all, like what happened to the votes for DLC Characters for Sonic All-Star Racing Transformed.

I imagine Sakurai and his team likely have other projects planned after Smash Brothers, and DLC is likely already planned and being worked on. They're not gonna wait.
