Today's Update

Pic of the day. I talked about an attack with a far reach in yesterday's post, but it didn't compare to Palutena's up smash attack! No joke, it reaches really far. It reached so far in this shot that even the rocketbarrels got blown up.

That said, if we're talking just about range, even that can't beat Palutena's power, Heavenly Light. It has quite a damage field. However, this is a no-flinch attack, which means the opponents won't react to the damage!

lol at that up smash. jeebus

So what's the verdict? Was the invitational version more unfinished than this one? Or is is implemented but only on certain attacks/characters? Either way, glad to see this back.

Apparently they are the same demos. The methods of testing may have been different. I remember MIOM people stating they used smart bombs to test for SDI and didn't seem to notice it much. I can't remember all the ways they tested it. in the video you can clearly see it being used and allowing ZSS to act quicker. It was from a demo though so this could always change for better or worse implementation.

I actually figured it was the same demo but wanted to leave room for interpretation. I'm guessing that maybe a few longstanding mechanics are actually present but may have gotten slight changes to how their performed then.

I really hope the Earthbound franchise gets more love in this game than it did in Brawl, but with Lucas seemingly on his way out, it seems unlikely. What I really would like to see is Paula as a newcomer. They could give her all the moves Ness "stole" and redesign Ness so that he actually plays like he did in Earthbound. Give him his slingshot and more yoyo tricks. Incorporate the SMAAAAAAASH hits somehow. PSI Rockin as a final smash. Hell, Jeff has huge potential as a character too with all his gadgets. Even Poo would be very unique.

A man can dream...

Preach it, brother. I understand the Mother series doesn't have as large a fanbase as most of the other franchises represented but I'd really love to see it get more representation as far as playable characters...

Ness' new Final Smash should be him calling his Mom and then his dog runs in and kills everyone.

No they should just give him the real PSI Rockin' Omega and have all those weird rainbowy psychedelic lines hit the screen and do massive damage.

To be fair, DI code is pretty complex, the E3 demo was still freezing, I doubt they would enable DI for it, if the basic engine is still bugged.

Most of my software are 1000 line max, and I wouldn't allow anyone to use it before I finish it.

Game demos are problematic.. Most of the functions are unfinished, and normally full of bugs.
And, many consumers may think that the final product will be similar..

Demos are unfinished by definition.. Its unfair to judge a game based on a demo

You guys think greninja will appear in future smash bros or is he a one time only deal?

Starters are set in stone for eternal popularity. They're right above legendaries in terms of fan recognition and adoration. They star in every new 'season' of pokemon anime, too, right?

The rankings, as I see them, are (not nec. in smash)
  1. Pikachu
  2. Original Starters
  3. Newest Starters
  4. Other starters (more recent > older)
  5. Lucario (for some reason)
  6. Mewtwo
  7. Strong Legendaries (ranked based on anime popularity)
  8. Cute Legendaries (mew, manaphy, jirachi, etc)
  9. Other Cute pokemon (jiggly, eevee, etc)
  10. 3-level Dragonoid (not nec dragon type, but the popular dragon-esque pokemon) pokemon (Dratini...dragonair...Dragonite, gible...gabite...Garchomp, etc)
  11. Cool looking pokemon (based on anime popularity)
  12. All the rest
  13. Stantler

I'd like to see some comparisons for Palutena's up smash. I remember Aether going pretty high for Ike, but it's probably not that high.

He's going in the next one but they're going to remove Lucario, then in the one after he's going to be removed and a new Pokemon will take his place

I still think Pikachu and Jigglypuff should be the Pokemon constants in every Smash game.

C'mon, what's wrong with Stantler?

Lucario got that movie hype. I think lots of people thought he was a legendary when he was revealed, too. Brawl appearance. Wasn't he somewhat important in Ranger? X/Y story importance.

Lastly, it's just a well-designed Pokemon.

Except that it has been wrong before.
He never mentioned Rosalina.
The first post said we'd get 6 newcomers at E3 2013. We got 3. Little Mac later in a Direct and the remaining 2 in this year's E3. People seem to like to ignore this fact, but it is there.
The second post said "Pokemon from X/Y", but that statement is so ambiguous and I don't believe that it was because of Greninja's development history - if he supposedly can pinpoint Chorus Men, why not Greninja?
Also, do we know for sure he said "Mii Fighter", as a single name, with a capitalized F? Because to me, it seems easy to mistake that with "We're gonna get a Mii fighter", since well, all the characters in this game are fighters. What if he was referring to it like "a fighter from a series"?

The remaining characters (Palutena, Chrom, Shulk) are pretty safe guesses, too, so even these characters being confirmed wouldn't mean to me that the rumor is legit.
He was never wrong once. All of this has been explained, which makes me think you're just not bothering to follow up on the leak. There's like 0% chance it's wrong.

He can pinpoint Chorus men and not Greninja because Chorus men had a name, and Greninja didn't. The information is from early in development, when characters weren't completely decided (Lucas), reveals weren't set in stone (original E3 reveals), and Greninja didn't have a name. Rosalina wasn't listed because the original list was just (originally planned) E3 reveals. The second list, which contained all the remaining characters, came after Rosalina's reveal.

Come on man, it's actually a sure thing now.

Lastly lastly he's focus tested to hell and generally considered one of the main mascots thanks to TPCi's constantly pushing the character in the greater franchise.

I don't have any issue with that, but we can call a spade a spade.

People who like stunfisk make me sad... Eh not really opinions and all.

I also seem to be in the minority by thinking gen 5 was one of the worst. Bad Pokemon, bad overworld, bad music, etc... And it's not like I wanted to hate it in fact I was so hyped for it but when it came out... Ugh

I liked some of the Pokemon designs, but not all (especially basically all of the legendaries). The region and story were also pretty bad and not fun. The few 5th gen pokemon that were cool are still kinda forgettable, because they had basically no focus in Gen 6.

That reminds me of just how much I love the gen 6 pokes. That generation had some of best designed pokes and some of my favorites (I <3 Goodra)

Eh people overestimate Mewtwo.

I sure hope so I hate to see an awesome design as greninja not reappearing in smash.

Nevermind that, name a Pokemon that is cooler than Mewtwo (in my opinion). You literally can't.

You can't ask people to name something that is better than the best in your own opinion.

That's like saying 'name a flavor of ice cream that is better than chocolate (in my opinion). You literally can't... because chocolate is my favorite flavor.'

:p

That takes me back. Heck weren't people saying he got lucky with Jill and Shuma as DLC characters?

:LOL That really take me back as well. I was disappointed when Lupinko disconfirmed Frank West so I somehow knew that he would be back in a form of DLC or next expansion but having a confirmation is pretty nice tho.

You can't really get lucky with Shuma itself.

14. Stunfisk... I hate the gen 5 designs but this one just takes the cake

Stunfisk is awesome, don't know what you're talking about
It's a very soo bad it's good pokemon

And gen 5 music is great. Atn least all the city music is great and all the plasma music is great and any desert/relic castle/ruins music is great

Exactly. ;)
Weedle at 151? Voters are terrible confirmed.
No idea why Capterpie is so high with Weedle down there. Gengar got robbed. Pretty solid ranking overall I think.

If Mewtwo's back, I wonder if his Project M design will at all influence his playing style. I don't doubt that Sakurai at least knows of the mod.

I was thinking..

Looks like we may get a lot more trophies this time. And they dont need to create the models, as they already have tons of models to use.

So, whats your opinion about trophies?

700+ trophies just for Pokes

I'm really excited to comb through the trophies looking for obvious omissions (which will probably be DLC).

Like no Dixie trophy = Dixie DLC on the way!

I preferred Melee's approach of including original models for the series' most popular characters as well as a bunch of miscellaneous/retro characters. It makes them seem more meaningful -- the "let's just rip models from existing games" approach strikes me as lazily superfluous. There was somehow more weight to Melee's trophies. I cared about unlocking them and reading their descriptions.

Name a legendary that has had more screen time or popularity than mewtwo.

Legendary? Probably not. Pokemon? Definitely. And even then I'd argue Arceus got more notoriety due to being seen as "Pokemon Jesus" or something.

First off, lol IGN and lolDorkly

Second, you just kinda proved my point. He was like, a star on the first movie and a closing (and more stupid - the more you think about it) special episode. So afterwards it was like... forgotten. Then it got a movie... which quickly was insignificant to what Charizard X and Lucario got.

Hell, Sinnoh got a trilogy!
