How do I know when I can play Project M online for sure? I did everything for Wiimmfi, and I'm in the lobby, and registered my friendcode to the database place. The instructions say something about a 24hr waiting period? Do I still have to wait even though I can connect?

Anyways, if I'm in the clear, would anyone like to play a few 1-on-1's? I wanna see how bad the game will lag and if it'll have been worth the trouble. Lol

My friendcode is: 3871-4707-6937

I'm using my Wii U and Wi-Fi if it makes any difference.
If you can connect, then everything works.

It doesn't make a difference whether you're using a Wii or a Wii U.

Marvel Vs. Capcom 3
Street Fighter 4/Super Street Fighter 4
Mario Kart 8
Playstation All Stars
Naruto Fighting games
Jump Vs
Namco's Tales
Hyrule Warriors
Final Fantasy and Kingdom Heart

It's funny how much info on Hyrule Warriors their giving out. We here about new characters constantly and it's pretty cool.

They also want to sell 1 million copies so this is the way to do it.

Sounds like you're all good! I'm on a Wii U as well and it makes no difference.

I can't play now, but I get on pretty frequently. Here's most of this thread's friend codes if you need to add people. Let me know if you want me to throw your name on the document.

Eh not sure about dlc. Unless all dlc characters are in the roster next time, I dunno

If veterans are going to be cut between versions (which is likely to happen as the demand for more newcomers increases in each version), I don't really see much of an issue with DLC to keep interest rolling. Resources sadly aren't infinite, so at some point we're going to have to start seeing cuts to accommodate such a huge roster and still have new characters.

Some of those DLC characters would probably end up being part of the regular cast in the future, alternating with some of the veterans (who could then end getting a shot as DLC), and that'd be fine with me.

I'll probably purchase every and any DLC characters Nintendo publishes. My only hope is they are added to the main roster and I don't have to go to a second screen to select them. Pipe dream, but that's my hope.

While we're on the subject of DLC who do you find uneccesary to the Smash Roster?

In Brawl? Honestly no one. Maybe Toon Link, somewhat. I just think he shouldn't be as much of a clone of Link. Make his items based more on WW/PH/ST. But overall, no one.
I guess maybe Zero Suit Samus too, except Metroid really deserve a second rep. I just don't know of anyone who really enjoys her playstyle.

2) UMvC3 supposed to have another 12 characters, but Capcom heads didn't want the game to conflict with SFxT's sales. What we got as a result was the early announcement of an expansion that burned a lot of people. Really unfortunate situation.

In hindsight this is both funny and frustrating. They rushed UMvC3 out so it wouldn't eat into SFxT's sales but Marvel was the much more popular game. Did we ever hear about who the 12 characters were?

The advertising for that was abysmal.

It had advertising to begin with?

  • Luigi, clone of Mario.
  • Rosalina, clone of Peach.
  • Megaman, clone of Samus.
  • Link, clone of Toon Link.

  • Pac Man, clone of Kirby
  • Little Mac, clone of Donkey Kong
  • Greninja, clone of Sheik

In what sense? When it comes to movesets and playstyle, they're all worthy of their spot in the roster, even if some could do with a bit of a tune-up. (Or a lot, if you're Ganondorf).

If we're talking in terms of characters...
The space animals minus Fox ought to go, imo. Having three characters basically representing the same idea is a little unnecessary.
I guess you could do away with Toon Link and merge elements of his visual and play styles into Link proper so the playable one is more of a conglomeration of the series instead of specifically representing one incarnation.
I don't personally see the point of having both Palutena and Pit as representation for Uprising, so I'd axe her if given the choice, or redesign Pit to draw more from the first two games. This one's more of a stretch since there might be some merit to customization heavy characters, but jury's out on that.
Lucas and Ness fit similar archetypes even if they play pretty differently. I don't want to cut Lucas, but I probably won't be weeping about the loss.

That's all I got, I guess.

That was very laggy, never had that kind of lag before. :/

Yeah I'm sorry. I had a feeling it would lag bad. Brawl was always the game that did that.

I've had no problems playing other games lag free. :/

I got 4g connection too (Clear) and it's in my room. :(

But those were good matches either way. I felt like the lag added a whole bunch of prediction things.

Is there someone on your end using the internet connection?
It could be because I'm using my laptop to keep in touch on here. We can try again, and I'll disconnect the laptop to see if it makes any difference.

Just make another room again. Test it out again. :)

You're using your phone's 4G connection? That wouldn't be stable to use for a fighting game online.
So..I don't think I can retrieve my FC for Brawl, which means I can't do PM online :(
You would have to use a new save file if you don't know your FC.
How does Project M online work?

I kinda wonder if Smash would have ever gotten as big as it did if it never became a crossover fighter.

It would have been lucky to get a sequel, and I couldn't see it ever extending beyond two games. The allure of the Nintendo crossover was really strong - regardless of the quality of the core game, the familiar faces from a wide breadth of genres created interest where there was none. For the inverse, see The Wonderful 101.
Though the latter was undoubtedly a better game for evolving beyond Project P-100.

So anyone want to play me? 5031-1119-1777

Edit: sorry about crashing the party there Daboss... I didn't realize you were playing someone new. I assumed it was just someone else that we know from Smashgaf
that lag tho

Rare modeled a bunch of trophies that had to be removed for some reason. Maybe Diddy was among the Rare-made trophies.

Oh wow, source? Not doubting it at all since I know some Rare elements were always involved (the Perfect Dark/Goldeneye mine) but I had never heard they helped make trophies, sounds awesome.

No I have one of these.

I'm also the only one who uses this. Sucks that I'm causing so much lag. Was really hoping this would have been very enjoyable for us all. :(

Project M works much better online if you're using Dolphin rather than the actual system, and it's less of a hassle to find people too.

I think it's absolutely pointless in a game like smash bros where every mechanic in the game is giving you a choice EXCEPT for L-cancelling. The skill comes from knowing HOW to use your fighter in the BEST way not who is better at timing button presses. Let's agree to disagree :)

Execution matters in fighting games and is part of the overall skill of a player.
Really hate that (Sirlin-inspired for the most part) trend that tries to dismiss it as inferior and "not the real game".

I'll play ya Anura. Just signed in. I hope that this temperamental setup doesn't give me too much trouble though. (Off TV and a good distance away via gamepad since family's using the TV)

Oh, OK. The 4G comment threw me off there lol.

I'm sure if someone lived closer to you it will have a better connection. I live in Toronto, Canada so that is a pretty long distance from San Antonio.

That is not an ideal set up lol. Good luck.

Yeah, probably. I'll look into seeing if there is another problem on my end, but then again Brawl was always the only game that gave me problems online.

As a big fan of Street Fighter and other traditional fighting games I see what you mean but there's a couple reasons I don't exactly like l-canceling either. For one the entire point of Smash is that the inputs are easy and anyone can play and have fun. Obviously that doesn't really apply to the competitive scene, but when you have a technique not explained in-game that ends up making such a difference in serious play, all that really does is raise the barrier of entry. Wavedashing and some other techniques I don't really mind so much because it really is more about mind-games and knowing when to use them, but there's really not a reason to ever not L-cancel your aerials. Adding an arbitrary button press to get rid of that lag isn't a wonderful display of execution skill or anything, it's just obnoxious and unnecessary.

I understand why people use it obviously but I don't really think it's a good mechanic. I wouldn't mind to see the directional air dodge and wavedashing return at all, but making me push a button every time I land doesn't really have anything to do with skill imo.

Yeah, probably. I'll look into seeing if there is another problem on my end, but then again Brawl was always the only game that gave me problems online.

Edit: I think this Yoshi stage is just unusually laggy. Having huge lag with azure in it too

No worries. Lag is inevitable sometimes
