That's not necessarily how it works either. I'm sure both games had their own separate budgets.

Well, Sakurai himself lends credence to the theory.

Sakurai did tell me that “multiple character” combatants like the Ice Climbers were proving a technical challenge on the 3DS.

While Sakurai didn't directly say the ice climbers, and a journalist threw out their name, he did say he was worried about the 3DS limitations making some characters difficult to implement. So OBVIOUSLY the conclusion comes to the most resource consuming character in the game which is the Ice Climbers. Don't try to play me.



Crappy is subjective. It's time for them to go because they are technically draining on the hardware. If Sakurai comes out and says that it wasn't due to the system that they are cut, then I'll take it back, but until then, I'll go with what he has said which is that some characters may be difficult to add into the game.

I guess by this assumption Pichu, Roy, Wolf, Lucas and Mewtwo are also too technically difficult for the 3DS to process which is why they're not in this game but Dr. Mario is.

I don't think I'm in the wrong using historically given Smash 64 came out in 1999. That's longer than some of the biggest IPs in gaming today.

This is complete speculation. You have no idea what would or would not have been included. Would it have been cool all that? Oh yeah, but it most certainly would not have happened.

And maybe I'm wrong but I could have sworn there was something with samurai stating that smash 4 at one point could have been only a 3ds title?

I'm upset that IC are gone too...but to be disappointed that a big Nintendo franchise made it to a nintendo handheld...and its only the fourth entry its not exactly breaking a tradition.

Believe me I am looking forward to the Wii U version more too but I am able to take the L if more people get to play the game essentially w/ the 3DS version.

They can have both, just do away with the roster parity rubbish.

What's selfish is wanting the version on the more powerful console to have the exact same roster as the weaker handheld.


It's not as if any of this discussion matters anyway, it's already happened.

Dude, you both have things you want that would cut something another person wants. Some people would rather be able to play Smash on the 3DS, some would rather be able to play as the Ice Climbers. No need to call someone selfish when your desire and his can't coexist, especially when you actually got what you wanted.

Am I the only one attempting to spoil who the characters are, but NOT spoil how to unlock them, so I can be surprised at the "WHOOP WHOOP" new character screen?

After finally seeing Bowser Jr. and Duck Hunt Dog somewhat in real action (not to mention Shulk and other newbies), this is by and far the greatest character selection we've ever had. So many fantastic additions. The cuts always hurt, but it's great anyways.
