For all the talk about who would be easier for Hillary to beat, I just worry about counting my chickens before they hatch. There's a long time before November, and with the massive amount of general dislike and distrust toward Hillary, the shit going down with her emails (which is nothing, but try convincing undecideds about that when they're being bombarded by Republican ads), and a generally ho hum electorate filled with disenfranchised Sanders supporters who have taken their ball and gone home.

It may not be hugely likely, but it's entirely possible that any given Republican could beat her.

Side note: They just played a Kasich ad here in Michigan where he pledges to freeze federal regulations. I can't help but wonder if that's wise in a state where the lack of competent oversight made poisoned water in Flint a national story.

The republicans are pretty disorganized/divided right now. It's usually very hard for a divided party to win a general election.

If you're worried about Cruz in the GE, How many moderates do you think would vote for Cruz after a debate about women's reproductive health and LGBT rights? The only debate topics in the GoP debates are... dick size and boogers? Nothing meaningful

Why is Maine going strong for Cruz?
Is there something about Maine I am unaware of?

Maine resident here.

Maine has one of the oldest populations in the country. Once you go more than 60 miles up into the state, it is pretty much 95% psychopaths.

Old psychopaths go out to vote.

Also worth noting that both of the times Paul LePage was elected governor, ~60% of the state did not vote for him. Maine almost always has an independent candidate as well and, in recent years, it basically guarantees that the old psychopaths get their way because the sensible vote is split.

We are pretty desperately trying to get LePage to resign because he is, of course, and old psychopath.

Cruz winning pretty much is the darkest timeline :(

In terms of what it means for the rest of the primaries, or if he gains momentum from here and becomes the nominee? if the latter then I have to disagree, Hillary will beat him handily. Hell if there's anyone that could make a majority of americans vote for a socialist over them, it would be ted cruz. If the dems had a better candidate (say 2008 obama) it would be a rout not seen since johnson vs goldwater.

The key thing today is that Rubio is doing horribly. The "Not Rubio" vote is more interesting to track than the "Not Trump" now. Even if we had a brokered convention, if Rubio was a miserable third and the party picked a very moderate candidate? You'd have 2 candidates worth of voters pissed off, instead of just one (Trump).

Rubio engaging in Trump's dick waving contest is probably what killed him.

The booger eater ended up looking like the only adult.

I'm curious what the mindset is of someone running as an independent in elections like that. You're more than likely making the party with similar views have split vote and thus let the less similar party win. I mean, the person running as an independent has to be aware of that, right? Or all they cares about is winning and not actually about what happens to the state.

Am I wrong for thinking the entire caucus system is dumb? Like I don't get why anybody would prefer it over a primary system. Can someone explain to me what I'm missing here?

Bernie in his speech.. finally going after Hillary - like really going after her over her wall street connections. After he has basically lost the nomination to her. Too late Bernie.

Caucuses are the way it has always been done. They're also cheaper to run, because most of it falls to the party to take care of things. They're completely stupid, and they should go away, but several states : cough Iowa cough : will never get rid of theirs.

I rather him go out fighting rather then giving her the win.

He's been going after her over the speeches for a few weeks now. I think he's targeting her in Michigan.

The problem with the speech line is that the only people who even remotely care about that are already supporting him. It's not a winning line of attack.

Plus, if the newest ARG poll is anything to go by, her lead has increased. NBC teased a new poll that had her up over 20 that they're going to release tomorrow.

He STILL hasn't produced any receipts for the accusation.

He should fuck off.

Maine used to be "different" and independent candidates had as much chance of winning as anyone else. Our successful three party system was the envy of the whole country. I won't pretend to know exactly what happened, I'm sure it was a combination of things, but this system started to fall apart. Now we accidentally elect unpopular monstrosities with literally nobody's interests at heart because 60% of the voters are splitting hairs over two virtually identical candidates and the remaining crazy people only have to show up and drool on a ballot.

Paul LePage is a case study in Trump politics and why it's crucial to be united against them.

Can somebody summarise all the results for tonight for me (I am in between work shifts and am struggling to find solid up todate results) :(

To the bolded, you cannot possibly know that; it's not a winning argument.

and by all indications, it's actually backfiring

the margin in ARG has widened by 11 to +24, has stayed approximately static in two other polls (actually +1 in both from their first polls of +27 and +19), NBC's going to have it at or above +20, and if PPP gets off their asses in the next ten days i'd expect it to widen there too from +10
