how will you know? And let me make this very clear: you call me a liar even ONCE more
I hope for a situation that both do well.DC should try to mobilize a campaign to see Superman instead of FFFS. Be WILD if it could take #1 next weekend.
Not gonna happen, probably, but it would be nice.

Naw, if it's true the marketing costs was 100M then it needs something closer to 700M to break even, and that's being generous in assuming theatres/cinemas take no more than half of the ticket sales worldwide. So, $250M+ more just to break even and Fantastic Four looming next weekend. Going to be interesting.
Definitely probably closer to $700M than $650M. Still, even giving them the lower $650M, I doubt they make it. Which also makes the comment from WB saying they'll be happy with $500M laughable. Just trying to save face because they've gone all in on the Gunnverse.Naw, if it's true the marketing costs was 100M then it needs something closer to 700M to break even, and that's being generous in assuming theatres/cinemas take no more than half of the ticket sales worldwide.

That sounds bizarre after the previous part flopped. Did they really expect 1 billion or more?Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning did $588 million and still loss like 300m, so they first need to be open about their expectations vs costs.

Which to me never made sense. The only other movie he made for them was The Suicide Squad, which flopped spectacularly. Yea, why not give him the keys to your franchise's future.![]()

They certainly sold Paramount or whoever in it. Crazy excess in those films but damn, parts of it was worth it.That sounds bizarre after the previous part flopped. Did they really expect 1 billion or more?

It's Tom Cruise, and after he basically saved Hollywood with Top Gun 2 during Covid, he had a free pass to do whatever he wanted. Unfortunately he's now used that up.That sounds bizarre after the previous part flopped. Did they really expect 1 billion or more?
Fantastic Four is pretty much way less popular than Super-man here. I doubt people even know much about it and even the ones who know doesn't care that much. Super-man on the other hand is more popular, though not the most interesting super-hero in my country. Batman and Spider-man are the top notch super-heroes that people mostly know.
DC is incredibly popular here thanks to it's famous cartoons like Justice League and Batman which aired on a free channel for years long.
I wouldn't call the John Williams melody forgettable. I liked the slow music that played during Clark and Lois scenes too.The soundtrack is abysmal and extremely forgettable.
James Gunn humor in a nutshell. It's expected now so it rarely lands.the comedy is very silly and jokes almost never land.
agreed, the music was the best part of the film (and even then, it was still way underplayed).I wouldn't call the John Williams melody forgettable. I liked the slow music that played during Clark and Lois scenes too.
I wonder how much came from IMAX and if they are gonna lose that to FFFS (is that in max?).

It sounds different but I'm pretty sure you hear parts of it often. It played for like 5 seconds...When it was about to hit and get into the epic part, it was over and cut off for a joke, so...yeah.
I mean in GOTG it was perfect, but even there, by the 3rd one the jokes became so so, for me.James Gunn humor in a nutshell. It's expected now so it rarely lands.

I don't understand why they needed this type of humor in a Superman movie, by the looks of it I guess this is what the majority wants.
Well, yeah, I mean, if we're being literal, the humor is dialed back, but it's the same style more like, MCU style maybe more exact.I wouldn't call the humor in Superman GOTG or typical James Gunn humor. I was lighter, more satisfying and fit the world you see in screen.
IMO, of course.

Probably why #supershit irks himIndeed, especially as Superman possesses barely any snark compared to Bloodsport and especially Star-Lord (the lead characters of Gunn's prior DC/Marvel films). I also like that he never curses, I wouldn't have considered it a huge issue if he had done some light cursing on occasion, but it does add to the character here IMHO.
"Krypto, what the hey, dude?!"
(after accidentally upsetting Mr. Terrific) "Darn it, I can be such a jerk sometimes."
The closest character in this film who would compare to some characters of Gunn's past work would be Guy Gardener, but that's just how Guy has always been. He's cocky, self-centered, and has practically no filter, but will do the right thing when things get really bad.
Are you honestly comparing a scientific fact to someone thinking Jar Jar is the best part of SW?
Brandon Routh liked it:

Yeah I thought it hit well. Also Corenswet is a great Superman. This was all overdue. We have tons of dark DC content. People can watch that if they insist.I wouldn't call the humor in Superman GOTG or typical James Gunn humor. I was lighter, more satisfying and fit the world you see in screen.

Superman, the nicest guy on Earth, chastising himself for being a jerk over a lightly teasing comment was great. He can't not be wholesome.Indeed, especially as Superman possesses barely any snark compared to Bloodsport and especially Star-Lord (the lead characters of Gunn's prior DC/Marvel films). "How is Lex controlling all this mayhem? How do we stop him!?!?!?!?"Watched it this weekend and it was... alright I guess. Casting seemed fine, decent humor while nothing great. Story felt a bit all over the place in an attempt to keep things moving constantly for those with short attention spans.
So Supes couldn't be in 2 places at once near the end... except he doesn't actually do anything at spot #2 he was really supposed to do that was the reason he didn't go to spot #1. Instead he just fights 2 metas?
It felt very comic book to me. That is clearly what they were going for versus the hardboiled "superpowers are freakish and weird" setting of the prior films."How is Lex controlling all this mayhem? How do we stop him!?!?!?!?"
"I dunno, maybe go check out that GIANT COMMAND CENTER hanging between those two MASSIVE SKYSCRAPERS?"
Really, at least have Lex in a volcano base or something, not towering over the very thing he is destroying![]()
Yeah, that was one of my major problems with it. Terrific made a big deal that Supes had to go to Metropolis but there was nothing there that demanded his presence. Just having a big fight scene seemed like a waste. Gunn falls into the trap of wanting a particular result without doing the work to back it up alot in the movie.Watched it this weekend and it was... alright I guess. You forgot something.Terrific made a big deal that Supes had to go to Metropolis but there was nothing there that demanded his presence.
I mean he didn't really do anything with that aside from saving the one lady from the building. I was expecting a giant sequence of him trying to keep Metropolis together or slowing down the rift somehow but nope just a fight scene. The whole thing was getting to luthor's computer which terrific didn't really need Superman for.You forgot something.

I understand the lack of scenes showing him saving more pedestrians rather than just implying it in that moment being a problem (as an extended cut would most likely show it), but I have some follow up questions for you:I mean he didn't really do anything with that aside from saving the one lady from the building. There is nothing in the movie that indicates Superman couldn't go to barovia while the justice gang goes to Metropolis. Terrific could go straight to Lex while hawk girl, metamorpho and Guy tangle with Ultraman and the engineer. Obviously, gunn wanted the moment of the justice gang having a change of heart which is fine but the movie just doesn't support it outside of terrific saying Superman needs to be in Metropolis just because. It's just lazy writing is all.I understand the lack of scenes showing him saving more pedestrians rather than just implying it in that moment being a problem (as an extended cut would most likely show it), but I have some follow up questions for you:
1) Who would then save pedestrians in the city?
2) How would Mr. Terrific handle Luthor's defenses, specifically Ultraman?
3) Where should Superman be instead?
