SUPERMAN RETURNS - IGN hands-on

Oh Jesus, if you're such a fan of a movie, links should not be hard for you to come by. I'm at work, and in thirty seconds I managed to pull up something. Google is not broken, dude.

Tobey Maguire said:
"First of all, this is a back condition I've had for three or four years, on and off. Sometimes it doesn't really bother me at all, while sometimes it bothers me a little or a lot. Coming off of Seabiscuit it was bugging me a lot, but not because of Seabiscuit. I saw the animatics and storyboards of the stunts I was to do on Spider-Man 2 and was a little concerned about it. I felt it was my responsibility to disclose my back discomfort to the studio, to the insurance company and to the filmmakers, which I did.

This is just one of the billion interview the cast and crew did during the Spidey 2 press junket, which you can find RIGHT HERE on Dark Horizons. If you want to go into this further, it'll have to wait until I get home.

Wilco, if it's not hearsay, can you provide links to sites where I can read said proof of what you are claiming? (i.e. Tobey hated doing the Spider-Man flicks and that he wasn't really injured while doing the Seabiscuit movie). I've never read that he hates doing them and I have read from multiple sources that he was indeed injured during Seabiscuit.

Also, if what you are claiming is true, then both Tobey and Sam are sort of lying when they were doing the commentary for Spider-Man 2.

I think I will still consider it hearsay based on the fact that it clearly meets the definition of the word for me. I can't find a place to verify your claims. What you have is speculation. While it may or may not be true, I doubt it would hold up as a fact.

The game takes the Spider-Man principle of giving the player an open world and creating a superhero that actually controls like he does on the big screen -- and makes sure to keep the Man of Steel's unique characteristics intact along the way.

The city looks to be the star of the game, with 80 square miles of Metropolis that you'll be able to move around, mini-games spread all over, and the freedom to fly anywhere you want. In a more literal way, the city takes on a personal meaning for the Superman character in the game. Because Superman can't exactly die from natural causes, the developers had to find a way to create a challenge for players, so you'll have to monitor the health of Metropolis and prevent enemies from destroying too much of the city. Also, you will have a stamina meter that you'll have to watch, so the game will present its own challenges, even if they aren't the traditional 'fall into a hole, lose a life' type.

Another point Tiburon is focusing on is making sure it doesn't feel like Superman is just completeing everyday tasks in his missions. He won't be capturing bank robbers like Spider-Man -- Superman's tasks will take on a more dramatic scale: saving troubled airplanes, rescuing people on broken bridges, etc.

I'm not sure I understand the first sentence. He wanted to be Super-Man in the next movie?

And he named his kid Kal-El? What a dope.

That's like me naming my kid Peter Parker. Stupid!

Funny enough, Nicholas Cage's wife's cousin used to work with me...

Don't be so hard on yourself.

I don't just believe everything someone says on an internet forum. Like I said, it may or may not be true, but without verification, it's hearsay.

Furthermore, it's not my responsibility to attempt to backup anyone's claims made. If they can't back them up, tough.

Superman's uniform is extremely homosexual. Yes I know there was a time when such a thing might be considere cool but seriously, he looks like a flamer running around in his underware and what the hell is the purpos of that red cape? Does his back get cold?

I would only expect some kind of mental case to ware such a thing.

It's fantasy. It's a comic book. :rolls eyes:

Now I've heard everything...STFU.

Not too different from the reason they didnt wear "yellow spandex" in the X-men movies as they joked about in the movie.

Um yea, about the videogame..

Since Superman is for the most part invincible the game will fail you at a mission because you let the city get destroyed, not yourself.

I hate these missions in games, they are my kryptonite. At first an invincible superman sounds perfect then they say that in the same breath. My emotions are torn.

The movie X-men costumes SUCK.
The comic/cartoon costumes would suck as well on real-life people.

It's just a matter of which sucks less. Looking at the possibilities of one and the execution of the other... other than a few (Magneto!), they made the right choice.

all they need now is a GL game.
Flash > GL.

i have to agree that the superman costume is uncool (dunno about "homosexual" though). it's pretty goofy. you can leave the cape though, but everything else is just laughable.

I still want to see the new movie though.

Oh, and your spelling is top notch Gek :lol

Alex Ross or Bruce Timms >>> Jim Lee :)
Right on. How's it feel to have taste? Lee's is good, but he's too GQ.

The Real Superman:

It'll never happen for many varying reasons, but wouldn't it be cool to have the different Supermen actors from over the years be playable unlockables in the game?

Isn't there supposed to be a movie on that actor's life that's coming out soon?

Then how would you have them make a Superman game? Kinda sucks that he won't stop bank robbers. Just standing there letting the bullets bounce back at the robbers would rock.

Flash > GL.

I am a flash fan as well but sir I completely disagree with you. GL is the best.

Hal Jordan is the shit yo.

Personal preference. I have a thing for super speed (mmmm super speed) so I always loved the Flash character. Also, Wally West is a smart-ass, which is a trait I share... :lol

Plus the talk about being able to run at 300 mph in this game doesn't help. :/ Make a Flash game dammit!

??? It sounded to me that he liked their interpretation of Supes powers. He just doesn't enjoy protect missions in general.

That'd be good but we've never seen speed used in a game rather than "bullet time". Just as long as Bart Allen has nothing to do with the game at all. Jay Garrick can though!

:lol Yeah I noticed that right after I posted but given the seriousness of the post I thought it to be funnier to just leave it. ;p

Which is why I'd really like to see movies of this game demonstrating Superman using his super speed. It'd at least give me hope that it's possible. No other gen other than the upcoming one would do it more justice thus far. ;)

Though I don't see why it wouldn't since as usual Flash'd either limit or not use anywhere near his max speed, collateral damage and all.

Burnout game (with nitro on) type visual speed as a max would be fine. Just put it on a city scale. Add in the ability to run up and on the side of buildings at said speed ala Spider-man 2, the ability to run on water and the usual Flash-type moves.. whirlwinds etc and I'm good to go!

Now if you really want to go at it "full speed" is when the slow motion/bullet time stuff would come into play since the world would appear to stand still from his pov anyway.

Oh, and keep Bart Allen out of all Flash related discussions kthx! ;)

. . .recent reports of Sam Raimi's behavior drastically changing for the worse.

Can you elaborate on this? I've heard much of Toby Maquire and his attitude towards the Spiderman films, but I haven't heard of Raimi's behavior on the set of Spiderman 3.

OMG yes. As a gay person, this is exactly what I wear every day and let me tell you... I wish I could be straight so I could wear normal clothes for one goddamn day.

...it was a tech demo.

And a bit fugly according to those who saw it. I would've liked to have seen it, but there was this big 'EA' logo on the door to the booth, and that to me, is like Kraptonite.

Bataman's Alex Ross older Superman ... man, I loved that book, and that scene (and the panels immediately leading up to Superman's return) was one of the best comics sections I've ever read. "Look!" "Up in the Sky!" .... "Faith Rewarded". nyuk nyuk. *

* Chris Reeve = Best Movie Superman.

The new issue of Game Informer has the SR exclusive with a cover and 10 page blowout including screenshots, renders, artwork and info from the 360 version.

Doesn't look too bad.

What system is this supposed to be made on. Looks like next gen to me.

The screens in the issue are from the 360 version but the game will also be released on all current gen systems: PS2, Xbox and Gamecube. No PS3 version...yet.
