Survivor 26: Caramoan |OT| Fans (Recruits) vs. Favorites (Crazy People)

Letting people like Shamar and Brandon on Survivor must be pushing the limit of what is safe, both seem like such headcases I don't know how they pass the tests. Shamar's moment of self pity in the shelter with the women was such a mess, people rolling their eyes as he found heroism in it somehow.

Well that episode was pretty crap :-/

I was excited for a second at the possibility of Shamar quitting/asking to be voted out, but of course it was too good to be true :'( I can't stand him. I mean the laziness alone would be enough to piss me off out there, but it's the fact that he refuses to accept that he's done anything wrong, and flat out lies about what he does that would drive me crazy. Please let him get voted out ASAP. Please :'(

On the other end of the spectrum, Sherri continues to be a delight. The way she keeps calm and manages to reign in Shamar is very reminiscent of Boston Rob and Philip's relationship. She had a bit of a quieter episode but there's nothing wrong with that - she's keeping herself out of trouble and that's all she needs to do at this stage. She definitely still seems like the Queen of the tribe.

Reynold really disappointed me in this episode. I understand that he felt betrayed after Allie was voted out, but having an Ozzy-esque whinge and drawing the lines in the sand as soon as you get back from tribal isn't going to help matters. "The game is on", he says. How is that going to help? He seems like a fairly rational guy but in terms of the game he has no idea what he's doing. Open your eyes man, the cool kids alliance is a sinking ship, and you need to look for greener pastures. Saying 'the game is on' is only going to make that harder for you.

Laura made a big mistake as well, by promising Reynold she'd vote with him and then betraying him straight away...just fuck over your chances of working with him again in the future, why don't you? I do like Laura, though. She's not afraid to mix things up if she feels threatened.

The rest of the fans didn't have much to say. Julia actually spoke which was nice I guess, but I actually got a huge Carter 2.0 vibe from her - she was so expressionless. Michael, Matt and Eddie had reasonably quiet episodes.

Not much seems to be happening over at the Favourites camp. I think Andrea is slowly digging herself a hole by playing too hard too fast. Props to her for noticing that Corinne and Malcolm were getting close, but you can't keep targeting members of your alliance like this. She needs to learn to sit on information a bit more, or it's going to bit her in the ass.

Philip is hilarious. I love him this season, and I have no idea why. Maybe it's just because we're seeing less of him? He's still a joke of a player, but the things he comes out with are absolute gold. Cochran is also continuing to be funny. Brenda, Erik and Dawn were invisible this episode.

This season has been really average so far. I'm starting to worry that the reason Probst has been shouting from the rooftops that it's such a great season is because it has interesting Tribal Councils. I'm not going to dispute that, but good Tribals alone does not a good season make. On top of that, while tonight's episode was 'holy shit - three way split', as soon as it actually happened it was obvious Hope was going home, since the only possibility of Shamar going was if he went on the first vote. Laura was never going to vote for Shamar on the second vote - the only reason she even considered booting him in the first place was because she was paranoid he was up to something. Somebody must have reassured Laura that she was safe and didn't need to flip.

When the brown haired chick showed up last night to tell the others that Shamar had spilled the beans on their plan my wife and I both looked at each other and said 'Who the hell is that.'

I can't recall ever seeing her before. Weird.

I'm a bit disappointed at the lack of airtime for my buddy Matt. I'm hoping this means he goes pretty far in the game. If he makes it to the merge and beyond that would be really cool. CBS has him on complete lock down so I haven't gotten any info at all from him.

Yeah, this season is pretty so-so...................so far. The first Fans vs. Favorites was like that as well. And we all know how that one turned out.

could you post the link to that interview?

Sorry, I misremembered exactly what Probst said. From EW.com:

EW: Shamar was practically bragging about how he was just going to stay in the shade for 40 days while everyone else worked. I bring this up because in the early days of Survivor you guys took some hits from people who said you cast too many African-American males who were portrayed as the stereotype of being lazy. So when Shamar gets into an argument about his work ethic and two people call him lazy -- on one hand that gives you good island drama to play off of, but did it also make you feel a bit uncomfortable since you have been down this road before with some other contestants?
PROBST: Not at all. Shamar was put on the show for exactly the opposite reason — he is an American hero. He fought for our country, he protested down on Wall Street. We had absolutely no idea he was going to react in such a manner. I honestly thought he would be one of the audience favorites out of the gate. It just proves once again that you really cannot predict with any kind of certainty how someone will react in the game until.. they are actually in the game.

I know I'm in the minority, but I don't mind him yet...I'm a little uncomfortable with how he's being portrayed as the angry/lazy black guy, but at the same time, it doesn't seem like it's an unfair edit. In any case, I'm getting a definite Boston Rob/Philip vibe from him and Sherri too...it's hard to say if Shamar has the same self-awareness that Philip had the first time around, but I think Sherri understands that if they can go into a merge on equal footing, he's her ticket to winning.

It turned out fantastic, but I disagree that it's start was anything like this. It was slow, sure - but it was definitely edited more...evenly. This season has been absolutely ridiculous in terms of editing. On the favourites side, Erik and Brenda have barely uttered a word. On the fans side, Allie got next to nothing, and Hope didn't say a word until about thirty minutes into her boot episode.

Shamar has pretty much made me root for Reynolds and cool kids alliance at this point, he's insufferable. I dunno, him trying to play up the PTSD for sympathy is coming off very phony and contrived, if he really is suffering from PTSD he has my sympathy, but right now fuck him.

So far i'm cheering really hard for Favorites team.

Shamar is the worst. I hate how he thinks he is always picked on and everyone is ganging up on him and he is the one telling the truth and EVERYONE else is lying and trying to throw him under the bus. Its going to be the same thing next episode. Everyone is going to say "we should have voted off Shamar."
PS I love Cochran. He comments are funny and I'd be thinking the same thing. Hot girls wearing their under ware around on a beach....uh sign me up!!!

I don't understand how anyone could say that Kim didn't play a brilliant game that season. You have to play the hand you're dealt, and she handled hers perfectly. Based on how she played, I'm pretty sure she'd have played just as well against much smarter and more competent people, too.
Its like saying that Michael Jordan played a brilliant game if he destroys a bunch of third graders. That season was probably the worst survivor season in terms of actual gameplay. I would love to see her come back and battle with a little tougher group. She might dominate again, but its hard to really tell because she didn't have to do much of anything in her season.

I think sherri is one of the best players to play in a long time.

We've seen this in the last few seasons. That tribe is making a competent player look like a genius, especially the transparent flaunting of the dumb kids alliance right out of the gate. One of the worst moves I've seen. I know a lot of the contestants don't watch the show, but c'mon.

Redemption Island

It's hard to say. Redemption Island was filled with a bunch of followers who didn't want to make any big moves. One World was filled with a bunch of idiots who made really stupid moves. I think One World was infinitely more entertaining than Redemption Island, just because the side characters were actually engaging and entertaining as opposed to all the lifeless blobs (sans Philip) on RI.

lol

Sherri is by far the best player 'Fan' team. She needs more airtime

I'd rather see stupid moves then no moves

I didn't mean to read the spoiler, but I did and...wow.
That has to be Brandon, right? All the talk of peeing in the rice and burning stuff to the ground has to be foreshadowing.

I recently realized Shamar is the only minority on his team. That's fucking bullshit.

Shamar is the first person I have seen on survivor that so crazy and unhinged that whenever he is going on full meltdown nobody tries to argue with him or amp him up. I love how unnerved he makes everyone.

Tonight's episode spoiler!

faves lose immunity and seems corrine is going. Newbies lose reward and Shamar is medivaced after the reward challenge but before immunity challenge. Thats the word on the streets.

Also, anybody else find it strange that the early seasons of survivor rarely had medivacs and if they did, they wouldn't have tribal that night.

But now, seasons have so many more cast members to begin with and there is a medivac almost every season and they still do tribal the same episode. And if for some reason, nobody gets hurt, then they just do 2 tribals in one episode.

Eh, I think "there is a medivac almost every season" is overstating it. There were two in One World and two in Samoa, but besides those seasons there were six others (I think) spread out among the remaining 24 seasons.

I think the much more annoying problem is the one Osten started on Pearl Islands: quitters. There haven't been very many, but that it's seen as an acceptable way to leave by anyone is frustrating beyond belief.

lol, so dumb. These guys don't seem to realize that arguing with the main alliance isn't going to help. Eric, or whatever his name is, should dump Reynolds.

Eddie digging his own grave by sticking with the guy with a hidden idol. Smart guy.

Also doubly smart for saying that the tribe will lose without them when they've lost two with them.

Casting again casts some of the dumbest people in existence.
