Yeah but the price was probably a bigger issue, hence the price drop from $249 to $169 within the first 6 months. If they launched at $169 they very likely sell alot more units even with the lackluster launch lineup. Stuff like 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 came out in holiday 2011 but they didn't bother waiting to see if those titles would bolster sales of the system at $249. I also think by this point the Wii was losing steam which might have also led to the quick price-drop.

I remember, and I don't recall the specifics of the promotion, getting the red 3Ds holiday 2011 from Bestbuy with Mario Kart 7/3D land/Zelda OOT for $200.

Price was a factor, but it does not matter what price you go for if huge ammounts of the DS and Wii customers had simply moved onto there things.

while Switch 2 was shown with a successor to the best-selling game on Switch and no other BS on display, just a Switch 2 switching around. A winning combination, I must say.

Yes, but I only said price was a bigger factor for the poor launch compared to game selection ( which the person I replied to spoke of). I wasn't making the case that the system wasn't chiefly affected by the state of the market at that time( notably that both 3DS and Vita came out when mobile gaming was taking off, and made the concept of dedicated portable gaming devices feel antiquated). I'm glad the market got off that line of thinking and we're now in a handheld renaissance.

I think the price will be a tough sell for some people when you have more powerful consoles on the market for the same amount. If they improve the quality control I'll buy early, but if not I'm waiting.
