I got emails from Ninty on my sons' accounts and for a second I was super hyped, then I saw it was just advertising recommended games based on what they play the most. Lame!

Ended up being four emails. The two mentioned above, one offering me a Super Mario Wonder themed wallpaper and then another asking me to vote on which ability I liked the best in Tears of the Kingdom.
Zero mention of Switch 2, the one thing I care about.

I've slowly come to the realization that MK World is the only new game launching with the console. How in the hell do they not have DK ready for launch? Guessing it's for financial reasons (different quarter) but still. Does Metroid even have a release date yet? At this point, I'm sure it will be their big release for the Holidays.

I think Nintendo views Bananza as essentially a new IP. Lets face it, outside of the DK character and some other references it bares little resemblance to the other DK games.
They purposely prioritized it over 3D Mario for the launch window and they put it a month out from launch when some will have already had their fill of Mario Kart and/or whatever third party title they went with. People will also be checking out the GC classics and Switch 2 upgrades during the first month.
I think they know they have something good and don't want it to get lost in the shuffle of the launch frenzy.

The funny thing for me is that I'm literally buying a Switch 2 to play Zelda x3 (BOTW/TOTK/WW) and I don't really have any plans to buy any other launch titles.
I do love Yakuza 0 so maybe?

Still waiting for email from Nintendo, but not expecting one soon. But never say never.
The good thing about there not being a launch day exclusive like BotW is there's really no rush for a day one purchase, as there's nothing I "have to have" on day one like there was with Switch. I'm fine waiting til I just find one while I'm out and about, in July or August.
I'm most excited for GameCube Classics and Fast Fusion and BotW S2E, if that says anything about the launch lineup for this thing.
Agreed there is nothing you need to be there for on day 1. Bananza looks good but I can wait on it. Gamecube Classics are good enough to sustain. Honestly the main reason to get it day 1 is due to tariff uncertainty and potentially increasing prices.
Nintendo has been making a conscious effort to promote third party games around launch. Instead of saturating the system with a ton of their new games, they're giving their partners time in the limelight. MKW is a mass appeal system seller, Gamecube Classics is enough for the nostalgic, the third party launch lineup is incredible for Switch-only gamers. It will carry them to the holiday season, easily. Indies will fill in the gaps.
This is not new for Nintendo, they have learned to space out their releases, rely on the total platform library and their evergreen titles, and control the marketing message to get players to play what they want them to play.

Mario Kart is by far the best selling Nintendo game that is internally developed. Mario Kart 8 alone dwarfs the sales of all other Switch games.
Even on 3DS it outsold mainline Pokémon. That is why Nintendo sees it as being able to carry the launch.

I'm definitely excited for a new MK, but just not really interested in remasters & ports of games I've already played. Still picking it up at launch but was honest just thinking about what games I was going to pick with it and realized it would just be MK.

Nope.. I have had a switch online account since 2018... And bought 100s of games for switch (digital and physical) it's my most played system. I don't get how they are choosing.

How risky is that? I don't want to pirate but play ps1, and older games. Is it better to get another switch and keep that one for emulation? Last one I used cfw was psp and ipod touch. I didn't hack my vita for fear of getting nabbed and loosing my account (worth too much).

It's not risky whatsoever if you just leave it off the Internet, this just got kicked up in the new thread about Nintendo warning that Switches caught doing unauthorized stuff could get bricked. Minimally, if you are caught, your Nintendo account could be banned, bricking is often due to technical conflict from an update or the like. It's not known whether Nintendo means they would brick it on purpose, point is, why even go there, leave it off your wifi. In order to run newer games, you would need to wait for new CFW, usually out a short time after the official update.
Some people like to use a loader to switch between CFW and stock, where there may even be their Nintendo account, to do it all with one Switch. I don't feel like it's clean, and I'm afraid I'll make a mistake, so I prefer to just use two Switch. I just noticed someone on this board did exactly what I was afraid of, go online with his Switch after months without thinking, going online and getting banned. Get a cheap Switch....

I don't even play on the switch and have zero interest in this overpriced toy. Still I got an email telling me I could buy one so I got the Mario kart bundle. Look forward to flipping this on launch day.

There's guaranteed to be another Direct shortly after launch, probably before Donkey Kong, that gives us some fall / winter release dates for Metroid, Pokemon, and Hyrule Warriors and teases something out for 2026 (my money on Animal Crossing)

Don't quote me on this, but I thought I read somewhere (reddit maybe?) that Costco is going to have stock in store on release day.
My pre-order is secured from Best Buy but my wife wants her own console so if we don't get a Nintendo email I was thinking that Costco on release day may be an option. Show up fairly early and wait so you can be one of the first people through the door.

Yeah I saw it being shared around that Costco has a SKU that they'll allegedly have in stock at launch. Bundled with Mario Kart World + 12 months of the NSO expansion pack for $500.
This is my back up plan if I don't end up with a pre-order

There are three Costcos near me that I shop at on a semi-regular basis. The one closest to me is also probably the least busy of the three so that's the one I'll probably go to on launch day if needed.
Depending on how motivated I'm feeling, I may hit the store up a few days before the 5th and see if an employee is willing to tell me how many they will have in-store at launch.

I'm hoping this is a sarcastic post. 1, no one should be using a debit card for day to day transactions. 2, Apple Pay, is a payment service / not a credit or debit card.

Some still use their PIN, but most go contactless, or use an app from their bank on their phone or via their smartwatch.
