Switch 2 sells 3.5 million in 4 days

It dosnt matter, i m talking tech wise, not consumer perception and tech wise they are one gen behind, DLSS ll help for sure, but isnt a fix for everything.
How does consumer perception not matter if the consumer perceives the games as good looking or "good enough" looking? You said it's bad for gamers and to an extent I would agree (RT performance will be an absolute joke) but this is more of a developer issue. Most Nintendo gamers won't really care.

Yet still sold around the same as the PS4 in it's first year. People were just buying off the scalpers as there was no other choice. Now the console has been available for ages now and there was no massive surge in sales.
The PS4: 2 price cuts in all regions after launch, one in October 2015 and the other in September 2016.

The PS5: received 3 price increases in Japan, 2 in Europe and other regions like Australia. One in the US.

Yeah, I wonder why there are no surges in sales.

Yet, it stills tracking similar to the PS4.

they had one of their best year ever with 21 million units sales the moment shortage ended, there was a massive suge in sale. The PS4 never managed to go this high, even with the PS4 Pro + 299 Slim

Yes there was. The console was having like 400% sales increases in some months when compared to the previous year. What are you even talking about lmao

I know, thats why i said that Nintendo fans wont care and i was talking tech wise.

So we can expect a good support from third party devs on switch 2. Right?
That will be the question when it comes to third party. Will it able to run graphical powerhouse and resource hungry games like for example GTA6 or RE9 without to much compromise? And another challenge for switch 2 to have longer legs is are we going too see constant supply of new Nintendo well loved exclusives like new Zelda, new Mario, new Metroid, new Earthbound, not just remasters or port from Switch 1? Because to be honest, Nintendo fans and new adoptors wants Nintendo exclusives that is why they buy it.

Seems they went in to this extremely well prepared.

It will be very interesting to see if they can ride this wave or if it'll hit a wall after the initial hype.

This explosion of sales kind of reminds me of TotK that sold 10M in 3 days, and then slowed down quite dramatically relative to BotW.
I saw the numbers were shipped, not sold through, but very impressive still. Obviously there's demand.

Yes, that's the question. Can they keep this up and continue to sell or will it slow down. I take for granted they have a new Mario game and some other stuff yet to announce this year which would probably do the trick.

imagine being asked to make a massive dinner for a family of twenty and only having enough food to cook for 5

thats what making anything was like during the pandemic....from electronics, to car parts, to simple supplies.

why do yall act like we didnt have to deal with shortages of everything for two years straight?

The pandemic really screwed the whole video game industry. The PS5 launch for sure (even if it was great, considering) but also all game development really struggled for years.

Still is, perhaps.

PS5 also released during a pandemic and chip shortage
The pandemic impacted PS5 sales later but not launch https://www.gamesindustry.biz/sony-doesnt-see-pandemic-affecting-ps5-launch

There was plenty of PS5 launch supply, even surpassing Switch 2 in UK https://www.thegamebusiness.com/p/switch-2-is-nintendos-biggest-uk

And people drop $500 to play a game? Well, I guess $500 doesn't mean much for a lot of people. Good for them.

Besides that, don't act like consumerism is the same like a decade ago.
You guys (and many others) should review the PS4 launch lineup and tell me what people were trampling each other in stores to play on day one. Resogun? Angry Birds Star Wars? Every other launch game which was also available on PS3?

Even for PS2, everyone would be a bit hard-pressed to mention even one single game that you absolutely had to play on launch day. I mean, the three GameCube games currently playable on Switch 2 are worth more than several systems' launch lineups.

Considering this, Mario Kart World is hardly a bad proposition, methinks.

The power of having exclusives, without even porting to pc, is really demonstrated with this sales number, by Nintendo. Take note Sony.
We getting more rumor for Sony to make portable, if that so, the trend of all platform going handheld, this will make more interesting era like way back before, where Nintendo is not the only one who makes handheld. It will be interesting soon

but sony also stated this though...

So years later them stating they fixed a supply chain issue merely confirms an issue existed during 2020.....

So the comment made prior to the launch might merely be a PR statement to get people to still buy and look out for a PS5, their comment years later confirms an issue indeed existed though.

So...my point is merely that no one was having it easy during 2020 regarding launching a new system or games or anything during that year

I'm not even sure why that is a debate suddenly

Yep. People are tripping if they think this launch is lighter than normal. It's standard for a console.

Why are you so triggered about a Nintendo console selling so well at launch?. The PS5 is tracking with the the PS4 which will still be pretty decent. Why you needed to bring this up on this thread is a mystery however.

? Tiago's exact comment states nothing about Nintendo Switch 2 though, they are merely pointing out that a surge actually did exist with PS5 post launch....

So..I'm sorry man, some of you are seeing those comments and getting defensive and the point is merely that any stats from 2020 must account for a pandemic happening and a chip shortage, as I would say this even when PS6 launches, that any comparison to PS5's launch must take that into context.

The comments being made are not against Switch 2, its merely providing context and transparency regarding the launches some of you are trying to compare to Switch 2.

edit and we are talking about this because the thread literally compares it to PS4 and PS5's launch without provided context on PS5's actual launch

Fucking hell

Some peoples insist on having posts that age like milk for switch 1 2017 nostalgia or something?

So what happened with GameCube… WiiU..

At least we have a place to insert physical media and a stand (dock) without having to pay extra unlike a premium product called « Pro » level of shit eating 🤷‍♂️

I meant stall as in significantly slow down in sales after the diehards buy theirs. I still think it'll sell 80 million or so. Not as much as Switch 1.

Nintendo: Releases a wildly successful console during a period where tariffs are blasting all countries and prices are the highest they've been in decades.

Sony: 'We were held back by market conditions.'

Damn bro. Thing is still sold out everywhere.

I've had mine for a couple days now. It's a very good machine. Definite upgrade. By the end of the year it will have plenty of games.

The amount of salty comments here and on twitter about this, is more epic than i expected 😂😂😂 HF. People trying to explain why the PS5 doesn't have the record is amazing 🤣
? huh? I don't see anyone arguing PS5 should have that record... merely folks providing context about those figures lol

I think some of you want someone to make that argument.

The perfect excuse whenever something sold better than PS5.

What? I didn't even mention the Switch 2. I was correcting your fake info regarding the PS5, that's all. That's unrelated to the Switch 2 sales.

So, Nintendo stays the No1 console manufacturer?
Do I read this right?
Switch to be soon the most sold console ever and the Switch 2 sells like crazy.

But it's still tracking alongside the PS4. So not sure what you're trying to say.

PS5 Fanboys are fragile behind their "Sony is the market leader" mask.
? ...but a surge still happened post launch for PS5 after their chip shortage was fixed. His point is that a surge in sales did happen post launch..

and I don't get this weird childish name calling, no one argued Sony was market leader here, no one stated PS5 will sell or should sell better then Switch 2 or anything even like this.

You are merely reacting to all the comments about the context of that figure as this hostile defensive thing to fight over.

So I want to be very clear, we are merely providing context regarding PS5 and Series X launches during 2020.

You can come back here in the future during PS6 launch and we'll do just the same to take into consideration. That isn't trying to downplay or argue against PS6, that is merely telling you the details and context regarding the PS5's launch to make any comparison make sense.

Funny the PS5 didn't sell even more units. Given the unprecedented demand for in-home entertainment during that period, it seemed perfectly positioned. Yet despite the global tariff disputes and its perceived high price, the Switch 2 is shattering sales records.

Lol what? Sony can say whatever they wanted before launch. Reality was the console was sold out immediatly at launch and supply was drip fed up until the end of 2022

but sony also stated this though...

PS5 launch wasn't supply constrained. It was one of the biggest ever.

Not as massive as the first Gen 10 console however!
