Switch 2 won’t have achievements, Nintendo has confirmed

Achievements drive the player a certain direction. Nintendo does not want to do that., or Miyamoto doesn't.
If someone doesn't want to do them it's the easiest thing to ignore, I don't think they drive anyone a certain direction. It's just Nintendo being obtuse imo

Because they're not as exciting and novel as they used to be - they barely rise to the level of background noise at this point - and Nintendo has clearly indicated that they don't care. Basically what I just said.

It's become a staple to Playstation, Xbox and steam... It's not like something that was introduced and is now out of style, it's a way of gaming that a huge audience enjoys

Good. I don't think Nintendo would rush put an option to silence notifications, I have them all silenced and not showing on Steam
Didn't know I could disable them all these years on steam lol. Never cared for their useless feature so whenever they pop out I just ignore it and keep playing the game in whatever way I want and never bothered to check on them.

Personally, I've always felt like it gave devs/publishers an easy substitute for unlockable content or something actually fun to reward players for accomplishing things. And I've always just turned the notifications off, as I find them more distracting than anything.

Yeah makes way more sense for the game to actually be fun and have actual stuff in it like RE games, Ratchet and clank games, other games both AAA or indie where you actually unlock something in game.

I also get its harmless even if it's included since we can easily ignore like what many people are already doing whenever they pop up in the little corner on steam but since it's completely useless to me, same as speedrunning so I also have absolutely no issue if it's removed either. As there's way more important things to worry about like having the game actually be fun, Switch only having 256gb for a 2025 console, the shift to 80 dollars, hoping more good games will come for it later etc etc plenty of actually meaningful and important things to worry about instead of these features.

Your memories of the playing experience should be enough. Nobody cares about your "achievements".
Ah yes, thank you, internet stranger, for declaring what should be enough for everyone.

Clearly, you've been appointed Supreme Authority on Personal Enjoyment.

Must be exhausting carrying all that self importance. Just because you don't care about achievements doesn't mean the rest of us need to adopt your half baked standards. Some of us like seeing tangible proof of the hours we put in, sorry if that threatens your 'pure' gaming philosophy or whatever you think you're preaching. Maybe next time, keep the unsolicited superiority complex to yourself

I think some of you guys need give up this idea of just because Sony and Microsoft is doing it Nintendo needs to do the same......They don't.

They are successful because they are not exact copy of Playstation or Xbox.....if you are that desperate for achievements or trophies then just play games on those systems.

I can see why people want achievements but it's not something I care for, so no big deal for me that it isn't there.

Lame. No reason to not include them. People who don't care about them can simply ignore them. Ah well.
In a culture of Gaming where beating Souls boss is considered gaming cred, everything can be devolved into a measure of e-peen size.
Nintendo atleast is sticking to their created atmosphere.

I think it's funny when people like you want to just flat out stifle conversation just because you personally don't have interest. Me wishing Nintendo had a form of trophies doesn't make your trophyless experience on Nintendo any different you realize that right?

It's only my opinion. If you think differently that's totally fine as well. Superiority has nothing to do with it.

I think achievements are made to hook people.

Oh, so now it's just your opinion, after telling people their own experiences 'should be enough'? Got it. Funny how that works.

And yeah, achievements are designed to hook people... just like storylines, combat systems, and literally every other part of a game that keeps us engaged. That doesn't make them bad or meaningless

Some of us enjoy the added goals. You can roll your eyes at them all you want, but don't pretend your detached take is any more enlightened than someone else's fun

I personally don't care if they include trophies or they don't but people claiming they HAVE TO include trophies and I would say no they don't have to and clearly don't want to.

I think that's what gets me is how people act so angry towards them as if games force you to do them lol it's just wild when I see people have such an angry stance against them, but to me that's grade A selfishness, because even tho it doesn't affect them they don't even want to see someone else simply enjoy an element to gaming that they don't

I don't think anyone is saying they "have" to, we're just saying it would be nice since all other forms of gaming have them.. I don't think that's a reach

I sincerely hope you enjoy them. Just sharing my opinion. I think lots of people are hooked to them, but not in the right way or by choice. They are triggered by their OCD. If they never existed they could've just played the game instead.

In the end it's user choice so I hope you enjoy the ride mate.

Thats my point, you guys assuming just because Sony and Microsoft is doing it Nintendo should do it.....they dont.

I thought I read somewhere that it has the equivalent called "Medals" but I guess that was just bullshit.

All I care about is playing a good game.

This sucks man. One of the reasons I hardly play my switch is because of no trophies. I was really hoping Nintendo would get with the times with the switch 2.

If I have the choice of playing the same game on switch or ps5, I'll play the ps5 version purely because of trophies and the growth of my profile. Unlocking trophies is fun, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

They could've done something Nintendo flavored too, like have mushrooms, flowers, 1-ups, and then stars for 100%

It's so easy it's right there. Frustrating

I didn't care about getting a message rewarding me for rolling 10 times against a wall, I still don't care today...

I personally think achievements add value to your product. People who don't care for them just ignore them.
This is objectively correct. They add value to the game. Now the value they provide is subjective and up to the user. Some people will grind and go for 100% in everything, some will completely ignore. But they are in no way bad. Just free easy value and a way to track what you have done throughout the years.

The people saying this is a good decision, how clueless can you be? I don't even care about achievements that much, but it's almost like you can ignore them.

I just think that's a wild take man like games in all their forms are built to hook people in any form they can. Maybe people just like them?

I just "played" the game my whole life but enjoy seeing and looking back at my travels when trophies came along, there's nothing more to it other than some people care and some don't, it' adds to gaming for many people.

Torn on this. Like deep down inside these trophies/chievments are completely waste of time and actively can change the way someone might enjoy a game...

But man, my simple monkey brain be like ooooh platinum! I wish they did add them to switch

It would be funny to add it this long after everyone else had it, I almost respect it because Nintendo is sticking to their vision.

even tho I don't care, this is a bad move.
I think a lot of people care about achievements and they are also a way to keep users engaged with your ecosystem

I still do not understand, why those "achievements" exist on other consoles.

People like it. It's personally changed the way I play games and I never thought it would. I remember when I first heard about achievements I thought it was stupid. Then I got a 360 and I fell in love with them. Then when I went to PS4 I enjoyed them even more and eventually started replaying games to try and get the plat when it wasn't to crazy.

Basically I spend more time playing games just to get the plat so that's why they exist. They create more engagement and another level of fun. It's like a game within the game.

I was really bothered by my switch not having them.
