Switch 2 won’t have achievements, Nintendo has confirmed

I personally think achievements add value to your product. People who don't care for them just ignore them.
They do and i feel they are needed in this day and age for every gaming platform. If i have 400 games on steam 500 on ps and 80 on nintendo an easy way to know what games i beat or dropped and need to come back to is the trophy list. Not only does it remind me that i have the game but it shows me where im at in the game. Its a short cut sort of thing. Sometimes i will go back to a game when no new games are coming out and i decide this by which game im furthest along if i dont have a preference of what i should play next. I also use the system for coop games and games you can play with friends. Much easier to get people to come and play a game with you if you are both in the same spot in the game or stuck in a spot in a hardmode.

Nintendo could have at least made their own version of them with their own spin or twist. Maybe just make it like a sticker or stamp for when you roll credits in a game or something. Roll credits as in just beat the game regularly and the credits roll.

Lack of achievements just makes me invest less in their platforms because im not confident in it or its stability going forward. Ill just stick to the exclusives only and continue to treat it like a side platform for when there is a drought elsewhere.

Good. It's a mental disorder
Lmao! Bro that's going too far, I see achievements as completely useless and not fun if you don't unlock anything but it's mostly harmless and easily ignorable. Calling them a mental disorder is too much lmaoo but still this comment made me laugh.

You need a participation award to stay motivated?

Not surprising, and I'm a little disappointed Nintendo couldn't implement something of their own with their own unique charm.
But hey, at least those folks with weird hate boners for Trophies/Achievements can wipe the rabid foam from around their mouths and rest easy now.

You know the thing I was thinking about is for those that want to attack people who like achievements, trophies etc... And they want to act like it's an epeen thing to me are the ones making it as such, I think they are the ones making it a competition when nobody else is really thinking that.

For example I quit Destiny 2 in May of 23, right before Diablo 4 dropped and once I got sucked into Diablo that was it. And I've mentioned how since then I have platinumed like 24 to 27 games I'd say now, and I just had an absolute blast as it was games like rebirth, wukong, bloodborne, elden ring, alan wake 2 etc.. I had an absolute blast.

And I feel these guys would act like that's a flex when it's just the truth, it was fun I enjoyed it. But I feel they make it a competition because deep down I believe alot of them couldn't platinum some games so the easy road is just attack people for it. Which is quite sad. But while I love to platinum games they can be work, a challenging and fun type of work but they keep you on your toes.

At the end of the day tho games are entertainment and trophies are added incentives for those that want to utilize them, nothing more nothing less.

I have so little interest in achievements & trophies I don't actually know what they really are.

From my understanding (as a pc gamer) aren"t they just little notifications that pop up in-game that tell you you've beaten a boss without taking a hit, found all secrets in an area in x amount of time, etc that serve no purpose to the overall game playing experience?

If so they happen to be the most utterly pointless things in gaming imo.

It's just a joke. I enjoy finishing a game, but achievements/scores don't impact my daily life. I don't compare it with friends.
That's fine, but at the end of the day I don't think many do compare it's just cool seeing the look back. Kinda like collecting cards or whatever, it's a nice collection of gaming journeys is all but an actual stat sheet.

But they do. How is it any different if a game outlines a quest that has you go kill a dragon, or has an exterior "list" that says "go kill this hidden optional dragon" but will pop a trophy for it... Tell me how one has so much more purpose over the other, I'll wait.

They are pointless. From my perspective if a game gives you a mission, optional or not it rewards you with extra lives, powerful weapons, new cards etc. These achievements however that you have compared to quests or whatever - from my experience with them - reward you with a little icon on the game homepage. Hardly a reward but look if you or others are okay with that good on you, I just think personally they are completely underwhelming.

You're just not a stats guy then, and that's fine but there's a ton of games with quests that are absolutely worthless. Like I just recently went back and platinumed Witcher 3 and it's one of the greatest games ever, but a huge portion of quests give you absolutely nothing... Like 5 experience. So games aren't always inherently making everything worth your while, some may be completionist's and want to do every quest for the same of being completionist's. I'd rather go for the stuff that give me trophies, so it's all simply preference.

But back to my original point is it's also stats, I love sports I love records I love stats, it's a look back on accomplishments.

That's fine you don't dig em tho I get it but my point is more slanted to those that act like trophies have held them hostage at one point in their life
