Well, that and his perfectu waifu is waiting for him in the next fantasy world. I'd put that shit back on too, chances of my brain being fried or no. It has to be better than the real world where the next best option is apparently incest with your imouto!

Not that japan wouldn't try to sell plan b. This is the same country that farted out "I can't believe my sister is this cute" after all.

Did you edit in his eyes rolling back into his head?

It's been a long damn time, but I seem to remember .hack//sign's characters not behaving like people playing a game. It was like they were just people living in a generic fantasy world.

That's one of the things I like about SAO. Almost all of the characters behave like people trapped in a game world that's uniquely believable and thoughtfully crafted.

I haven't watched the show in its entirety in a long time either, but since it's only one character that can't log out it's pretty obvious that everyone else would simply play the game how they wish to since they aren't trapped. There are plenty of roleplayers and plenty of people trying to help Tsukasa inside the game and outside. The other characters are members of guilds, item hunters, crafters, everything that SAO has. I'm not sure what you mean by not behaving like people playing a game?

Yes, I also made him smile and have both eyes closed. But the little correction was just a small white pixel I missed near the beginning.
Impressive.

I guess what I mean is that it's like they were all roleplaying. There was barely any indication that they had lives outside the game. I don't remember guilds other than the Silver Knights or whatever, nor do I remember any crafters.

Maybe I should give it a rewatch.

Barely any indication they had lives outside the game?! If we're counting the entirety of Sign, a small portion of it takes place outside in the real world. The characters also meet in the real world and often talk about their real lives as well. The most obvious indication being that they log out! ..to eat and work and whatnot.

You should definitely give it a rewatch though. I think I might as well.. dig out my old Bandai dvds.

Ep 17 is up and DIO is as DIO does, which is to say charisma all over the damn place.

I'm never going to let the fact that the dood is voiced by the guy doing Dio in JoJo's Bizzare Adventure (the TV) die. (LN SPOILER)
He does, more or less use THE WORLD on Kirito anyway

Ep 17

I like Fairyto more than SAO Kirito. Flight system alone makes ALfheim Online leagues better than Sword Art Online. Kiritos antics were hilarious. He was like making an eight in the sky. World Tree and the guardian set up around/in the dome seems way more appealing than ascending 100 floors. Where this lacked though is in the antagonist.
Mind control or memory altering sounds way too ambitious where permadeath felt a bit more realistic of sorts. I dont know, when he got to the contracting with someone in America it just felt silly. Anyway, as long as rescuing Asuna through the power of Kirito and teamwork through different races is there it should be good
.

EP 17 aired ...i'm satisfied with it ..they totally managed to make no visible fault while adapting the LN , it was spot on , including the part with the door ..

You know I liked this show but its getting a little ridiculous with the waifu shit, becoming more and more obvious that this is some dudes power fantasy being played out and its just too transparent for me at this point.

Sword Art Online 17

Game stuff like the racial bonus talk, the magic system, race relations, and the world tree was ace. Rest sucked per the usual.

It's always been that way. I think the second LN had an afterword where the author goes on about how he was never a high level player in an MMO despite playing some so SAO was written as a way for him to experience it or some such.

SAO 17

Really like the set up for the ALF arc. Without the fear of real death I was concerned there would be no stakes but mind control technology is probably more dangerous. Would you rather die as yourself or live as a mind slave?

Episode 17

Phew, I was almost worried about Leafna.
I thought a new challenger had appeared and she was going to vie for Kurto's heart and try to take him away from Assna. But it just turned out to be his cousin.
Cool.

Are you sure?
I thought Imouto is clearly falling for Kirito, I mean she got all red faced and flustered and is quite devoted to him

Sword Art Online 17

This was another poor episode, since nothing of significance really happened. There was a clear necessity to further establish the setting and characters, but the small developments that occurred should have been told in a much more concise, focused manner. The pacing was slightly improved compared to the previous two episodes, but it remains entirely too slow and tedious.

Yui remains the best character, and, as such, her moments with Kirito were quite good, since her relationship with Kirito and Asuna represents one of the better dynamics of the show. The revelation that
Suguha is Lyfa
was highly predictable. Her
romantic interest in Kirito
is a thoroughly unnecessary development, but, at the very least, the inevitable moment she
discovers that Kirito is her brother/cousin
will be greatly satisfying. Recon's nearly as insufferable as Sugou, but, thankfully, his appearance was rather brief. I do like how
driven Kirito is to save Asuna
, since it essentially illustrates a level of immediate suspense that the comical antagonist certainly fails to provide.

Sugou
is a terrible, unconvincing "antagonist". His portrayal as this
perverted egomaniac
isn't threatening at all. Of course, during his
reintroduction
, he conveniently
slips into a monologue of forced exposition that details all the "complexities" of his ultimate plan
. Though he wasn't particularly great,
Kayaba
is a much better antagonist than
Sugou
. One of my largest criticisms of ALO is that Asuna's characterization and role in the narrative as a
damsel in distress
only serves to stall proper character development by artificially forcing her into a state of fixed isolation.

The production values, for the most part, are rather impressive, especially the background art, which, due to the setting, is very visually appealing. The animation was great as well, particularly during the flying sequences.

All in all, Sword Art Online is rapidly descending into something far below mere mediocrity, unfortunately. Though it could certainly improve as the story progresses, I don't really expect it to. Despite the numerous flaws within the SAO arc, it still managed to be consistently enjoyable, but, so far, in ALO, there's a noticeable lack of compelling developments, and the narrative, as a whole, is thoroughly contrived, lacking the proper tension that might allow it to be somewhat engaging.

Well, they're certainly doing a far better job with the ALO pacing than I thought they would. I can't even predict where the episode breaks will be now.

Going to try this out tonight. Been looking for a new show to watch since I finished SteinsGate, of course I always have my standard Gintama, but this look kewl too. The animation is neat @_@

Just finished episode one...Guys...Guys!! Its a fuckin mmo anime whaaaat?!! (i know you guys already knew that, but I basically went in blind) This is going to be like crack to me. I can't believe i've been sleeping on this. Everyone in this thread is the best!

Dont forget to try Robotics;Notes the superior offering from the company that brought you Steins;Gate.

Can such a thing even exist? I will check it out!

You're in for a ride.

Body is ready.

Dammit, I keep on thinking I am in the gaming side and this is a game. The subtitle already has had me sold on the game at least four times now. Reading the description it kind of sounds like the dot.hack games and this one hentai manga I studied before.

I can't believe how that
Sugou is system admin trapping Asuna in the cage... Kayaba was no fool but Sugou claimed him to be one who was fool to begin SAO with.

Fair warning: Robotics;Notes seems to be quite different from Steins;Gate, and it's not a sequel or anything. At most it takes place in the same "universe" and has some references to S;G.

:lol I like your word choice.

Episode 17

Yay, more flying! A visit to a town! Daddy! Daddy! Look how high I can fly! Oh and let's not forget the total douche of a villain showing everyone just how much of an asshole he is. Somehow, all the episodes in this arc are kinda blending together in my mind. There's nothing really distinct about each of them, and they all seem to be hitting the same narrative points over and over. Hopefully this changes soon, because it's getting a bit repetitive now.

Catching on this (13 now). I really enjoyed the first episodes, but the sugar is getting intoxicating in the last episodes. I will keep watching though.

As a MMO player some of the concepts and ideas are pretty awesome. The chapters where they include alternative skills (cooking, fishing, smiting, etc) are my favourite, it´s one of my favourite things from those games and I like how they are applied here. The scenery is pretty great and the fighting is nice too (I have very little experience with anime, not like I can compare it with many things but I have enjoyed what I have seen).

And why it's so damn fast? I close the eyes and two years passed and they are level super high, I wish it was longer and we got to discover properly this world.

Planning to catch on tonight so I can stop wondering why characters has wings now :P

Edit (Watching 13): Sugar overdoooose! I am going to start watching JOJO after this to balance.

Ep 16

So little sister that is not really a sister and is secretly in love with her onichan, eeeevil man with glasses, rescue mission, and now Kirito is Neo, awesome! Still really nice and entertaining to watch

And why it's so damn fast? I close the eyes and two years passed and they are level super high, I wish it was longer and we got to discover properly this world.

Maybe they'll do some oavs at some point , there is one sub plot that they ignored and they could use it easily for some oav or movies if they wanted to

Asuna is truly suffering a fate worse than death by seeing the world in JPEG compression quality.

Wow, what an adventure that was. Watched from 1 to 17 and gotta say the first arc was amazing. But yeah, this second arc, I feel like this is going to end up being a long, painful, case study on what happens when you don't leave well enough alone.

It's almost as if some one walked into the studio and said,
"Hey guys this setting you got going on is great, characters pretty cool, relationships looking good, but HEY fuck all that shit man check this out! Bam: incest Bam: Fairies, Bam: loli fairy chick...we need to average this anime up some...so lets do that.

Also,
shouldnt Asuna and Kir be dead? Their HP dropped to 0 they dissolved, ahkihiko said if you die in the game you die irl...hes dead. How are they still alive?

Why couldn't they have just let the fist arc play out more. Ah well i'll still watch I do still want to see
Asuna and kir get back together
maybe things will get better/at least back to where they were.

This explains a lot. In real MMOs, being a high level player is just like being a low level player, except with more shiny gear. The difficulty of mobs scales up with you, after all.

Asuna's setting was changed by the admin so that she wouldn't die. So when her avatar was killed off she re spawned

As for Kirito my guess is the second the game got cleared the death condition was turned off for everyone

Ah fair enough, guess I missed that. I'm just grouchy because I enjoyed the first game a lot and i've never been a fan of the whole fairy/elf setting.

Actually asuna did die in SAO .. BUt in Sao there is a time window where you can be revived ( if you have a certain very very very rare item )..
The condition that kirito asked was "in the event that i die" ..the duel hadn't been done yet , he didn't change asuna status.

What happenned is that when kirito beat healthcliff , he cleared the game and that automaticly stopped everything else . ( including the ongoing death sentences ) ..it was set so that once you clear the game , everyone not dead (irl) would be safe and then logged out ..this includes Asuna and kirito ( both got their Hp to 0 but kirito still managed to give the final blow despite that fact ..).

As the pair who cleared the game , kayaba then invited them to a special spot

One question...

I notice some people say "Lyfa" or "Leafa"

What is the best name that they should be called in SAO:ALO?

There's no "correct" way to romanize the name リーファ, but if you want the most "official" name, then Leafa. Not only is it what Crunchyroll uses, but you can also catch a partial glimpse of it written in English on her menu window in the game (see here on the upper-left).
Also (episode 17 spoilers follow),
the second kanji (葉) in Suguha's name means "leaf"
.

I just caught up to episode 17 and if this continues I am going to be losing interest fast. This is really disappointing because I really liked the concept and the first 14-15 episodes were great.

I like that now that players aren't trapped in the game world there is a possibility to explore the characters outside of the game, but here is what I don't like:

-The world of Sword Art Online ended really abruptly and there were some loose ends and characters that could have been better explored.
-Alfheim Kirito looks and acts like a complete doofus. I miss the old Kirito.
-I like how Asuna and Kirito were equally strong characters that protected each other. I also really liked their relationship and character interactions. Now, Asuna is just a helpless caged bird awaiting rescue from a hero in shining fairy wings.
-Characters are no longer trapped and the threat of death is gone. This makes characters and their actions seem inconsequential.
-Sister (cousin) and brother love taboo. This is just embarrassing.
-I can't think of anything lamer than a fairy MMO (I can, but still). The flying and evolved angelic forms might make things interesting.
-The Usagi drop character already served its purpose. I liked Yui's original character but find her annoying now.
-Cheesy plot to test and use the advanced Nerve Gear for mind control and sell it to the Americans.
-1-15 and 16-17 seem like two completely different shows. The pacing in 16-17 is slow compared to the first 15 and the tone seems drastically different.
-The villian is very one-dimensional and not as interesting or as compelling as Kayaba.

Also...

Why would Kirito's sister (let alone anyone), non-chalantly play a game like this after what happened to her brother and everyone else?

Why would the government allow Aflheim to exist or the development of the Nerve Gear after the SAO incident?

Doesn't Kirito have contacts with the people investigating the SAO incident? Why not report what is happening in Alfheim and to Asuna?

Why would he take the same character name as he had in Sword Art Online? Wouldn't that be a dead give-away and put himself and Asuna in danger (this is reinforced with the scene where he deletes all of his items to prevent drawing attention to himself)? I liked how there was a pause during the scene where he considered his new character name and I thought he would choose a different name for that very reason but he didn't. derp.

Why are Asuna and Kirito still alive? I can reason that Kirito managed to override the system when he came back from death long enough to prevent any permanent damage from the Nerve Gear but what about Asuna? Maybe she was immediately shifted to Alfheim after she was killed but that wasn't something that Kayaba or anyone outside of the game could have predicted would happen at that very instance.

I'm sure we'll get answers to these questions eventually. Just give it time. Otherwise, yah I agree that the series will be a huge letdown if all the aforementioned plot holes are left open.
