Is the T-Rex in Jurassic Park the best mix of robotics and CGI ever?

Everytime the movie is on TV, I have to watch it for the T-Rex bust-out scene...

It is just unreal how beautiful it is, I wish the Star Wars prequels would have used more "real-world" shots instead of so much damn blue screen...

I feel CGI looks much more real being filmed on a real-life set or real-world location. Look at Yoda at the end of Star Wars III on the ship we meet R2 and C-3PO in the original Star Wars... he looks so much better than in an entire fake CGI space...

Anyways, the T-Rex makes CGI not look like CGI... I love it!

Best CGI ever I think goes to WotW. No wonder, it was made by the same people / FX director who did CGI on Jurassic Park. I would agree with the "best mix of robotics and CGI" though. It's amazing how good JP looks to this day.

Now don't get me wrong... Jurassic Park has some bad CGI, especially when the kids and Dr. Grant are up in the tree and the bronto comes over... right before it sneezes, it goes from robot to full CGI and it looks terrible...

But that T-Rex in almost every shot in unreal... the stampede shot it great... the raptors are great mix or CGI and robotics too!

haven't seen Wotw yet, but I definately agree with Jurassic Park. It just looks natural, and thats where so many other movies with cgi fail miserably.

I'd have to agree, the CGI for JP still holds up today. Most of the CGI in the movies these days have that crap shimmering effect and it's so easy to tell they're rendered shots.

Yeah, I totally agree with JP having some of the best CGI ever. I mean the move is what, 12 going on 13 years old already, and it looks better than most of the CGI stuff out today. I mean when they first see the dinosaurs and they all get out of the jeeps, and the brontosaur is jumping to eat the tree leaves, and then you see them all over the place, at the lake, and shit like that. It just floored me.

I agree that SW3 could have taken a cue from JP and tried to use some real sets with CG characters against it to make it look more realisitc.

I wonder how bad the original Trilogy would have been if they used blue screen for everything.

O/T but fun comparision:

Alien creature
in Signs, vs.
Aliens in cellar
in WotW. That's some serious ownage now that I think about it.

Jurassic Park is still, in my mind, the best realistic looking CGI...it just seems to natural....explosions and alien crap just looks so fake....whoever did the CGI in JP should be honored

good! also, has that company/person who did the CGI in JP done anything else?
ILM? Oh just basically every Steven Spielberg movie ever, the Star Wars movies, Men in Black among others

They're not THAT prolific I guess...

The Prequels use more sets and models than the OT did, people just like to bash CG too much.

Funny thing is that the effects in Jurassic Park 3 are horrible. By far the worst in the series in all departments.

Watching Jurassic Park 12 years ago was freaking amazing. Most movies today arent able to get such a realistic look from CG.

That cant be right, every damn time I see a behind the helmet clip or something of SW3, it was people acting against a blue screen...

I mean granted there were sets, but there is no way there were less in the OT than in these prequels....

There were more sets and models used in the PT. Hell they even REBUILT sets from the OT for the PT (they completely rebuilt the ANH Lars garage and the ESB Star Destroyer bridge sets). And then people start bitching that things are CG when they aren't. Kashyyyk was a giant model mixed with location footage from Thailand, Utapau was a model + sets, and the Mustafar exteriors was a giant model.

I dunno, I thought Yoda was amazingly well done in Revenge of the Sith.
He was, to the point that backgrounds behind him (also CGI, but not as much detail and effort I presume) looked somehow fake in some scenes. It could have even be a real life footage for all I know, but it still looked more fake and less convincing than him, probably because of compositing.

people just like to bash CG too much.
I just don't like the overuse of CG. That thing Obi Wan was riding in RotS was not only poorly animated but also plain annoying in concept (the sounds it gave out especially)

the fuck? war of the world although the movie was lacking looked amazing so I don't know why you are saying they looks fake, the tripods looked pretty convincing to me.

Jurassic Park was incredible first time the T-REX appeared I was blown one of the best memories seeing movies right there.
