Taito now has confirmed which games will be released on the collection Taito Legends. 29 games from 1979-1997 will be in the retro-collection as will extra material in the shape of video interviews with old gaming profiles.

The title will be released 14 October on PS2, Xbox and PC.

Battle Shark
Bubble Bobble
Colony 7
Continental Circus
Electric Yo-Yo
Elevator Action
Exzisus
Gladiator
Great Swordsman
Jungle Hunt
New Zealand Story
Ninja Kids
Operation Thunderbolt
Operation Wolf
Phoenix
Plotting
Plump Pop
Rainbow Islands
Rastan
Return of the Invaders
Space Gun
Space Invaders
Space Invaders part II
Super Qix
Thunderfox
Tokio
Tube It
Volfied
Zoo Keeper

I miss Bonze adventure and Chase HQ as well as don doko don and popnpop
Otherwise a pretty great collection, which puts all the other retro-collections to shame.

I wonder if it has GunCon (2) support, for the Operation Wolf/Thunderbolt games... Probably not.

Precoius memories indeed. Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands and New Zeland Story are three of my all time favourites. Ace.

God, they could not have made these releases more confusing. You're talking about the Euro version, right? Cuz NSCX just posted about the Japanese volume 2 which has different games than you just listed.

Btw, it's also unclear what regions this is hitting. The only way I knew you meant Euro was your use of the British pound sign.

Anyway, maybe the PC version will be best -- at least it can't be interlaced!

Yes, it is. As far as I could tell when I checked on it about a month ago, it's not coming to North America.

So if it comes down to it, what's the easiest console of the three to make region free? No soldering, no unscrewing, no swap tricks, hopefully just some gizmo to plug in.

Yes, I'm talking about the PAL-version of the collection.

I have no idea if it is to be released in the US.

As I understand this collection is a mix of both the japanese releases, but I can't understand why they have skipped some great games and chose some not so great games.

Maybe there will be another Legends 2 later...

No Little Samson? Come on!

I'd save myself the aggrivation and cash and just mame some of these titles if I were you. Some of these titles ain't that great

Got MAME, and an Arcade PC... but I... yeah, why the hell am I worried about this? Nevermind.

Damn, I was hoping that they would put crazy climber on the disc.

Man, I wasted so many quarters on that game when I was a kid. I'd love to play it again sometime.

"Go for it! Go for it!"

No Bust a Move, boo.

Why can't the collections I *really* want get released? Like an ultimate 2D Castlevania collection. Or a Square/Enix "Classic RPG Pak", featuring Soul Blazer, Actraiser 1 and 2, Secret of Mana, and Illusion of Gaia.

Not a bad collection of games per se, but not the most complete one, either. A glaring absence of Toaplan games is rather appalling. Still, a compilation I'd like to see on PSP.

Shame vol. 2 JPN doesn't include Rayforce/Layer Section.

PS. Rastan Saga still has the best game music ever.

Eh. It's pretty much perfect (and cheap, and low-res) on Saturn, and judging by the first volume they might not even give it a TATE mode. GA is a game that really needs a TATE mode.

Kindbudmaster and Killkernal:

I hear you. I bought a Crazy Climber Taito cabinet version in '96, and the power supply is toast, I think.

The game itself was programmed by Nichibutsu in 1980, and licensed by Taito in the states, so that may be why it's not on the compilation. It seems like a natural with the standard twin sticks now.

My only comment is that I now understand why the word classics is in quotations in the topic title.

Now, if Rastan Saga II was in there, I'd be worried. Worst. sequel. ever.

Some glaring omissions: Darius, Arkanoid, Renegade, Gun Buster.

Well, kudos to Atomic Planet for not learning a single thing with Megaman Anniversary Collection and making another retro collection with the jump and fire buttons reversed. And double kudos for still not allowing any custom configurations.

Has anyone that works there ever touched a NES or SNES pad?

This collection is shit.

No... 29 whole games are ruined!

Despite the button switching fiasco, which I agree is complete bullshit, the collection is actually pretty decent presentation-wise. Too bad the interviews, which could've been really great, are extremely brief and practically inaudible (not to mention available for free on the pack's web site).

I agree with the interviews part, I only watched the Rainbow Islands interview and the designer/creator kept looking down and I'm pretty sure he was just reading off cards or something. Didn't seem like a "natural" interview =/

Other than that, reliving some of the older games is great. I never knew about Great Swordsman and after I played it, I was hooked. Fencing/Kendo and Gladiator fighting is awesome but you can't continue (which makes it even more difficult) but that kinda adds to the old-school charm.

Also, I hope Taito Memories makes a US release, although there are some games on Memories that are also on Legends (Bubble Bobble), I'd still like to play the sequel to Elevator Action :)

I still want to know how the Midway, Namco, and Intellivison collections did on the GameCube.

Then again, if Atomic Planet did this collection, perhaps it's a good thing we aren't going to see it there... or possibly ANYWHERE in the USA.

Crazy Climber is Nichibutsu's property, not Taito.
A publisher called Hamster released CC for PS2
a couple of month ago. It was 2000 yen and only feature
Crazy Climber.

The conversion on those releases are said to be very good though and they have a tate option. Each of them also comes with a mini CD with all music and sound effects from the game, a mini DVD with remixed music and a super play video, a mini strategy guide, a collectors card and the manual has several pictures of the arcade board, etc.

Actually I think Sega is bringing over the Tatio Legends. they have it on the B website, and the box cover was in one of those Box cover of the month threads.

what is this year?

Everyones hopping on the "Legends, Classics, Arcade" bandwagon and releasing these compilations :lol

I think it has more to do with keeping their copyrights active so they can hang onto their intellectual properties.
