Tales of Xillia Day 1 Edition (NA, EU), Collector's Edition (NA, EU) announced

Good point.

It is a bit telling, though, that the CE doesn't show up when doing a search for it.

It shows up for me when doing a search. It's not the first result though. It's like #7 when searching Tales of Xillia Collector's Edition.

No release day delivery. I hate how they don't offer those for CEs a lot of times. Now I have to decide if I want it from Amazon or if I should just keep my GameStop order.

Should've given us the Tipo plushie instead of the inferior Milla figure.

I would have suffered through Namco's terrible online store for that.

Made an Amazon preorder just cause I like them more. And Prime shipping.

Probably won't cancel my Gamestop preorder just yet, since they might pull something like exclusive DLC. :E

Is the Amazon link a legit preorder? I've seen items go up for preorder on Amazon before then get pulled because Amazon wasn't one of the retailers selling it. I've got a preorder with GS online, so I'm loathe to go changing mine to Amazon to use my Prime shipping just to have it fall through.

Why wouldnt it be? it has prime shipping, pre order price guarantee, and etc...
It does show up when one searches for it, its like the sixth link down.

Apologies if this isn't the thread for it, but I'm thinking of importing the Japanese version of this to help me practice the language. Is there any reason to believe that the English localization will be an overall step above the Japanese?

Also, is this worth playing for someone that hasn't touched a Tales game since Symphonia and the GBA version of Phantasia? I do want to practice, but I also want to keep my purchases limited (especially for imports). I have plenty to work through already, but I'm always looking for new ones; is this a game you'll look at 20 years from now and see as an all-time great? I may hold off for a while if it's only good/mid-tier.

I'm not the best person to answer this (Dark Schala or Aeana or Kagari would be better), but I thought Vesperia's localization and dub work was really good, where Graces was a bit weaker. I have played through Vesperia PS3 as well, and while I don't really know Japanese at all, there seems to be a lot of places/wiki's online to help with text and menus and everything for Tales games so I never had a people with a language barrier or anything.

EDIT: I haven't played Xillia but common big criticisms seem to be empty landscapes and annoying boss battles. Doesn't sound like something on the level of, say, Xenoblade in terms of great modern days JRPGs. Again, I haven't played it.

That's nice, I should go with Amazon and get free shipping, but then I'd have to wait a week or so to get. I think since its Tales I will just eat shipping costs to get it sooner. I've never had problems with Gamestop the site before.

No.
For me the dub didn't have the magical aspect for some characters. It might be as good , maybe. but no it won't be a step - up.
IMO , in term of voice acting xillia was excellent.
For the names of the locales/characters it's open to debate. i have the name in my head since i've played 2 games with those and the english version rub me the wrong way but it's not that bad..

Xillia is a great game in term of battle mecanics ..it's fast , yet keep things simple. Since it's being localised you might just pick the localised version and pick another game that have less chances to be localised instead.

If those are your last experiences Xillia will probably seem like an improvement in many ways. I'd say it's worth playing even for people with more extensive experience with the series, but I wouldn't say it's one of the defining games of the series, this generation of RPGs, or RPGs in general. I don't think it's too difficult to import a copy for a lower-than-normal price, but I would just wait for the localized version.

If you really wanted to import a Tales game, I would probably recommend Vesperia. The overall opinion of the game is more positive than Xillia's, and due to its large playable cast and many, many supporting characters, there's a lot of variety to find in its dialogue and styles of speech. It's also more verbose than Xillia, but that may end up becoming more of an annoyance over time than a benefit.

All right, looks like I'll check Youtube later to see if it jives with me. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on something amazing. Thanks for the input, and thanks Vanille and Seda too!

Thanks, looks like that's what I'll do. Sounds like Xillia's strength is in its gameplay, and that's not what I'm looking to practice. I've got Vesperia ready and waiting, but I still struggle with it too much to jump back in just yet. I actually don't know much about Vesperia's Japanese, but it's nice to know it has variety to test me with.

i contacted amazon's CS to check on the preorder and this is their reply:

I see that you are concerned about your Tales of Xillia (Collector's Edition).

I've checked the availability for "Tales of Xillia (Collector's Edition)" and see it won't be released until August 6, 2013. Also, I confirmed that it was successfully placed and a legit pre-order.

Don't worry, we'll ship the Tales of Xillia (Collector's Edition) to you once it's been released and we've received inventory.

We don't charge you for an order until it enters the shipping process. You'll see an estimated delivery date for your pre-order during checkout.

I hope this helps. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

so i think there's no need to worry bout it :)

i have been getting all my stuff from amazon the day things gets released or 1-2 days from that

Looks like the CE is now sold out on gamestop.com, nor do I see it on Amazon anymore.

I was going to wait until I went in the store next week but I luckily I ordered it on gamestop.com...

I wonder if they are going to stop taking in store pre-orders. I talked to the manager at the local gamestop and they only got one in store pre-order and it was by an employee.

Looks like the Amazon preorders sold out in 2 days. Hopefully everyone here that wanted one on Amazon was able to place an order.

I remember seeing it sold out on gamestop a few days ago and I couldn't find it on amazon. And then seeing all the dreadful 139.99 + on ebay. But tonight gaf I saw it available on gamestop's website once again. I pre-ordered and now my summer won't be ruined. I'm excited to try out the tales series for once. wanted to since I was a kid.

SO flood gamestop because I think this is everyone's last chance. I rem being crushed when Borderland 2 was gone. I never bought the regular edition because I was so pissed . was the worst birthday ever.lol

Looks like they have it back in stock, for how long, who knows.

Ordered. THANK YOUS

You're very welcome. I'm glad I could help out at least one fellow Canadian. :)

Now at least I can cancel my Gamestop.com pre-order. I wasn't exactly looking forward to paying the premium to import it from the US. >_<

Edit - SOLD OUT!

That was fast.

Now, before I do the same thing and cancel my pre-order from the US website... we definitely did get our pre-orders, right? The fact that this keeps going in and out of stock and random intervals has me worried.

We should. As long as it's listed under our accounts we should be fine.

If it wasn't so expensive I'd probably keep my Gamestop pre-order, just as a safety net. But I don't think it will ne necessary. We have our orders placed and release is still months away. I'm sure there's more than enough time to allocate our orders.

Namco will fuck it up like Ninokuni.

To be fair, Digital River was to blame for that.

Well, I guess you could say that Namco shouldn't have used them in the first place, but even still, at least they're not using DR for distribution for the CE of Tales of Xillia. I was worried that they would. -_-

It's a shame too. The idea behind the Ninostarter was great, I just wish it was handled better. :(

After the original print of Sky and the LE of Hyrule Historia I wouldn't take being able to pre-order through Amazon or EB as a guarantee. But it should still make it more likely to go smoothly, and for us to know sooner than later that things have gone awry; at least if Amazon takes forever we have a feel for how they work and can immediately deduce there's a problem.

Geez that was fast! Up and gone for I think the third time on ebgames.ca. The page has been completely removed from their site now. Luckily got in my gamestop.com order. Brokerage might be a pain though.

Brokerage is some extreme, high-level bullshit of the highest order.

Take these steps: http://trueler.com/2010/11/24/self-clear-shipment-cbsa-avoid-ups-brokerage-fee/

I did when UPS wanted to charge me fucking 70 dollars brokerage for Ni No Kuni. It works.

Wow that sounds like a nightmare. I have never had to pay these fees in the past, is it only certain carriers who charge them? I import hundreds of dollars worth of goods from Japan regularly and occasionally from US so I'm not sure if I've just been lucky. Now I'm feeling pretty nervous, would I be better off to do package forwarding from a service like games for canada?

The difference is Gamestop.com uses UPS for International shipments. That means brokerage charges. Normally when you get items from Japan it's through Canada Post. You can still get custom's charges, especially on larger EMS shipments, but generally I don't [I'm the same as you, I get regular shipments from Japan sometimes 3-5+ times monthly].

Also, apparently some people are having their EBGames.ca pre-orders cancelled that ordered yesterday. Good thing I haven't yet cancelled my Gamestop.com pre-order.

I'll wait until I get clarification before I do.
