Tattoo AND piercing thread

Planning on getting a few tattoos in the next few months. Anyone who has a few, could you tell me if I'll have to stop working out at all, and for how long?

Thanks for any help.

I have a lot of tattoos and typically you want to stop working out for about a week. One time I did a lot of vigorous cleaning the evening after I got some work done and lost a good amount of color due to sweating it out. Granted it was on my wrist, so that may have had something to do with it, but better safe than sorry.

You basically want it to flake/peeling completely before exercising again...you don't the scabs to fall off due to be stretched or scratched off...IMO, good aftercare for the first two weeks is extremely important in having a good looking tattoo years after you get the work initially done..

I use Aquafor, 4x's a day, for the first 4 days after getting work done...Then dc Aquafor, start with regular, non-scented lotion on it, 3x's a day for roughly the next 1.5-2 weeks...Don't soak it in lotion..Thin layer so it's "moist", but not drenched. After the 2 weeks, just use lotion as needed, avoid sunburns, lots of sun without sunscreen as it'll fade the piece...You see so many crappy tattoos because people don't take care of them.

Can someone explain why these things are increasingly popular? In most cases i see they are unapealing and inappropriate

People have been tattooing one another for thousands of years. It's nothing new. Why the recent (last 10-15 years) increase in popularity? Not sure exactly...Less stigma, better marketing (the tattoo reality shows), less conservative views in the workplace?? Those are my guesses.

I guess, i dont know what compels people imo when its with you for life, the body is a beautiful creation as is

Your opinion may differ from others.

Also there is already a thread for tattoos in the off topic community section, a quick search would find it.

Some I did last week, he wanted the thicker outlines on the Aliens shit for some reason.

Love this style. My tattoo artist in CT specializes in this style. He still needs to finish the rest of my chest.

I've got my family's crest on my forearm, diseased best friend's signature on my wrist, full chest piece, and a Resident Evil symbol on each thigh. Also have inch gauges (Which right now are pissing me off to no end right now) and used to have my nipples pierced. If I can find any pictures I will.

Artists name is George Perham, but I guess until I find pictures that bit of info is useless :p

I have Snakebites and both ears pierced once. Just started stretching my left ear, leaving the right a tad longer before I get into it.

As a side note, my ears haven't been healing well at all, got them pierced over a year ago and they still bleed, almost weekly. Anyone else had a similar experience / any advice? (Had no trouble with my lip healing by the way, and I clean my ears regularly).

You'll be fine to work out. Just wash it after you work out. As far as i know the ink doesnt come out with sweat or anything

I have snakebites and two piercings in my left lobe that I'm stretching. Used to have my right lobe pierced, but I messed up stretching it so I let it heal over. Hole is stil there, but nothing through it. Also used to have 3 in the upper cartilage of my ear, but they annoyed the hell out of me so I took them out.

Gonna go get my tongue done today I think. Anyone tell me roughly how painful it'll be? It's been about 6 years since I last had a needle stuck through me ;)

I'm still a fairly new member here, so I couldn't make my own thread about this. I found this thread via search, and was hoping I could ask some advice here.

I am going to be getting my first tattoo soon, and I decided I wanted to get this:

I love metal gear, but I also thought that this looks cool enough that even out of context, that it'd make a great tattoo.

I want to get the tattoo places on my right shoulder/bicep. Similar placement to where the patch is that Snake has on from MGS ground zeroes. The artist I'm seeing seems fine doing it the way it is, with the fox facing to the left, but the problem is, that I've been told that it's considered bad luck to get a tattoo of an animal or face, that isn't facing forward.

One tattoo artist I saw suggested flipping it, but I don't want to flip the image, because that would be the XOF symbol, and not the FOX symbol. I want to represent the good guys, not the bad guys. They also suggested doing it on my left arm instead, but I am planning on doing some more elaborate tattoos on my left arm to cover up some scars I have.

I guess what I'm asking for is advice. This is my first tattoo, and I don't want to be looked down upon for it by other people with tattoos for "not doing it right" or something. As long as the artist is willing to do it the way I want, should I care?

Nah, get what you want, it's your body & your tattoo. I haven't played any Metal Gear games, but that's a pretty elegant & tasteful image IMO.

Apologies for the necrobump, but I just stumbled across the thread now. I have two piercings in my left earlobe, and I recently got my first tattoo on my right upper arm. The image quality is pretty pixelated in the tattoo image; the lines aren't jagged like that on the real thing.

Earrings: I usually have one small one and one dangly one. The image on the right is what I'm currently wearing.

Tattoo: This one is full of Old Norse symbolism. It includes Odin's two ravens, Huginn and Muninn, a triple spiral (3 was a special number), a lattice effect, and the runes Mannuz and Ansuz, with Ansuz also inverted to portray ungodliness or non-theism. It's all done to the effect of being a woodcarving.

No tattoos yet but I'm working on a few designs. Have had 15 piercings if memory serves but currently have a triple helix, a Prince Albert, vertical and horizontal nipples and twin micro dermals in my navel. Did have a quad navel with BCR's but they never healed to a point I was happy with.

I took a picture half way through one of them.

My piercer should be doing my Apadravya next month and another pair of dermals.

Which tattoos or piercings? If speaking of both, I blame the youth of the 90's. Me and my friends are in our 40's and were punk rockers back when this trend first became popular. Our thought is that the people younger than us saw us doing this stuff and thought it was cool, so they did it to an extreme. That's why you see so many women in the late 20's early 30's covered in tattoo's, at least more women than any previous generation.

Regarding the Apadravya, even considering how insane it is that anyone would voluntarily do this to themselves, it's even more insane that it goes through the urethra. I can't imagine the complications that could lead to.

Pretty much none. Male genitalia piercings are often the fastest to heal and most risk free. Prince Alberts for instance can be usable after just a few days in some cases and they also go through the urethra. The penis has an immense blood supply and heals very quickly, providing you don't have a prior UTI your urine is almost the perfect sterile solution for washing the piercing.

So every time you wizz you clean the piercing and the whole area has an almost wolverine like healing ability.

The Ampalang doesn't always go through the urethra so can take a bit longer. Navel and ear piercings have a far higher infection and complication rate.

I have my daughter's first and name on my inner right bicep and I have my nipples pierced. Got them done on a whim one day, now I forget I have them until something hits one and causes great pain lol, but the ladies fucking love them.

I plan to get more tattoos soon, been putting it off, but I need to get mine filed in and then get more ink

I don't know what it is called, but I had the skin right under the head pierced as a teen

I have never worried about any piercing, even my vertical nipples which are 30mm long and were a fairly rough experience. But that apa, that has me a little hesitant!

Sea salting my PA was a bizarrely surreal experience, I'm just going to stand here with my bell submerged in a glass of warm water for a while... hums to self...

What I am currently working on, was hard to get a decent picture of it myself.

And here is my first tattoo on my right calf. (With a shitty instagram picture since this picture is old.)

Cool, a thread for the unemploeyd / low salary employed.

For someone so educated you can't even spell unemployed correctly.

I once had sex with I girl who had the faces of James Hetfield, Angus Young and that Kiss Bassist tattooed on her back. Doggystyle was wiered as all hell. What's the point in having these faces on your back?

hmmm. I'm technically higher than the first two tiers of Management level at for one of the big six energy companies (I'm a senior Analyst) and have 6 piercings and one stretched ear. Most proper companies seem to look more at your talent these days than what you have in your ears/nose/etc.

Sorry guys. Sometimes I forget bad humour works even worse in written form :p My bad.

Fair enough, not unfunny in retrospect. But you'll realize the reason the joke doesn't work is because there are a fuckton of people who make posts like that on the regular in these threads.

True that. Once again, bad judgement on my side whilst browsing GAF on mobile waiting in car sitting on mother-in-law's pavement :)

BUT, there's a stigma associated with any sort of body modifications which makes certain jobs harder to get. Let's say finance and law.

I have been thinking of getting the wolf from the cover of Swans' album The Seer on my arm.

Would that be dumb? I really love this album and it's a cool wolf. None of my family supports me in this, but I've mentioned it to some friends and they are cool with it.

A friend of mine, who's a lawyer for a music firm, has more difficulty with dyeing her hair the way she wants instead of the tattoos she has. It's still an archaic way of doing business though, because more and more tattoos/body mods are becoming the norm.

Back on topic though, I've only got 1 piercing (10mm flesh tunnel in left ear) and 2 tattoos (Dream Theater's "Majesty" symbol (this band practically saved my life) at the top of my back and a half-sleeve of things I love in a comic book format).

I love any sort of body modification. I use to really be into piercings but the maintenance wore thin on me with my job.

I have a sleeve on my left arm, half of it being Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman. The lower half being more nerdy stuff like Cthulu, Bulbasaur, R2D2 and some traditional work. I have so many ideas that Id like to apply to my skin but it's not cheap!

A wolf? Looks like one those terrible yappy dogs only with a human mouth.
I foresee regrets in your future.

I'm trying to figure out the perfect spot for my first tattoo, and I'm choosing between two. One is more vertical while the other is square shaped.

I was thinking arm? With the smoke on my deltoids kinda. I'm more curious where I can the coffee splotch one.

Don't get that shit anywhere near your torso, at least for the first time. Arms are ideal, above the cuff just in case you regret/work issues.

Speaking of arm. I'm about to get this on my inner bicep:

Used to have an Apadravya(miss it so much). Got rid of it because even though the woman loved it she's a religious weirdo and thought it was somehow against her morals and kept making me take it out during sex like a year after we'd been together. I can still put in a prince Albert.

Does it heal or you have to block the blowholes when you pee now?

I'm trying to get a coverup for one done on my thigh.

Trying to find something to inspire me.

Anyone seen any really good nature tattoo books online?

Funny this thread pops up today, the tattoo shop down the road had a $20 a piercing above the waist special today and so now I have pierced nipples. Hurt bad y'all.

I have an "enso" circle on my left elbow.

I don't really have any good shots of it, but here's the best I could dig up:

I got my ears pierced maybe 7 years ago too. I saw a girl with bamboo earrings and said to myself "well, I need to get that done too." I think it looks good since I have dark features to begin with and I have black glasses. Without black hair and glasses, I don't think I'd be able to pull it off.

I still want to get more tattoos, but I haven't really had as strong of urges to do so as compared to when I was younger. I also don't have as much money to burn either now that I'm working and living on my own. The only tattoo I still want to get after all of these years is a thicket of bamboo done in the Japanese sumi charcoal painting style on one of the sides of my ribcage (going to hurt like a motherfu--). Something like this:

Looking at my post right now, this probably makes me come off as a huge Japanophile or something. Haha.
