Did the same artist do all 3? The shading on the Jason mask is insanely good.

EDIT: Thanks, phil-x. I'm flattered.

Yes, the same artist. We're trying to do tats of the character with their signature weapon. Next up is Pinhead from Hellraiser, with the puzzle box.

Awesome. Finding a skilled artist is one of the most important parts in getting a(ny) tattoo, so it's great to see you've partnered up with someone really talented that you can keep going back to.

Thanks. Took years of being disappointed in my ink to find the right artist. He's awesome.

Been nearly 10 years, it's held up remarkably well considering I never use sunblock or anything. No blurring or fading.

Don't get that shit anywhere near your torso, at least for the first time. Arms are ideal, above the cuff just in case you regret/work issues.

Yeah thats what I'm thinking. At the deltoids and a little lower on the outside.

Subscribed..

I have a bunch tattoos. I'll post later cause on a crappy laptop now but my wife is a tattoo artist so I get free tattoos.

I do have my lip pierced (middle) and I used to have a industrial but took that out.

I'm planning on getting my first tattoo within the next three months, and it's an idea I've wanted to explore for nearly two years. I'm planning on getting it on the inside of the left bicep, and later in life, another on the inner right bicep. As there's tons of you guys in here with amazing works of art, any advice?

The design that I want would extend from the edge of my armpit to roughly two inches short of my elbow (maybe 6" long, 3" wide), however I've heard over and over again the obnoxious cliché about tattoos being "unprofessional," and the fear of making a "real job in the real world" more difficult to obtain (as of right now, I'm a 22 year-old University student, yet to dive into the grind of 9-5 corporate awesomeness).

Is there any relevance or back-up to this claim? We've all heard it before, so I would love to get a little clarification to this - and what better place than here! Personally, my philosophy is that if a business is willing to turn me away based on my tattoo(s), they're certainly not people I want to associate with.

But anyways, I've also toyed with the idea of gauging my ears (although no more than a size 2), and any advice or experience in that realm would be wonderful as well (will the holes close in time if need be?, etc.).

Thank you all so much in advance!

I'm also 22 so I might not have much to offer, but that one should be fine for you. I do think there is some truth to that claim, but it also heavily matters on where it is.

I have one on my upper arm that wraps around the bicep and it seems perfectly fine as even short sleeve shirts cover it if an employer would happen to have an issue with it. I'm more wary of getting any on the lower arm but anywhere else aside from obvious places like the face/hands seems fair game.

I want to show y'all pics of my cover up I got finished awhile ago:

Before with outlining and some shading already done:

I am a fan of a watercolour type tattoos and was at one point seriously thinking of getting one from Sasha Unisex. I really adore her style.

She just doesn't anymore take comissioned works but just does her own watercolour works based on her personal preferences and then you can pick from only those. Also it would have also required a trip to Russia (and I have no idea of her most likely very high prices). So I have sadly just give up on that dream.

Getting my first tattoo next Saturday; just had my final consultation / chat with the tattoo artist yesterday. Getting a dot-work tattoo - a geometric shape (specifically an octahedron) along my ribs... yeah, preparing for the pain.

Will post a pic after it's done and healed.

Nothing to worry about, it's really not as bad as people make it out to be, a tougher spot for your first yes but you will adjust to the pain after a few minutes and then it will all feel fairly much the same for a while. I like to either suck on a lolly or talk to my artist. :)

My first two were on either side on my ribs.

It's a shitty spot for your first, but then again after having lots of other work done, it hasn't really been all that much better anywhere else.

Where are you getting your first done at?

Wow, that skull+rose piece is crazy good, deadmeadows. IIRC, you started with your chest piece, right? Seems like you've gotten lots of work done since.

I'm really interested to hear about your experience and take on tattooing. Don't forget to update the thread!

Amazing coverup.

Yea the artist is really amazing, has a background in oil painting. Her portraits are spectacular. From what I gather it was really challenging due to size and thick clumpy lines and what not.

Never got one, but I'm thinking about doing this one:

4097078400.jpg

Not the entire poster obviously, just the kanji for "Ran", in black.
I don't though if I should copy exactly the one in the poster, with the detail of the stains, or make it more generic though (I like the first option best, maybe not exactly the same but a couple of dots here and there to make it seem like it's been written like in the poster).
Also don't know where to make it. I was thinking the wrist for some reason, but I'm afraid it could be too exposed. I don't have the best body so on the back or the front would be wasted unless I lose those 15 kilos in excess.

What do you guys think?

All I have is Jin's tat from Tekken on my left upper arm. Had it for fourteen years haha. I've been optioning different pieces for years and still haven't gotten another. I need to SOON though!

Yeah my artist mentioned that I should bring lots of sugary drinks and candy; think I'll definitely bring a few lollies! Good tip - thanks.

A studio in London called The Circle.

I really like the idea of a tattoo. And my gf wants to get another one/have me get one.

But I can't for the life of me think of anything i like enough to get on me forever.

There are certain song lyrics i like, but that I think would come out superrrrrrrrr emo sounding. Which would not really be my intention.

I also am not sure "just words" is an interesting tattoo.

When I try to think of anything visual i come up completely blank.

Heh, nothing to worry about... LIES!1!! I've got a couple in various places and everything in the torso area has been bad, the ribcage was ridiculous... (nice work by the way!)

My artist wants to touch it up but i won't let her ;P She'd also be mad at the way I'm standing for the pic but whatever lol. I have Grumpy bear about 1/2 the size on the other side and that shit was unbearable as well. I want to cover up the Olde English crap on my tummy, but not looking forward to that either.

I used to have my labret and nipples pierced, labret wasn't bad but the nipples sucked, when I lost one of the piercings and couldn't get another piece of jewelry in there I took the remaining one out, didn't want anyone thinking I was a wuss who couldn't handle both being done, which is ironic because while I loved the piercings, I don't wanna go through that again...

Not sure what I want to get next, need to fill in my arm with more random shit then start a back piece. Just not sure what I want back there. I know my artist wants to touch up a bunch of my older stuff and lord knows it needs it, but I think I want more new stuff. Not during summer though, taking care of them here this time of year with my job is a pain.

And Featheredkitten, that cover up looks great!

Don't worry about a rib piece being your first man. I did the same and like someone else mentioned it sucks at first but your body releases those endorphins and you don't notice the pain for awhile. The part that bothered me the most was how it vibrated my whole chest when he was coloring, I stupidly got white for my pin-ups nurse uniform and it had to be touched up a lot! The small area where it came across my stomach was honestly the most painful part.

Curious anyone ever used a&d cream on their healing tats? Was suggested by an artist and a friend who said he used it so thinking of using it on my half sleeve.

Lot's of good stuff in that tattoo thread.
I hope this one will stay fairly free of unwanted opinions if it stays open.

Here's some of my ink. I'm too squeamish for piercings. :p

Deftones fan huh? I like it.
How's the placement on that butterfly working out for you?

I'm gunna be getting a Dragonfly at some point, was thinking on the inside of my forearm. But just there below the elbow looks sweet and just as easy to cover with sleeves.

Im currently in the plans for a Mega Man X half sleeve, looking through my MM Complete Works by UDOn for ideas.

Neck was first, chest was second. :) And yes, it's the masterpiece I don't get much chance to show off!

Yeah my artist mentioned that I should bring lots of sugary drinks and candy; think I'll definitely bring a few lollies! Good tip - thanks.

I failed to mention that unless I'm lying down, I always feel like I'm going to pass out, lol. That's what all the sugar is for. ;)

!

I actually found the rib area much nicer than towards my tummy. :) I will say what I've said to others before though, yes it did become unbearable but that was as we approached the 6th hour haha, after everything was done and he had to go back over it all to add white. That involved writhing and moaning. Other than that I "sit very well."
My sternum was by far the most painful, for me.

When I try to think of anything visual I come up completely blank.

Find a tattoo artist whose work you like and go from there, let that be your inspiration, you don't have to come up with a complete idea on your own. Tell an artist what you like about their work and let them come up with something for you. Start by finding out what studios you have around you, and look them up on Facebook to see the most up to date work of the artists.

Deftones indeed. :)
Placement - if you're talking in terms of work I haven't had that obstacle yet, I got it right before I started a tattoo apprenticeship. I'm not currently working due to health reasons.
I intend to do a lot more to that arm, on it's own it's kinda floaty and stamped on, I got it there so it would be easy to work around and build on in future. If you're just wanting a dragonfly individually I think inside of forearm is better.

People still judge others for getting tattoos? Get over yourself.

A lot of nice work in this thread. I'm on the verge of getting my first, I just know that once I start I won't be able to stop.

I'm getting one done in a few weeks. I used to be sort of against tattoo's but I got my now ex-wife's name on my shoulder so I need to get it covered up.

I'm going to this guy that does watercolor style tattoos and it's going to be some sort of batman mixture on my upperarm and onto my shoulder. I'm fairly excited about it because I'm tired of looking at this bitches name on my arm all the time.
