I used to collect Criterion on DVD/Blu-ray so this will really workout for me. I have no preference for physical discs (even with higher bit-rates, quality, extras).

I just want convenience. And if I REALLY love the film then maybe I'll grab a physical copy. Will try the trial, and sign up for both for a year if it's great.

Pricing and Launch Details announced!

-$6.99/Month for Filmstruck
-$10.99/Month for Filmstruck + Criterion
-$99/Year for Filmstruck + Criterion
-14-Day Trial
-Launches October 19th
-Initially on Fire TV, Web, iOS, Android; Apple TV in the coming months.

I was expecting $15 a month so I'm happy with this. Just need to know that I can get 1080p on PC.

instant sub. Apple TV "months to come" is lame... though I'll just AirPlay until then I guess.

fwiw, their official twitter clarified that as "A few weeks after launch."

SCORE!

yeah, will annually subscribe day one. I've been asking for this for like 5+ years now. (well, TCM ala carte, but this is possibly even better)

It's the price I wanted.

I just need to know the tech details and get a sense of the library before pulling the trigger.

Canceling Hulu the minute they lose the library. Still cramming in a couple Criterions a week to get my last months worth.

I could have sworn it was on when I signed up a few months ago...I thought I added it to my list and everything

Maybe you're confusing it with Kagemusha? All of the Studio Canal films like that have been real pains in the ass to find streaming, barring miracle saves like the Tati films.

I'm not crazy, I'm sure it wasn't Kagemusha! This is the first result! The link says it's unavailable now, so it must have been taken off recently. I definitely remember adding it to my list. Maybe it wasn't part of the criterion subsection, but it was there!

That's a great price. Sold!

"Constantly refreshed" ...is that another way of saying "rotating selection"? I know that's typically because of film rights expiring, but I thought Turner owned the rights to all these films under the Filmstruck banner? Why not just have the catalogue available at all times?

I am more on the "need film at the highest-quality" end of the spectrum, but I can see the value of a huge library available. The price feels a bit high for something most people won't be dipping into often, but I guess it depends how extensive the selection is.

Eh, people need something to look forward to. Otherwise, someone could get a membership for a month or two, watch everything, then cancel their membership. A rotating catalogue incentivizes people to keep their membership.

Might be into this. Despite the fact that Netflix has "flix" in their title, they are terrible for trying to watch movies nowadays. Literally everything I've searched for in the past 3 months I haven't found.

Yeah it's an awful service for movies. This is going niche with the very old titles but I hope they make do on that promise at least. I want plenty of stuff pre 00s

@andy_baughman Hi Andy: Great question. #CriterionChannel much larger than Hulu offering - 1,000+ titles with extras.

awesome.

yeah and with all the talk of netflix focusing more on original content I don't see this getting any better in the future

I have a firetv to so I'll be subbing this asap

I am surprised at how much I missed TCM when I cord-cut.

TCM and Criterion (+Janus, Kino, etc.) would fill that void left by Netflix's shrinking library and the collapse of the rental market.
