just did some quick comparison on chrome between hulu and filmstruck. Looks like the quality is the same. but hulu load much faster. This is disappointing, I was hoping for 1080 stream and extra features.

That's really disappointing. Maybe they can use better encodes once the deal with Hulu is over.

In hindsight, I should have been concerned that they were pushing the diversity of the library rather than image quality. The lack of transparency for bitrates and such as well.

The team behind this aren't amateurs, and they are known for quality. I'd assume they are testing out how far they can push with the massive influx of users and then increase as they go. It would be more fair to compare this with the first few days of Hulu's quality when it launched than with where Hulu is now.

I agree. The people behind the service are veterans and are all about quality and content. I'm excited to see where it goes over the next year as they fine tune it and continue to add films and special features. I will invest in their passion because it's one of mine as well. I'm not the biggest physical collector anymore so this is a blessing for me.

I'm loving this. I spend more time watching host intros and supplemental features than the films ha ha.

As far as quality goes, sometimes it does take a bit to get up to full res. I am on the new Fire TV, the one with 4K support, so things are pretty good for the most part. I have a friend with a first gen fire tv who says it's nearly unwatchable at times. Sounds like their compatibility testing was poor, and lower memory devices suffer. I'm not surprised there are memory issues with all the transitions and background images it loads.

Hopefully they get all the app kinks out.

They should fix their software. Films do not properly display on an ultra-wide.

Rather unfortunate given this is meant to be aimed at cinephiles. : \

yeah I'm on fire tv and it sometimes takes up to 30 seconds for it to get to max quality

once it does i haven't had any complaints

the app itself is kinda slow.. i get that spinning wheel a lot.. also everytime i finish a movie and it goes back to the menu i get a weird notification saying I'm not connected to the internet

the host intros and stuff are really great

Looks right to me. The source is ~16:9 including the black borders on the top and bottom.

Started the free trial. I am not seeing a link for support. What the hell?

Update: Found it. Have to go to your account page. Time to see if they care about appealing to discerning customers.

By definition they do, as they are a boutique film service. However, the service isn't yet one month old and they clearly have a lot of work to do in terms of infrastructure and tech. It's a pretty solid launch compared to other similar services, but as they say, no battle plan survives contact with the enemy. I guarantee you they know every single thing you're going to complain about to them already.

I can understand those things, but they need to be transparent to gain my trust.

Got a response from Filmstruck customer support. They didn't answer all of my questions, and I didn't even ask that many. Basically all I was told is that the max resolution is 1080p and they use an adaptive bitrate. :\ Better than nothing.
