Teaser for the live action The Little Mermaid

After how bad The Lion King and Pinnochio were, the most shocking thing is they're releasing this one in theaters.

God damn, they know what they're doing with their musical placement in promos, though. By all rights this sounds like an abortion on paper, but that refrain will always give me nostalgic chills.

The tunnel and lights were like Annihilation and the Shimmer.

Almost put this cartoon in the 90s nostalgia thread(89).

Read that the Sword in the Stone is getting a live treatment. This trailer is encouraging if it is.

Lion King still made like 1.6 billion dollars thanks to normies. This is probably guaranteed at least a billion. Really not liking the look of it, but at least a new generation of kids will be able to experience the songs.

It does not look that "bad", but they showed nothing more than CGI and a bit of Ariel, which her hair wasn't that red. Of course, I won't be watching this movie in the cinema (I rarely do anyway), maybe when it goes to Disney+. and only if my daughter wants to see it.

Everyone of their live action remakes have been garbage.

This like lion king is just realistic animation with people near a green screen.

Hopefully it's like Aladdin and does its own thing while having the same basic skeleton .

Halle Bailey has such a beautiful voice... Still can't believe how strong it is now.

I wish we could fire all the staff at Disney.

No Way What GIF by Late Night with Seth Meyers

"Hey Jim, you holding up okay?"
"Not really, Frank. I lost my job today. And I'm still paying off my student loans, so this is pretty rough on me."
"Shit, what happened? You show up late one too many times?"
"Nah, we made a movie somebody on the Internet didn't like the look of and they wished for us all, like every single Disney employee, to lose our jobs. Amd then Satan himself granted the Internet rando their wish, and well, here we are."
"So let me get this straight: some rando on the Internet wished for thousands of people to lose their means of living purely because a film was made that they don't even have to go see if they don't want to?"
"Yeah, pretty much."
"Well that makes no sense!"
"It's a random person on the Internet, Frank. Odds of them making any sense are usually not good."

Over sings the song, yeah pass.

Sadly company once known for their great creative work is just destroying their legacy. At the very best this could be OK, like Beauty and the Beast. But neither I nor anyone I know ever wanted to see it again.

I mean, it's still a hot lady in a bikini (or bikini top rather). And considering she's from a country that even if it exists there's no definitive proof of where it was located so her skin tone could be anything.
Definitely. I just wish it was as close to the cartoon and 3D version of Ariel as possible, but I'm aware they take liberties with their live actions.

I could have just said the board members or whoever makes the big decisions. Read up on Epic Mickey and you'll see what I mean. Disney doesn't give a sh*t and they make money for not giving a sh*t. I don't really care if they make another billion. You won't see the people running the rides or dressing up as a princess making that kind of money.

Fair enough, yeah people on the board could either get new jobs elsewhere anyway or retire. I just wouldn't wish it on the actual people making films and such.

It's all about the money. I read up on Lion King's wiki and the latest CGI movie got rated terribly. Probably among the worst rated Disney kids movies ever at ~50%. But it still made $1.6 billion at the box office. Mulan (during covid) only made $70 million. It got rated better than LK at 73%, but much lower than the old animated movie.

Who knows how this new LM movie will do in terms of money and review scores, but the latest Disney movies above have been reviewed mediocre.

The trend is grittier realistic looking kids movies. That's probably part of it. The movie plots in Disney movies are as cookie cutter as they can get. I remember a site analyzing them and basically all of them have the same kind of plot holistically, but the setting and art are different. So whether it's a Disney movie in 1950, 2000 or 2050 they are probably all going to have similar kinds of plots. That's the not the problem.

I'm not even a big Disney movie fan, but to me I can see the charm being the art and music. And animated cartoons can be charming if done right. Realistic looking CGI and live action combo filming might be great for a nature show where writers simulate a battle between ants and termites using 3D graphics, but doesn't really fit kids animated storytelling.

It's not like wishes actually come true "wink-wink". I don't actually mean they should all suffer. Nothing hits a business harder than a loss of profits. Rich businessmen don't comfort a person just because they had a hard time. It only matters when they themselves lose money.

I'm also an adult male who only cares about Disney because they either A. Own an IP I like or B. Because of my kids enjoyment. Disney is money hungry. I watched the animated show as a kid and as a parent. It's different but it's also super weird. All the live stuff is just weird.

Oh I'm still Holding judgment out until I see it but one thing I did notice is that every other YouTube comment is the exact same. Bots working overtime on this one huh?

This would be a movie worth watching :)

Cool cool but how does she poop?

Also, does she eat other talking fish?

Visuals look nice.

Ariel looks good. Of course the trolls and other types flocked to the trailer to downvote, but that was to be expected on a reactionary platform like YouTube.

This actress is a great singer, and I'm not just going off the trailer. I donf know the rest of the cast but im down for her being there.

Hopefully this is more like the Jungle Book remake, which was legitimately fantastic.

I've missed most of the others though the reception ranges from ok to pretty weak. I saw Lion King and thought it was... fine. It just was a shot for shot remake lol

Looks shit, but I don't care what it does at the box office. I stopped caring for the box office, minus a few small movies, outputting this year.
