So it seems that my 4 or 5 year old computer is finally starting to give up. My monitor has loads of artifacts.
I switched off my monitor yesterday (but left the computer turned on) to go out for a little while. When I got back, moving the mouse/pressing the keyboard wouldn't turn the monitor back on so eventually I did a hard reset.
Resetting the PC made the monitor work again but with loads of artifacts across the screen. I restarted again and it seemed to cure it for a while, but eventually the artifacts returned and I was unable to move the mouse, so I had to hard reset again. The next few times I turned my PC on, it would be fine until opening a relatively intensive program (Chrome, WMP etc.), where it would crash and the artifacts would return.
I tried doing a system restore but I still have the same problem. It's got a lot worse now as well as it barely boots up before the artifacts return.
I'm guessing (hoping!) that it's just a case of a dead video card, but thought I'd check with you guys to make sure buying a new card wouldn't be a waste of time/money. If I just need to buy a new PC I'm not completely screwed but it isn't exactly ideal...
Oh, I had my PC on in the background while writing this post and it's now on a restart loop for some reason, and the artifacts are there from the start now. That can't be good.
