A release date for Tecmo Bowl Throwback has finally been set with the game arriving on XBLA and PSN next Thursday April 29th. It will sell for 800 MS points on the 360 and the equivalent $10 on the PS3.

Tecmo Bowl Throwback is a remake of Tecmo Super Bowl and contains the same rosters from 1993. The team and player names will be changed, due to the lack of NFL license, but the rosters will be identical in terms of player makeup. The game features the ability to play in updated “3D” or the retro “2D” modes and includes online multiplayer.

I know I should not care but there is still that small part of me that wants real teams and players. In the end game play matters most but still can't get past not having the license to include the names of teams and players.

Aw. Super Bowl is fine but I was hoping for a remake of the first. Won't matter for most people though.

Online mp should be awesome if all the ai fakeouts still work. :D

Yes. The 1993 SNES roster always seem more balanced than the 1991 NES roster. Online play might actually be fun with no Bo Jackson.
 
Tecmo Super Bowl NES was 1991 though, are we still not clear on which version this is?

DAY 1... can't wait! I'm gonna dig-up my college professors names and make my team again. It was so funny when Professor Hemmick would make a sack...
 
I've owned this version enough times. Give me an new version with current stats, online and updated 2D graphics. Doesn't need much else.

I dunno, people seemed to be okay with that price for 2 unenhanced ports last week. A full 3D remake for the same price seems fair to me.
 
I'm really excited about this game.

I could care less if the rosters are more like the NES vs. SNES versions, but I do care if they did something to address the NT issue.

It would be great if online they allowed for an option where you couldn't use the NT, because if they didn't, the game will be broken from the first download.

I'm sure most people who've played the older version locally usually played with the rule that you couldn't use the NT.

Today's draft day. This is pretty much when football has the most buzz around it in the offseason, aside from right before preseason.

You still have to deal with Barry Sanders in Tecmo Super Bowl, not as crazy as Bo, but still pretty ridiculous.

Yes, but the 1993 Lions suck. No other offensive threats and a mediocre defense.

The 1991 Raiders will tear you up even without Bo. The rest of the team is great aside from the QB.
 
Man, where are the impressions of the final game from hardcore fans of the old Tecmo Bowl games? Need to have an idea of how it stacks up to those that I'm sure a demo cannot fully reveal.

I'll be picking this one up at midnight tonight.

Get some games in with the Green Bay Apple Pies. Loving the new names thanks to no NFL license. Still hoping they did something to fix the NT problem.
 
Man this is a "good feeling" game, one of the few retro games that really hasn't aged at all. Still such a blast. If the NFL license is ever open again I really hope Tecmo jumps on and puts out another game like this for whatever consoles are in style at the time.

FYI, since you can edit team names and such, there's a roster guide on GameFAQs that has all the real names for the players that's extremely (if not perfectly) accurate:

almost lost my first game, because the other teams passing consisted of throwing to double covered wr's who then caught the ball. biggest bull shit game, but I still won:D

Also, add Jarate if you want someone to play with

Sweet! I never got into the original Tecmo Bowl series tho, maybe I'll give this one a try.
 
so glad they left the player numbers as is, makes renaming easy and worth it...
