Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Monday criticized those who have linked the deadly shooting at a Colorado Planned Parenthood clinic last week with anti-abortion rhetoric, arguing that most criminals are actually Democrats.

During a discussion of the shooting with Cruz, conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt said, "I have never met — not once — a single pro-life activist who is in favor of violence of any sort."

Cruz responded that he hadn't either.

"And I would note that this whole episode has really displayed the ugly underbelly of the media," Cruz said. "You know, every time you have some sort of violent crime or mass killing, you can almost see the media salivating hoping, hoping desperately that the murderer happens to be a Republican so they can use it to try to paint their political enemies."

"Now, listen, here's the simple and undeniable fact: the overwhelming majority of violent criminals are Democrats. The media doesn't report that," he continued.

Cruz said that Democrats are "soft on crime" and want to give convicted felons voting rights because they believe those individuals will vote Democrat. But he said the media fails to report on that.

"But you can see in every one of these — every time there's a terrible crime, they're so excited, come on, please, one of these be a Republican so we can try to paint the other side. It is one of the more egregious examples of media bias, and it's something we see over and over and over again," Cruz said.

(thanks to jmdajr for pointing this out)

You know - I'm not sure I disagree with his point, but there's a causation/correlation issue here. Would love to see the data.

You must love the irony of a group of people who posture themselves as strong and self-made (bootstraps!) while simultaneously playing the victim card at every possible opportunity.

and by love, I mean find incredibly irritating.

Even if it's true, they don't use their idealogy as a reason to inflict violence on others like conservatives do.

Republicans: Incite violence like the PP shootings, claim Democrats secretly wish the perpetrators are Republican.

Democrats: Try to dissuade against violence, but then aren't surprised when violence (especially gun violence) turns out to be from a conservative viewpoint.

I think I untangled the spool of bullshit.

I would imagine that most crime is by people who are economically challenged. Poorer communities tend to vote democrat. So while I could envision a scenario where what he's saying is factually true, what he's implying is as has been said, correlation vs causation.

This drives that point home:

Cruz said that Democrats are "soft on crime" and want to give convicted felons voting rights because they believe those individuals will vote Democrat. But he said the media fails to report on that.

You all know what he really wanted to say.

And this comes off of him saying, just yesterday: "No, uh, Robert Deer wasn't a man. He was a woman. Yeah, a woman did that. A woman liberal".

He's clearly trying to imitate Trump's strategy of simply saying he heard something or that something happens, we just never hear about it.

Because that shit is working.
