The most offensive thing about this movie thus far is the dialogue. I wouldn't say ive ever really been a ninja turtles fan so I guess I don't mind the changes to the story (however its still pretty dumb) but, the dialogue is seriously awful. I know its for kids but come on.

Even kids deserve better than this.

Do people not know that Baxter Stockman was a black scientist?
Don't worry, it's easier for people to remain ignorant about the characters in a movie instead of looking into who they could possibly be or the actual lore of the story. Any black actor that's in a white lab coat and smiles or acts even remotely giddy will be dubbed "The Nutty Professor" because it's an easy leap to make. Just like any blue-ish villain in a superhero movie will always be Ivan Ooze or a bald grey/green-ish monster will be Shrek or CG character from another movie.
I haven't seen the cartoon in 25 years and don't read comics. Geeze. I've seen the Eddie Murphy movies much more recently (15+ years ago) and Murphy's Nutty Professor is what immediately springs to mind. Don't blame me when the cartoon only showed his human character for less than an episode. I may be a fountain of pop culture knowledge but you can't expect me to remember what he looked like as a human for maybe 5 minutes total. The last time I saw a TMNT scientist was Secret of the Ooze where he was played by David Warner. So sorry.

They'll probably save his transformation for the third. Don't want too many villains at once. You never go full Spider-Man 3 or Batman and Robin.

And at least it's Bebop and Rocksteady this time instead of Tokka and Razar. My pre-teen self is really happy right now.

It somehow makes the super silly concept of a normal rat learning martial arts by watching his owner/master seem downright inspired.

It's funny that the '87 cartoon series had the best Splinter origin story up until the later cartoons. But yet the 1987 series was still the cheesiest of them all (maybe except for that lame live action TV show, and the Pizza Hut tour things).

Sorry, that wasn't aimed at you specifically. After re-reading what I wrote that came off as more combative than I wanted. There were plenty of other people that were doing the "Nutty Professor" comparison earlier in this thread and it just irked me. Hence my rant on the lazy comparisons made for other characters in movies from drive by posters.

That didn't make sense either. Why did he turn into a rat?

To be fair, he was white in the '87 cartoon.

Looks like a fun time. In.

I have to admit, that was far better than expected. I'm being cautiously optimistic. It certainly has a better tone to it, more fun and exciting, and I'm interested to see what Dave Green brings as a director (the previous guy, I thought, handled action kindly badly and the staging of the stuff in the trailer is already outclassing it).

Almost feels like a soft reboot in a way. It's strange that they're going with the cartoon Bebop and Rocksteady so literally but had to redesign the Turtles completely.

The director was born in 1983. He's an 80s kid. No doubt he's a fan hence why the likes of Baxter Stockman, Casey Jones, Bebop and Rocksteady are all in. Fanservice galore.

Now seeing Krang appear in the 3rd doesn't seem so unlikely anymore.

That didn't make sense either. Why did he turn into a rat?

It was the creature that he was in the most contact with before he found the turtles. Yeah it doesn't make any sense because they changed the rules of how the mutagen worked. Really, Splinter would have became a giant turtle too, since that is the last thing he was in contact with. But at least it explains how Splinter new martial arts.

Really? I wouldn't even have noticed. I can't recall his color but I very faintly remember watching his premier episode when it came out. Was he ever a human again on the show? Or just immediately fly.

I assume he's black in the comics. Wonder why he was whitewashed for the cartoon?

About the book. Let's keep in mind that the mutagen has made him anthropomorphic, smart, and strong/agile/athletic (Remember baby turtle Raph smashing the glass?). I don't think it's farfetched to think he is capable of learning a martial art by practicing every day for more than a dozen years as well as utilizing his mutagen-given abilities. I've likened it to your classic "find the secret scroll to unlock the super death punch" tropes. It's all just reading about the technique. Martial arts started somewhere.

Well then who is it? (Whoooooooo)
never gets old

I think he was human for at least half a dozen episodes or so. He was black in the original comic books, but they made him white for the '87 TV show because the writers felt that it would have been racist to see a black guy get ordered around by a white guy. Or at least that was their explanation. But that didn't make sense, Shredder was Japanese and voiced by Uncle Phil from the Fresh Prince.

In the current cartoon he was still human until a little past halfway through season 2
until Shredder got tired of his shit and detonated the mutagen collar he put on him
.
