TEKKEN 7 |OT| How I killed your mother

Playing through the story now. The narrator at the beginning of each chapter sounds like he's reading out a shopping list xD

My first tekken game and holy shit master raven has an overwhelming amount of options. I'm freaking out over the BT mixups. The only issue i'm seeing with her so far is her lows are pretty slow and unsafe. I just wish I understood tekken enough to use all these tools properly lol. There's so much to learn. Also crouch dashing feels weird on pad.

SOMEHOW I got lucky and managed to get a Ranked match connected, won both with my boy Dragunov. Very happy.

The load times are getting to me.

The lobbies are cancer because of this.

How is this possible ?

I have no idea. On top of player rematch, one of the things SFV got right was the preselect character and stage to help loading times.

It's like the devs never played any fighting game online ever and we're back 20 years back at launch.

We're doing Best of 7 in lobbies and no more than 3 per lobby to help a little.

Can someone explain the crouching down back and down forward moves to me? They are the only ones that I can't seem to get consistently. I can be holding db+3 and the regular d+3 will come out. Even the input shows me doing db+3 correctly. Is there some trick to it that I'm not getting?

You mean the ones with one white arrow? You're not supposed to hold the direction but tap it + button at the same time.

Handed off to my girlfriend for the special stage because I was getting frustrated and she eventually beat it! Glad to have that out of the way. What an awful piece of game design that is

Jun coming back after being dead missing for so long would be a huge plot development, so they'd probably have her as part of the main roster from the start and involved in the main story instead of just making her a random DLC extra.

Jun won't be back, she's been canon dead forever, same as Armor King. The only reason she was in TTT2 was that it was a 'Dream Match' sort of game.

Just play Asuka, she's better anyway.

3 bars is unplayable in this game for the PS4 version.

I'm playing with the same people from the west coast during TTT2 and the connection quality is magnitudes worse with this game.

At this point the whole argument about the PS4 version having a healthier community is a moot point if you're only limited to playing against people within your region. If your PC can handle this game that should be your only option.

The PS4 version is more accessible to the average player. And serious question, do you believe that are not gonna patch the online or something?

Game is super-fun online. Unless I run into a Kazuya/Heihachi/Devil Jin that can EWGF. No idea how to approach them.
I keep hearing how godlike/difficult EWGF is, as a newbie I just gave it a try. It's kinda ish like a DP motion which is cool. I might give Kazuya a go, I can do the move np which surprised me. Thought it be sone crazy ass king like inputs

Plus trenchcoats are badass lol

Doing one is no problem for me either. But 4 in one combo I can't do. Although very similar to DPs they have stricter timing.

Really struggle how to fight people that can do 3-4 EWGFs in one combo.

Just to be clear, an electric is a just frame version of this move. If you get the non-electric version it is much slower and not really that scary of a move.

Starting to figure out that my backdashing in online matches has been messing me up. Gotta practice actually blocking so I can punish properly.

I'll believe they'll patch it if they acknowledge it is a problem. So far they've only said matchmaking is a problem which is fine, but all I've been playing so far is lobbies which currently functions. But lobbies so far have only been playable with people within a ~800 km radius from my location. I haven't heard anything from Namco about fixing the actual netcode, just the "connection is lost" plague happening in ranked/player match.

They also never acknowledged the other common complaints about the lack of instant rematch in 2-man lobbies, reducing the PS4 input lag, improving console load times, or giving players the abilities to save replays either so I wouldn't assume they'll patch that in either.

Checking in as a Tekken rookie to hopefully encourage the other ones out there...

I have finally had some time to really sit down and play for hours without interruption, and have to say that this is a really fun game and I'm glad I bought it.

Having not played Tekken since the PSX, I spent quite a bit of time in training to get more familiar with the basics before jumping into Story Mode. It was overwhelming with the amount of characters and moves to learn, but I just needed to get a feel for things. Eventually I jumped into Story Mode because that would at least give me some characters to focus on and give me some actual fights. Overall, I found the campaign to be fairly frustrating. As someone who was trying to learn the ins and outs of the game, running into encounters that diminish core mechanics or outright counter them was extremely annoying. I eventually had to lower the difficulty all the way down just so I wouldn't break a controller. Ultimately it did hammer home some of the basic movement and spacing needs, but it was a relief to get that out of the way,

The search for a first main has been hard, simply because there are so many characters with their own nuances. Based on the Tekken 7 Character Overview video, I started with Lars and did some training and Treasure Battles before hopping online. It is really a bummer that the online is in its current state because I could really use consecutive matches. I eventually managed to get into a few tournaments and lose immediately, but it was fun to continue watching and see what people were doing to win. It helped me narrow down my playstyle and weaknesses, so I started looking for a new character to use and landed on Leo. After spending about 3 hours in Treasure Battle and getting some basic strings, pokes, and armor moves down I went back into a few Tournaments and got 2nd place twice in a row. Hoping a 1st place is in my near future.

It is extremely rewarding to feel the progress of getting better at the game, and as someone who isn't great at doing the big combos, I find that I can be pretty successful with just being smarter. Specifically, using strings that change up attack height, being more aware of what I want to do when I hit the ground, and using some quick attacks that get people out of my face. I'm not getting rushed down as much, getting obliterated when on the ground, or getting juggled for the entirety of a match. The allure of the big combo is real, but it doesn't feel necessary, and that revelation was a good thing for me.

tl;dr
The game is super fun and thanks to everyone in the Tekken community for creating tutorials, posting tips, and encouraging new players like me to stick with it. Loving the game so far.

Hey um, I have a question for you fightstick users out there: Does anyone know if a Madcatz xbox 360/pc Street Fighter IV Tournament Edition fightstick will work with Tekken 7? I'm considering picking one up from Craigslist but don't want to get screwed with a stick that doesn't work on mt pc.

Is there really no way to unbind the story assist button?
I would love to free up all the shoulder buttons so i don't have to use "tekken fingers" on my pad.

The game came out on Friday. It is now Tuesday. You are being unreasonable.

I think its a oversight in design atm. Basically the only time you can get out through menus is while people are waiting to confirm the next fight. Once they're locked in, everyone is. Kinda lame.

Gotcha. That would explain why I could back out during my match confirmation. They really need to fix that. In online fighting games I typically peace out when I'm ready while in the middle of spectating another match and the only way I can exit out is by forcing the game to close completely.

I am hopping between xbox one and pro versions due to the lack of mp atm, I am definitely noticing a slight sluggishness on the ps side. Feels a little crisper on xbox.

Netcode on PS4 version is way worse than PC in my experience. Every connection on PS4 feels like it's one bar worse than on PC. 5 feels like 4, 4 feels like 3.

PS4 version is disappointing on all fronts.

And? It doesn't take long to acknowledge that there is a problem.

I can't believe I am close to actually getting the platinum trophy in a Tekken game. I am only missing the one from training and the online ones.

I thought I was going to be ready for this since I play Karin in SFV. But nope, I can barely get the electrics like 1/10 times. I can do Karin's Just Frame so easily :(

Namco fighting games typically have very easy plats. I remember platnuming Tekken 6 and TTT2, as well as the 100% TTTHD port on Tekken Hybrid (No platinum in that game). Similarly, the Gundam Versus series and Soul Calibur V were easy IIRC. Soul Calibur IV predates the trophy system, but I have 100% on the 360 version, lol.

Man, Feng is a tough fight for me. I main Heihachi who seems to have pretty poor low responses as is. Does Feng have some low to mid hitting strings?

Pretty sure you can unbind that. Just go to the controller config and bind L1 (the default Story Assist button) to something else

I can rebind it but not unbind it like i can with the rage art button (r1). The story assist button just stays greyed out.
Edit: I guess i can try binding it to l3 to get it out of the way.
Edit2: Ok, figured it out. You can't select the story assist button while you are in a fight. You have to go to controller setup from the main menu. Thanks!
