TEKKEN 7 |OT| How I killed your mother

Man, Feng is a tough fight for me. I main Heihachi who seems to have pretty poor low responses as is. Does Feng have some low to mid hitting strings?

Feng only has one string that contains a low and it's not very scary, so just take it.

Feng does have a ton of strong low pokes and launchers though. Heihachi can punish them with while rising 1 into guaranteed qcf+2 follow up for a good chunk of damage.

Who needs second in command Raven when you have the Tiger knee Ninja

I was salty at missing out on the Eliza preorder but she made the pain go away, best new character

Somehow I never even tried to use Raven in T6 or TTT2, but M.Raven is suuuper fun, does absolutely crazy damage as well.

In case ya missed my last post, online PS4 do tournaments, worked for me almost every time I got into a tournament. Actually it was a great feature.

Uh this game is keep me up till 3AM with that, just one more game. Haven't dont that in year. Uh, need more sleep.

I keep hearing how godlike/difficult EWGF is, as a newbie I just gave it a try. It's kinda ish like a DP motion which is cool. I might give Kazuya a go, I can do the move np which surprised me. Thought it be sone crazy ass king like inputs

Plus trenchcoats are badass lol

Bear in mind there are two different versions of the move. You'll know if you got the good version if you see lightning flash around Kazuya.

If you got the easy/bad version of the move he won't flash, and it's punishable on block.

Checking in as a Tekken rookie to hopefully encourage the other ones out there...

I have finally had some time to really sit down and play for hours without interruption, and have to say that this is a really fun game and I'm glad I bought it.

Having not played Tekken since the PSX, I spent quite a bit of time in training to get more familiar with the basics before jumping into Story Mode. It was overwhelming with the amount of characters and moves to learn, but I just needed to get a feel for things. Eventually I jumped into Story Mode because that would at least give me some characters to focus on and give me some actual fights. Overall, I found the campaign to be fairly frustrating. As someone who was trying to learn the ins and outs of the game, running into encounters that diminish core mechanics or outright counter them was extremely annoying. I eventually had to lower the difficulty all the way down just so I wouldn't break a controller. Ultimately it did hammer home some of the basic movement and spacing needs, but it was a relief to get that out of the way,

The search for a first main has been hard, simply because there are so many characters with their own nuances. Based on the Tekken 7 Character Overview video, I started with Lars and did some training and Treasure Battles before hopping online. It is really a bummer that the online is in its current state because I could really use consecutive matches. I eventually managed to get into a few tournaments and lose immediately, but it was fun to continue watching and see what people were doing to win. It helped me narrow down my playstyle and weaknesses, so I started looking for a new character to use and landed on Leo. After spending about 3 hours in Treasure Battle and getting some basic strings, pokes, and armor moves down I went back into a few Tournaments and got 2nd place twice in a row. Hoping a 1st place is in my near future.

It is extremely rewarding to feel the progress of getting better at the game, and as someone who isn't great at doing the big combos, I find that I can be pretty successful with just being smarter. Specifically, using strings that change up attack height, being more aware of what I want to do when I hit the ground, and using some quick attacks that get people out of my face. I'm not getting rushed down as much, getting obliterated when on the ground, or getting juggled for the entirety of a match. The allure of the big combo is real, but it doesn't feel necessary, and that revelation was a good thing for me.

tl;dr
The game is super fun and thanks to everyone in the Tekken community for creating tutorials, posting tips, and encouraging new players like me to stick with it. Loving the game so far.

I agree with all of this (well, except the part about improving rapidly, because I def am taking more time to get there). Community seems great and helpful, and I think internalizing what you said about strings was really the key for me: slowing down, thinking and reacting.

This is the most fun I've had with a fighting game since... Forever.

I don't know what it is but this is the only fighting franchise that clicks with me.

Yeah I am getting a bunch of blue lightning each time and a cool craxcling sound effect. I am actually really liking a Mishima, Dragunov still my main atm but Kazuya my 2nd in training.

Absolutely. Slowing things down was huge for me.

Initially I was just trying to get as many hits in as possible or use all the different strings I learned, but I realized how much that was opening me up to get wrecked. I was just spamming moves rather than thinking about how I should apply them.

Once I really focused on forcing myself to observe, block, and create openings for strings that were actually going to be effective in the moment, I immediately improved. I'm definitely not good at the game yet, but I feel like I've started to better understand how the game works and what it takes to get good.

The problem I'm still having is figuring out exactly what to do when I'm not trying to counterhit. For instance, I successfully block something, then backdash to get some space between us. Now what? Do I wait for him to whiff on something? Or should I be poking? I understand all of this is situational and there are no universal answers, but I think I'm just having difficulty with the 'in-between' times.

Such a pleasant feeling when you've learned how to deal with the stuff that your opponent kept mixing up between because they don't actually know how to play the game.

Dragonuv's string that ends with a low or a low grab? low crush or block if you have a read. Suddenly they got nothing.

Doing Devil Jin's hopkick into fly into divekick? Just hit them out of the air with Katarina's db+4 or u/f+3+4. Suddenly they got nothing.

I've missed this feeling, haven't felt it in over a year.

I wish 2-person player match lobbies were more popular. I got in one last night and it was easily the most productive 30 minutes I've had in the game so far, I felt I was losing less and less worse as time went on. Seems most people prefer to host and join 4+ player lobbies though. With the load times and general downtime between matches that's a brutal experience for anyone but the king of the lobby IMO.

Is it the original TE? I recently bought one second hand and Windows 10 automatically recognizes it, zero hassle. I don't have Tekken 7 on the PC, but every fighting game I do own on PC works like a charm with it. I imagine Tekken 7 is no different.

As a newcomer to the series this is where I'm at currently, except as the person setting up the 50/50s. Coming from a lot of experience with 2d fighters I was able to pick up Eliza and instantly start doing pretty well.

Currently still climbing at Fighter rank but I really need some longer sets to be forced to adapt once the opponent learns how to block the mix-ups. Really surprised at how high damage is in this game. It feels like I can usually end the round off of one knockdown and one or two 50/50s on wakeup.

Wish 2 player lobbies were more popular as 2 games really isn't enough time for someone to adapt.

Yea, I think it is the OG TE. Thanks.

She strongly reminds me of Ibuki, my favorite SF ninja. Never liked Raven's moveset though...but her moveset is quite different, right?

Her moveset is identical, lol. She has some new moves because it's a sequel, but she is literally just Raven made female.

Which is fine by me, since he was my favorite character and I'm always game for legit black women in fighters.

This is probably going to sound absurd to some of you but I literally haven't played Tekken since Tekken 2 on PSX :/

Is Tekken 7 a good place to jump in?

the game has only gotten better, yet still hasn't changed much, which is pretty neat. Jump in, you'll have a lot of fun.

I only played Tekken 3 and Death by Degrees and this game is F-U-N. The gameplay is just so satisfying, music is amazing and there's so much depth and variety.

Does anyone have advice on how to nail the →☆ ↓↘ inputs? I'm having a tough time timing out the break between the first and second presses. I practiced for like 15 minutes in training mode and I could still only get it once out of like 10 or 11 times.

Akuma scrub here trying to pretend this game is Street Fighter. Any guides on optimal punishes and whiff punishes?

Are you trying to do the Mishima EWGF? You hit forward, release completely, and then immediately hit DF+P.

Its relatively the most accessible Tekken in forever.

T6 and, especially TTT2, were far less fun places for beginners.

Jump in.Fun story too.

Didn't see this before, once PS4 online is smooth out there are Corporate sponsored ONLINE regional Championships. So nice now many more people can participate.

https://youtu.be/Ip0nlICd8kY

More acceible to us normal Joes, I wonder if PC, PS4, Xbox will all have their own online tournament?

So, question for those who've beat the story.

Is Akuma actually meant to fucking beat you in the bonus chapter? Because I've gotten him to within one inch of his life left, but then he goes super saiyan and beats the shit out of me and it's frustrating the fuck out of me

Need closure on Julia lei Anna and zafina still. Are they dead lol :-(.

When the PC datamine thread shows the season pass outfits already being locked on the disc & shows files for a guest character to be released in winter 2017 and nothing about the characters you mentioned, you really should get the hint by now. ;)
