TEKKEN 7 |OT| How I killed your mother

First impressions. Character select screen makes me angry. Tekken Tag 2 to this. WHERE IS EVERYBODY?!

TBF this was always going to be the case. The tag games are non cannon and are meant to be dream match games so they can bring in whoever, regardless if they're dead or not. Also both tag games had the benefit of having a prior Tekken (3 and 6) to build off of and easily port characters from.

I guess you could say all the copies were...puts on some goofy sunglasses and a Dig Dug banner...Tekken

~crickets~

I'll see myself out

Nah, you're good. I applaud that kind of boldness.
Played a little this morning. I do wish this game had a tutorial as it's been a very long time since I've played a Tekken game and I'm always a scrub. Going to hit up some videos, I guess. My daughter is all in to play because a character in this game shares her name.

Played for the first time last night.

Wow NAMCO did a great job! Graphics (PS PRO 4K) looks great, the fighting gameplay is just ridiculous-good for a fighter. (After 20 years of refinement it should be) and I was just in practice mode! Lol

A difference in this new version I noticed right away is gameplay is it's much faster, and sooo much better playing at a faster speed. Makes the matches intense.

Very excited to get home tonight and play some story mode and online matches. HYPED

TTT2 is a tag game, ofc it would have more characters because it's a 2v2 fighting game. Going from 2v2 to 1v1 the character list will inevitably smaller. See TTT1 character list vs T4. Or any other fighting game franchise where the format is 2v2 or higher vs their 1v1 franchise(i.e. CvS, KOF, SFxT etc.)

So Tekken 8 will be Jin's redemption arc as he helps Lars & Co. clean up his T6 mess (from baiting out Azrael) & take out Kazuya?

Man... so I'm derping around in player match now and like...

Matchmaking is hella slow:

-someone needs to accept the connection, which takes forever for some reason
-there's a loading screen, which takes forever for some reason
-It seemingly takes forever to find a match in quick match, so I should probably go to player list

Just get me in the game coach ;_;

Nothing wrong with scaling back. I have heard people say that just looking at the Tag 2 character select screen was too intimidating.

For a moment I thought you were talking about the music in the select screen, lol

Yeah, the netcode is solid, but actually getting into matches is terrible right now.

To be fair, this is an entirely new engine. The only reason the roster is even this big now is because Namco was able to update the arcade version for years before hitting consoles.

That game's mechanics were too intimidating :v

In this game, I just whiff punish with rage arts :v

*even if it doesn't kill, which is probably a shitty use of the resource

Spoiler alert:

there are no rooms in player match

Anna and Zafina are missed. But I'll make by with Josie and Katarina. I'm shocked at how easy to use a lot of the new characters are.

I think the new characters being easy to learn was part of the larger goal by Harada of making the game more approachable in order to expand their audience.

Of course, the new characters don't offer much for people like me who prefer more complex characters. Which is made worse as they removed Lei from the game.

While movement is still pretty hard, I noticed that waking up doesn't seem as miserable as it used to be because you seem to be relatively ok even if you mash random shit since it seems like people wake up in a way that's a bit harder to just tag.

At least, this is what it has felt like so far.

Whiff punishing with Rage Arts only to have it blocked is the most Nep thing to do. Not even Tekken-chan would waste a risky resource!

This has actually happened lol

I recently macroed the command in hopes that this wouldn't happen anymore >_>

EDIT:

But yeah, blocking is the only way to beat it right?

Armor on the move is like... kinda funny.

Like, I don't know why it was designed like this funny.

I kind of miss the slightly more restrained visual style of Tekken 3,4 and Tag 1.

So Tekken 8 will be Jin's redemption arc as he helps Lars & Co. clean up his T6 mess (from baiting out Azrael) & take out Kazuya?

I thought Tekken 7 was the last one(I wasn't following that closely) but apparently not.

On paper they're taking things to there inevitable conclusion but I wish they'd hire a better writer like they did for Tekken 4.

It's like that in every single fighting game thread. They're trying to be helpful, but for a beginner? LOL no.
It's just the nature of the forum, you're going to have people from a lot of different skill levels.

If you guys are interested in learning, then just ask. This stuff looks more difficult than it actually is.
If you did not pre-order, she'll be available after 30 days, I think?
Yup yup.

This link should help: http://www.tekkenzaibatsu.com/legend.php

An underscore just means "or", so essentially there are two versions of inputs for that move (for example Akumer's fireball would be qcf+1_qcf+2).

Thanks for that link.

So bear with me here. b+1,[4] would be back and punch at the same time, and then if you see it hits you can press right kick to do some more damage. I would assume that's what hit confirmable means; a quick or easy move you can do to see if you opponent gets baited in by it, and if he/she does, you can turn that into more damage or a long combo? Not sure what CH combo is though.

The jukebox is super disappointing. I was hoping to be able to make a Playlist out of Tekken 3 Arranged tracks. Instead my only hope is to shuffle and hope it plays one occasionally.

CH means Counter Hit. Moves get more damaging and often more juggling properties if you land a Counter Hit.

Counter Hit is when your move hits them while they're still in the startup of their own move. There are characters that have gameplans that revolve around this.

Who seriously cares about the lore in a tekken game. I know I never have.

Should have just brought more characters over.

Like I said, this is a thing for any 2v2 or more fighting game vs their 1v1 counterpart. You need more characters to choose from in a 2v2 format so of course it will have more characters than a 1v1 game.

Man Lili looks weird in this new artstyle :/

The new dress with the fluffy thing around her hands?

I kind of wish they would add the arcade boot up greeting onto the console when you open the game and get to the Main Menu.

"GOOD MORNING!"

Right, back + 1 with an optional 4 follow-up.

Hit confirm in context of Tekken is generally where you have a string where say the first one or two hits are safe on block and the third is not, but there is enough hitstun where you can not input the third button unless you visibly see them get hit by the first two instead of having them blocked.

CH stands for counter-hit; a lot of moves in Tekken gain properties only if they counter-hit the opponent (hitting while the opponent is in the active/recovery frames of their own move). For example a lot of attacks will only launch or knockdown on CH. It is a large part of the general game plan, with some characters being pretty focused on scoring counter-hits like Steve.

I so love the fact that everyone speaks their native languages. Really makes the characters feel more real and personal.

Which reminds me, Lili's voice is lovely.
