I don't remember if this was street fighter iv or tekken 6, but there should be an auto block option.
It wasn't rocket science, to be fair. The main menu telegraphs exactly that.

Any word on how to unlock special costumes like Heihachi and Nina's story mode outfits?
None, all the CG budget went into the story mode.
Even the intro movie is stuff from story mode.

They're somewhat melded into the character stories - a few of them have a 'Tekken Ending' feel, but most don't.
But yeah, no CG cutscenes to cap off arcade mode.

I beat arcade mode with king and didn't get one.
Dammit, that's lame. The silly ending cutscenes are one of my favorite things in the series. I'd rather have a scaled down story mode since I don't care much about the story, though I guess i'm in the minority.
Just do it like me, beat arcade mode with the character then go do it's character story, it makes you feel like you accomplished something rather than doing one match then story.

I understand the reason for the option to cancel but I'd rather it just not be in. It's been impossible for me to find matches all day.
If the only information available is connection then I'm fine with it.

On the story and why I didn't like it:
tl;dr, cool fights, mediocre story with too many flipflops.
- Akuma was cool from a normal perspective, but made no sense in the story. "Yo like she saved me once or something or maybe I like her?" His inclusion felt so flimsy. Would have liked them to go further with it. But while cool, felt pointless.
-Hei. Trying to make him a hero at the end. Dude has been a dick for years and his biggest goal was getting the devil gene, but now he's all like "nah I wanna end it g". Most of the games were about him trying to figure out a way to splice that power into himself. He even says this in 4 point blank. Now he just wants to stop Kaz?
- SIdelining Jin. Yeah you made him too powerful. I get it. But having him out like that was lame.
- Hei's backstory was good, actually! Problem was, Kazumi's part felt silly. Did she really love him or was it all to get rid of him?
- Clad. They went through the trouble of introducing this character that could suppress the devil gene and cool shit like that because he's a bleach character, but they just use him to run a social media account. Even he was shocked when they booted him out the story.
-Why didn't Kaz and Hei fight this seriously before? I know Hei wanted Kaz's DG before killing him and Jin, but they met up in 4 and their battle didn't even go that hard pre-Jacks flying in.
-The character stories in general were awful. Half of them had nothing to do with anything, and only a small fraction felt like they had a real outcome for future games/it being obvious who won. While SFV had still pictures, at least most of them had relevancy to the story and decent character interaction. This one had like seven seconds per character.
- The ending battle was great. So was the result. But It feels like the end of the mishima legacy was bullshit since Kaz and Jin are still around. Yeah Jin ain't full Mishima but he might as well be one.
-Watching the trailers again, most of them spoil the entire goddamn plot of the story. It's crazy how much I already saw. Kinda regret that lol

Arguably you're getting that too, compared to previous series efforts.
There are still silly endings. Paul and Law of course as well as Kuma and Panda endings....oh, and definitely check out Asuka's ending :O
But yeah, I kind of prefer them being tied to arcade mode rather than just having them in the story mode behind one fight.

Both Asuka and Bob are good starting characters with different playstyles (Bob is a rushdown, while Asuka is a turtle)

I loved the story mode, I wish Namco had someone around who could screen test this stuff before they green light it. You would make for an excellent story critic. The logic you used is just so damn great but also common sense. It seems as if Namco had plans and had to scrap all those threads due to budget or time. Maybe they have plans to finish fleshing this story out... or maybe not. We'll see. Good read but spoilers.

terrible online decisions + ridiculously long loading times is not a good combination.
I think a lot of the reason why this happened is due to the fact that they're setting up T8 or a T7.5 and they had to find a way to do that while also moving the story along. Akuma's inclusion (he'll be in T8 given Kazuya's still alive) and the fact that he didn't really get into detail, also along with the fact he's very popular in this game, just shows he'll be in the next one. Kazuya and Heihachi, their whole thing has been happening way more than Jin's so having them get theirs out of the way first makes sense. Jin not being in the spotlight is just like Vince McMahon taking the belt off his lead guy during a part of the year to give others some shine. If Jin could have taken care of everything himself then the others wouldn't have shined like they did in today's game. Same with Claudio and a lot of stuff honestly. I feel what you mean about SFV's side-stories.

I do like that they seem to be on it pretty quickly though. They definitely are making sure concerns are heard.
- At the end of 4 he got double-clobbered by the Devil Kaz and Jin, then in 5 had to stop his own Devil-possessed dad. Pretty sure he'd be sick of the Devil business by then. He only wanted immortality, hence in TTT2 he switched to some Bear-related treatment to comical effect. BTW I'm assuming the Blood Vengeance OVA is non-canon lol.
- I think the tone of the series went comedic after 4 plus the designers didn't want to retire the popular Mishimas yet.

Ha, it's mostly because I like fighting game lore. So I try to keep up with stuff. To their credit, it's harder than, say, SFV, who can just make shit up all day because that game's canon is fill-in-the-blanks, but that means when you try hard, you get judged harder.
This is true, Seems like a midway point for things. I think they could have used even an hour more to fleh out a few things or replace a few parts. I think if the story were framed like that before release, people probably wouldn't be so disappointed.
Yeah, but that's what I mean. He was fiending for that DG stuff, and even if he was sick of it, there should be some indication in this game. Just seemed like he was suddenly done with it with no passover. Like maybe have him mulling over how that shit changes a person and how it's impossible. I think this is more so a problem of a previous game not having him experiment with it enough rather than this one, but the results are still annoying.
And that's what retcons are for, but when those happen ya gotta be real careful about how you play that shit. They probably could have used a few better lead ins or reasons to duke it out all the way at the end there.
