Tencent is looking to buy Ubisoft

There is no solution with Ubisoft aside laying off tons of people. If you are bigger than EA + T2 combined while making a fraction of their revenue and profits, your size is a problem.

First you're going to have to explain what "female Mike Tyson is", but if it's that cherry picked star wars Outlaws screen grab then I dont think you have much substance to that criticism.

And no, I'm not speaking about characters appearances that all when I'm talking about worse. I'm talking about "your game will potentially have Spyware in it " worse.

They used their both dei braincells to make sure female protag is strong and independed, nothing was left for semi realistick animations, hell it takes 2seconds of thinking to figure out she could use some knife/dagger and shove it into enemy necks and it already would look/feel 10x less cringe.
Imagine in big budget SW licenced project no1 from the dev team even came up with such a simple solution like that, those exces sucking mega salaries yet are total useless.

And yup, even in disney's era SW we can easily spot vibroblades being used.

Chinese company propaganda tool for china.

Western company propaganda tool for LGBTQ++++++++.

Either way we're fucked.

CCP bans everything that goes "progressive" in its soil, but "promote" it on the west, could it be?

The only thing I know working like that is TikTok being absolute trash filled with girls with daddy issues getting mad unhinged, but the app being regulated in China avoiding all that stuff

The amount of talent - and market access - Ubisoft would offer should make it a target of every major gaming company (EA, Take Two, Microsoft, Sony, Epic, etc.). The potential upside is huge if the acquirer can turn them around.

Firing 30-40% of the staff would definitely make Ubisoft this year's leader... just not in the category they would like to be in. ;)

All but guaranteed the Mickey Mouse kills were a mandate from Disney. They ain't gonna allow throat stabs in Star Wars.

So if Tencent buy Ubi and there is a future Assassin's Creed set in China, will it also have a black main character?

20,000 jobs hang in the balance, does Tencent have a history of cleaning house or steamlining? I honestly have no idea. You would think they would need to restructure some of that bloat.
Scarey times ahead if you work for Ubisoft.

There is no version of events where people don't get lay off. Ubisoft as a company is as bloated as their sandbox games. They need to reduce drastically in size and with games flopping and stock crashing that will probably happen anyway.

I won't be surprised with a 50+% cut in personel.

China preserving their society but happy to ruin the west.

I was just thinking the other day how it's kinda weird how the big 3rd party dev/pubs have all kinda shriveled up in their own weird ways.

In the mid 00's EA, Ubi and ATVI were giants. Making all kinda of games across many genres.

Now EA makes Sims & Sports games, Ubi makes the same game w/ different skins, and ATVI makes call of duty.

CoD is still a powerhouse but the other 2 are really a shadow of their former selves considering how much clout and marketshare they _used_ to have

So Bloomberg could just have made up this entire thing as far as we know...
Bloomberg is well known for making up entire things if you actually follow them and read their articles

That said, the Guillemot Brothers can't be happy with the current state of the company and could be looking for financial support and acquisition of a majority stake and delisting from public markets could really be on the table

Hmm, chinese overlords in exchange for burning DEI, I'll take it.

Yeah, that's a ridiculous way of looking at it. It's simply trading one absolute shitfest for another.

If Ubisoft's current output of bland, corporate, ideologically driven slop stops me ever buying any of their games, then being bought by the spyware and communist propaganda kings of the universe ain't getting me to part with my money any fucking quicker.

Interesting that people are so frustrated with western developers that there's actually some excitement for Tencent to purchase them. 2-3 years ago this would be unheard of.

I'm neutral on the news. On one hand, I hate the trajectory of current day Ubi left to their own devices. Tencent might actually course correct some of the more recent shitty Ubi decisions in the name of actually making a profit.

On the other hand, Tencent shoes in just the worst monetization everywhere they go.

I think after weighing things out, I'm for it. Current Ubi is just too fucked for me to be optimistic about them, despite having some great IPs.

U might believe it or not, but feminism penetrated china too, many of their women are/wanna be independend boss babes and chose career path instead of focusing on family like it should be in healthy society, their birthrate is down big time too nowadays =D

Big difference and for the worse is- its tradition there to offer ur future wife dowry/house/decent car so basically 90-95% of chinese young men(20-35yo) are priced out of the market ;p

Another thing- they got a name for older single women who didnt get married- they call them leftower women https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheng_nü
And ad 2 to 2 aka chinese traditions + their women poisoned with feminist mindset(that obviously is one big lie;p), and there u go, stuff like this happens there now:

Not trying to whitewash the CCP, but that channel is Falun Gong propaganda.

Plenty more stuff like that on yt bro, its hard to hide actual reality in todays day and age, hell u can even check american dating podcasts, plenty chinese emigrant women there saying exactly the same thing- they emigrate coz of much higher salaries and much lower competition from western women(u saw vids, compare them to US women looks and there u go;p).
As a contrast- did u notice US women never emigrtate anywhere? They simply arent competetive enough vs local women around the world, age/mindset/looks(including major obesity problem) are huge part of it.

What has dating to do with the Ubisoft buyout?

One of the guys here mentioned ccp bans everything that is progressive, so i replied with proof, that feminism and its effects aka low birthrates are now in china despite ccp efforts, its bit offtopic now so i will shush :)

The Chinese will probably treat Japan with the same amount of respect so I don't see much change in the future.
Wouldn't be so sure about that. Even with all the deep and complex conflicts between these different Asian nations, there's still quite a strong sense of shared identity between them, just like among the European nations. I don't think Chinese decision makers would conciously portrait a fellow Asian nation through the lense of a Western (woke) racist.

4sure, they know japanese culture 100x better than bunch of DEI parasites who live in western country- ubi employes :) For example they wouldnt chose/aprove black male protag going like a tank and commiting massive japanese genocide like it currently looks in AC:S.

Some people will happily take software that spies on them and scrapes their devices for information, and they'll pay to do it.

And they'll call it a victory because they didn't think the character in the last game was pretty enough. 😂

"Better" is tough to answer, but they definitely will revive some IPs

Chinese doesn't let opportunities lost
I've just had a look at their games on their site and i don't share your optimism, there is a lot of Mobile and online games there and nothing that would tell me or suggest they could make a really good Assassin's Creed or Far Cry, i guess time will tell.

Looool wut?!?

China has no interest in burning DEI and far left identity politics in the West. China in fact is heavily invested in it, because it weakens western men, creates fragile sensibilities, and distracts everyone from the slow erosion of western power China is currently accumulating on the world stage.

Among the dumb takes this is probably the worst. You can't say this with a straight face while having Google, Meta and Amazon reading and listening to everything you do and telling YOUR government —you know, the one who can actually fuck you up—, not China's.

Everyone spies on each other nowadays. The only relevant thing is who can mess with you. It was our governments who locked us up during Covid, not China's.
