The biggest selling factors here personally are Tesla's #1 safety rating and cost of repair.

Compared to the 2170 cell probably. It's not a 5-6x improvement in kWh per kg, which would be flying car territory.

I don't like Tesla's designs (everything looks like a child's drawing of a fish or the cybertruck), but I like the newest rendition of the model s. It's sort of strange to have a tech company do cars, because as a quiet car guy, outside of the torque acceleration, the Teslas don't do it for me. There's something to be said for the joy of the sound of combustion engines.
OTOH, advances in battery tech are very important for all tech and I support that.
The interesting thing is how the new battery tech comes into play for conversions. Imagine if you could do an ICON-like project but without the insane cost.

Probably the right timing for me to pickup a Tesla in Australia (2-3 years off), they're pretty pricey down here still. I want to get a Powerwall for my house solar I've got already before I get a Tesla too.

25k for fully autonomous vehicle in a few years... that's crazy. Considering they're the only company on earth (seemingly) on track to deliver that, the lofty valuation doesn't seem so lofty after all. Hopefully stock will drop a bit more, I can buy a bit more and lower my DCA slightly.

Will they show the Tesla Garbage Truck? I think people have shown patience through this battery change and are able to drive Tesla, what's Tesla's concerns? We'll see if they continue with batteries I don't think people are over anxious about Tesla products

So every site I look up says Battery Day under delivered. I disagree and think that what they showed is beyond what I could imagine. I am not an electrical/chemical engineer but I have followed the development of batteries closely. To see these types of breakthroughs is revolutionary.
Is the negativity because many of these ideas will take some time to ramp up to full production, or am I misinformed and over hyping the breakthroughs? Or is it just that the media is trash.... I think it is the latter but i would like to hers Gaf's opinion.

It's not glamorous or easily hypable, but from an engineering standpoint you're on the money. What they demonstrated will without exaggeration change the world as we know it. They have a ground-up redesign of the lithium ion cell and a massively more efficient method of manufacturing it, which will allow them to produce at scale and serve the global population.
What are electric cars? Battery packs on wheels. Efficiency, power output, and cost of these battery cells determine everything else about EVs.
