Tesla Sales Fall In Germany After Musk Backs Far Right

Tesla sales in Germany recorded another drop last month, official data showed Wednesday, after billionaire owner Elon Musk vocally backed the far-right AfD during the country's recent election campaign.

Just 1,429 of the US group's electric vehicles were registered in Europe's biggest auto market in February, down over 76 percent year-on-year, the KBA federal transport authority said.

It's pretty interesting, no shade at any Americans reading this, but the negative sentiment that Donald and Co are whipping up has led to levels of unification in the press and political parties here in the UK that I would never have expected.

I thought that Trump's victory would see US stock/businesses soaring, but it looks quite a lot like some people are going to try and avoid American businesses where there are other choices available as a way of rejecting some of the things that are being said in the Oval Office.

He has moved on and no longer cares about Tesla. It's a bizarre situation the company may be wanting to push him out because it's hard for me to see him changing anything over it.

As the arbiter of what will get locked or not, so far this is a financial thread and less of a political thread. But no doubt GAF will turn it into a politics thread.

Would be interesting what other brands sell better than Tesla. Also the company has not impoved thse years their cars are basically they same.
 
I'm surprised shareholders and the board are allowing the CEO to tank the stock because this is just the short-term consequence and it will be a bigger hit across all of Musk's affiliated companies.

TSLA is still up based on the 1 year chart but the damage is still ongoing.

I believe it's this. He's achieved a position of actual political power that he can leverage for big contract monies with SpaceX. Tesla has become an afterthought, and I'm sure the board wants him gone considering his current trajectory is a PR nightmare for them.

i knew trump being back would be a disaster. didn't expect it to be this bad. i don't dislike the american people...except those that voted for Donald Duck and those who refused to vote at all. have fun i guess? there are still lots of americans who hate him and what their country is becoming.

going forward i aim to cut as much USA shit out of my life as possible. it's difficult and impossible in some situations but we can do it gradually with tiny changes. i wanted to visit the USA again but i won't be going back for many years if i ever go back at all.

i'm quite impressed by Keir Starmer and how he's stood up in the last week or so to defend ukraine and rebuild relations with our european neighbours. brexit was a disaster and i hope there are calls for us to rejoin. we need to build a stronger europe. if american wants to isolate themselves and burn bridges then let them.

like the decline of the british empire i think we might just be seeing the start of the downfall of the US as a superpower.

Personally I think Keir is a disaster. Also think the Tories in London were so bad at their job and actually protecting the British people that the British people went out and elected an even worse government in labor. Keir proclaiming free speech while we see people get visited and arrested by the police for posting a meme or a statement online is laughable. He can be proud of their history of it, but that what it is, history. You protect the speech you don't like because that is the speech that matters. You don't have to agree, but it should be available for people to say.
 
No one is gonna be able to compete with those Chinese robo-factory made EVs if they are allowed to be on your market.

ALL car manufacturers will fall to that, unless they follow suit and transition away from human factories as well or just make them alongside those same chinese cars.

Elon undoubtedly sees a future where local production is highly favored over imports and is trying to position himself within that space. Alas I think robo-factories will dominate everywhere, even in cheap labor regions, so better brush up on your joint lubrication and camera alignment skills 'cause servicing the robots will be the only (manufacturing) game in town :P

You don't think that it's a totally possible future scenario that ALL countries have high tariffs and thus Tesla, with a gigafactory in Germany, would be in a good position if/when a more restrictive government policy comes in?

Elon is gambling on this, I think, and is using his leverage in the social media sphere to enhance his businesses. Certainly his experience in the US shows that while folks might hold their nose, they still buy Teslas. It's also really just a matter of time before all the other manufacturers 'catch up' to Tesla so I'm not sure Elon personally sees that company in as high a value as folks might think. SpaceX is probably a much richer breadbasket over time and one with a lot less competition. Might take a few years to see if the gamble 'paid off' in the EU.

Imho that has already happened. Both the chinese as well as the germans absolutely have no issue competing with Tesla on a technological level, the chinese will keep increasing their battery technology dominance and the germans are alrady close to getting their "best complete package" crown back but still struggle with their margins/pricing.
Tesla has ...Elon, and that`s pretty much their only "standout" right now. Good/okay cars, but that`s about it and the "Pioneer-Fame" is waning.
The next big thing that will probably reshuffle everything is the race to true level 5. Whover gets there first will literally print money.

The US has no innovation... Other countries' electric cars have more innovation, longer charges, etc than Tesla. It's sad.

I'm a federal employee and it won't say more than cyber security, but it's insane to me to be on the receiving end of this guys bullshit. Shitbag and Fuckface are dismantling the government indiscriminately and it's causing A LOT of grief.

I work for the federal government because I believe in the mission and so does everyone else I work for so FUCK. THEM. And everything they stand for. I hope the stock drives even more down. The fact I went from steadily employed to potentially not having a job at the end of the month because he's cutting funding in weird places is driving me nuts.

Tesla had its moment as a spearhead to drive EV adoption and charging network infrastructure. Now competition is doing everything Tesla was doing better and cheaper, piggybacking off Tesla's charging infrastructure, while Tesla is burdened by its old non-competitive models, complete missteps like Cyberstuck, poor quality control and aftersales, and a retard as a CEO. Technologically speaking it's like Nokia - once, an undisputed market leader worldwide, but then Android and iOS happened and crushed Nokia across the spectrum from low to high end.

Robotaxis and FSD, on which most of the current valuation is contingent on, simply can't and won't work and live up to Musk's promises with Tesla's tech. It's a literal technological impossibility, but the market just gobbles up Musk's wild promises asking for seconds.

TSLA has been nothing more but a bubble that has just been waiting to pop for a long time.

I agree that the messaging of this has been atrocious, but the job has to be done, so much bloat and waste we can't afford anymore.

Problem is the fed is in cardiac arrest, the current admin is about to give it a shock jolt, and we will just have to wait and see what happens next...

And besides that part of the value is the long term "Bet" they'll be the first company to figure out how to do a self driving car and then sell that software to everybody else. (I've said this before most people here in the US would rather do anything else besides drive and they're absolutely terrible at it. I can give tons of examples if people want me to bore them.) Anyway if they're the first ones to figure it out they'll make bank. (But who knows how far away it is.)

Dude look how much the actual budget for federal employees is vs total spending. This is about sending a message, nothing more. Bill Clinton did a similar clean up that wasn't indiscriminately attacking federal employees. They went after the FAA because they kept Elon in check and they're desperatly TRYING to get people back because flying right now isn't safe. They've let probationary employees back with back pay at other branches.

What I do is literally supporting the warfighter DIRECTLY to the point some of the programs and work I've done has reached other military bases the past year but me and thousands of others are on the chopping block "just because" to appease people who don't know how shit works? We literally need more money and staff than people on the outside think we do, me and my immediate co worker need 2 more people on the cyber side of things to smoothly handle the work load.

The amount of money we send to Israel alone would offset what he and people THINK will do by firing people. These stunts are already costing taxpayers millions with zero results except dead bodies from plane incidents and public embarrassment.

And you think the job market is tough now? I hate to break it to you all, but it's going to get more competitive. The standards the federal government have are as high, if not higher, than FAANG companies. As shitty as it is me and plenty others won't have a problem finding a job because since this news happened about cuts I've lost count how many text, phone calls, emails and LinkedIn and indeed messages I've received from companies trying to poach me and my other co-workers.


Be careful what you wish for, this has trickling effects you can't imagine.

Yeah I think they total self driving is quite a ways off but we have a lot of new cars that are self driving on the interstates and they actually do quite a good job
