Its a major award!
I'm happy Skyrim won. It's probably my biggest happy surprise this year.
How are you surprised knowing it was nominated before the game was released? It was fucking obvious knowing that it'd win.

How did people not stand up and leave the instant that happened. Dear god.
As for winning an award here, I'm happy because I liked the game, and look at it this way -- better a singleplayer open-world RPG winning over say, a Call of Duty game, at least in my opinion.

He was obviously drunk. Too much partying, Hideo!
I don't get the tea-bagging stuff...
Zelda was nominated too before release....THE FIX IS IN!
the reviewers that voted for goty had skyrim and zelda review copies already
W...wow. So the Modern Warfare-guys wasn't aware of the tea-bagging thing? They basically had a dude there who timed the speeches so that if they ran too long - and thus deprived us of more adverts and silly skits - he'd tackle them and tea-bag them. It only happened once, thankfully, so we could enjoy some lovely 5 minute advert breaks consisting of 2 minutes of adverts and 3 minutes of static screen before returning to see Felicia Day throw herself at a wall dressed as a custard samurai.
Can someone explain what happened with Kojima? I can't find anywhere what happened or a video or anything.

So his drink was spiked?
What a disservice to the videogame industry these VGA's turned out to be. I understand the funny bits, and I appreciated the well done Hall of Fame part accrediting Zelda, but nearly everything else was a joke.
I'd like to thank the panels for the awards for not looking out for the gamers. Bethesda, GOTY and DOTY? This developer has released a game that's unacceptable. A bug filled mess with wonky gameplay. One version has been unplayable, another C2D's rampantly for "many". The best part is they got up on stage and if I remember correctly, they didn't even thank the "fans". Let's give awards to a developer that has done that, and did they ever actually apologize yet? One that hid one version of game because they fully knew before they released it that it was a disaster.
This is "part" of the reason why "it's a bethesda game dude" is common speak when regarding quality. The other part is that people still buy the game despite knowing that it's going to be a mess, and they just hope on PC that other gamers will fix the game as always.
Sure, others were voted as well that didn't make much sense, but it's a taste thing. But there's no excuse for bethesda getting a free pass, and it shows off how anti-consumer and industry this has become. Any of the other games mentioned in the GOTY and DOTY catagory were more deserving of it (maybe not Rocksteady if the PC version is that bad as people say).
But Kojima, such a cool humble guy.
Because it's too good when compared to the rest of the games released this year?
Yeah, their games have bugs (though this game not as many, and while the PS3 version ended up being a mess, it doesn't mean all versions are), but given the scope, expecting it to be perfect would be asking a bit too much.
Skyrim is probably my GOTY too, btw. I had the PS3 version and it bricked my console (yep..), and yet I went and bought it again for PC, and I'm loving every bit of it. Have you even played it?
Witcher 2 is way better on this aspects that Skyrim. I enjoy both, but Witcher 2 it's much more deep on immersion.I've enjoyed Skyrim, but beyond bugs, I wouldn't call it GOTY just because of....
A total disconnect between various plotlines that have no impact on the rest of the game. You can become leader of different groups with opposing rules and philosophies without penalty. You can chose a side in the civil war, and still have free right to walk into the cities of the opposing side, even doing quests and becoming liked by their leader.
I'd give GOTY to Portal 2 of Zelda, just because those two games were just so much fun. Great blend of gameplay and a wonderful narrative. And both games had endings that just put huge grins on my face.
I'm happy Skyrim won. It's probably my biggest happy surprise this year.
Yes I've played it, and I can honestly say this was one of the first games in a long time where I would have to walk away from when something bugs out with AI escorts (falling through the ground, disappearing into walls). That's your opinion you're entitled to, just like I am mine where IF it was to acceptable levels of QC I can "maybe" see it as a GOTY contender (not winner by a large margin). My opinion is the combat gameplay for the most part needs an overhaul for a game released in 2011, and the bugs are ridiculous even on the PC with patches making things worse, I C2D more times in this game than I can remember in all other PC games I've played in the last few years combined. Let's add in how they purposely tried to hide a version because they knew something was majorly wrong as well. I would be happy if the game at least had 50% of the bugs found and I C2D less the same amount.
Unfortunately, thanks in part to the media screwing over consumers (not speaking the truth, with many new buyers and leery one's picking up the game unknowing how severe the problems are), along with them giving out awards, bethesda will continue to make substandard quality software for the foreseeable future.
People will defend anything these days though. Just my feelings on this matter.
how the hell did skyrim beat dark souls for best RPG?
oh, right, popularity contest.
Skyrim is overall highest rated as well at 95%, while Dark Souls can't even reach 90% overall average reviews going by gamerankings.com
Best part of the thread:
The text at the top of the Wheatley video says:
СПУТНИК НАБЛЮДЕНИЯ "ЛАНТАНУМ"
In english: OBSERVATION SATELLITE "LANTHANUM"
The Half-Life for the element of Lanthanum is 60,000 yrs. Soooo 60,000 Valve time equals???
He says: 1 1 1 at the end.
CES is sometime between 10/1 and 13/1 2012, which means 11/1 could be CES
LANTHANUM is Atomic Number of 57, In group THREE of the Periodic table.
The word lanthanum comes from the Greek λανθανω [lanthanō] = to lie hidden.

Anyone else find anything yet?
Wait, a lot of pages ago, Gaffers were lambasting her skits, but when a still photo is posted everyone's like: "Hell Yeah, that's what we wanted to see!"
Except that that filler and skits took up double than more time then almost all the awards did combined.LOL @ the overreactions on GAF. That teabag stunt was obviously staged, and the Felicia Day segments were cute and harmless filler.
Probably because she's fucking tidy.
Witcher 2 or Deus Ex won anything?
