Skyrim vs. Dark Souls is a fair fight, and I'd leave it up to personal preference as to which is better.

Personally, as a huge Demon's Souls fan and Oblivion hater, I probably preferred Skyrim more (despite some of its shortcomings).

Label me as someone small on the radar but I think Dark Souls or The Witcher 2 would have been better winners, if we're only looking at RPGs.

I was just talking about myself. I liked what I played of Witcher 2, but I feel like Skyrim was a different experience and a bit of a different sort of game. I also didn't play Dark Souls and the only console I own is a Wii so I can't speak for that.

Funny thing is that the only thing that the only thing I found okay about Bethesda's other media darling, Fallout 3, was the combat system, with the rest of the game being so fucking bland and uninspiring.

Trailer didn't show anything but Cliffy said something about exploring a world, scavenging for materials and supplies, and then fortifying and improving your base against zombies.

People are implying a mix of minecraft+terraria+tower defense.

Since all you do in Dark Souls is fight I would hope they do combat better. Skyrim's got a lot more things to worry about than that, admittedly it needs some improvement but it's not like DS is earth shattering in that regard. I've killed everything so far with a basic block, attack and roll variation.

You can also explore a lovingly hand-crafted world, and make meaningful decisions that impact the game world. Other than sheer scale, there is a lot more to do in Dark Souls than in Skyrim. The various systems, especially the combat, are so much deeper that it's just not fair to compare them.

People need to lighten the fuck up. It was a joke. There were many more far lamer jokes at this years Oscars.

Overall it wasn't great because it whored itself out to product placement and sponsors like crazy, but in terms of the tone and presentation it was light years better than last year.

I mean, sure the scope of the game is great, and like I said, I let a bunch of the bugs fly because of it, but is that also a excuse for the way it runs on the PS3? what about for the janky animations? what about the ancient combat mechanics?

What makes it credible? The way they pick their nominees and their winner doesn't inspire critical expertise.


Also I don't like the whole "but you do so much in Skyrim" bit. It is true to an extent, but it is mostly mediocre content(talking to NPCs in a RPG manner, crafting useless materials) or not very special(crafting gear to break the game, a lot more walking or horse riding when you can't fast travel). IDK, do people burn hours cutting logs?

This is a horrendous representation of the community we belong to. I am ashamed that this is possibly the most public facet of this industry (besides the media itself). You can say what you want about MGS games, but their trailers have always rocked. "ACTIVATE IT" is better than anything in that trailer.

I watched this, hoping it would be better than previous years. Just like previous years, this was a complete failure.

If they don't give out at least one award between each commercial break, it's a failure. And I mean actually giving out an award, not just briefly mentioning who won [insert award here]. They're so caught up on celebrity they fail to achieve what they claim to, awarding the best games.

Portal 2. + FREE dlc.

TF2 went Free to Play without ruining the entire game.

Dota 2 and CS Go reveals.

and the mother fucking never ending gaming goodness that is STEAM.


Bethesda made a slightly broken game on 2 platforms and a completely broken game on 1.

there first post release patch broke more things then it fixed and they are suing the Minecraft guy.

but thats just my opinion.
