These are not the Oscars, but they can help predict them. It's gonna be a splendidly fun night!

Arrival got robbed.

Also what the hell at giving the best comedy actor nom to gosling for la la land which is barely a comedy and not the nice guys.

Can't wait to watch. The Globes have started to become their own thing and make their own choices (which can be incredibly insane or inspired). Plus everyone is going to be drunk and sloppy except for a very pregnant Natalie Portman.

Haven't we all forgiven Mel Gibson by now?

Dude makes fucking amazing movies.
You can beat women like Lennon, you can murder like Don King, but god help you if you are in Hollywood and you say anything negative about Jewish people.

Not condoning the comments or even remotely agreeing with them, he's an idiot, but the punishment has been worse than the crime, people will never going to let it go.

Idk has he actually apologized or done anything since that makes it seem like he's not a piece of shit?

He has, but it's all been low-key and largely private. Personally, I don't think a public apology is necessary, but I won't profess to being an expert on the subject.

I am somewhat impressed that the Best Picture - Comedy or Musical category is populated by films that are either a comedy or a musical for once.

Yeah I don't really say anything close to that when I'm drunk.

I agree though, the way they treated Polanski was gross.

FWIW, I'm not saying Gibson should be forgiven or not, but he's definitely the most controversial man nominated at these awards. Could definitely see Jimmy ruffling his hair regardless.

I always enjoy the Golden Globes even if it's mostly the popular things getting awards. They give interesting choices in terms of TV, which is always nice to see. But unless you're People vs OJ or This Is Us, I don't think you'll be winning much tonight.

Man I'm still surprised at how much love Hell or High water is getting. I really did enjoy it but I couldn't shake the feeling that in terms of neo-westerns No Country For Old Men blows it out of the (high) water.

Fallon will be a terrible host...I read somewhere that he's planning to get his friends (Timberlake, etc) to open the show with him

Wasn't Casey Affleck accused of harassing women?

Why does he get a pass but not Mel Gibson?

So many shitty people in Hollywood I don't understand why Mel gets fucked exclusively...

While it's good to see the leads from The Americans getting nominations, the fact that the show itself got snubbed for best TV drama yet agin is just criminal.

Also, fuckin' Sing got nominated? Secret life of pets would've been a pick than Sing.

If you're thinking of the music playing in the beginning and end of Arrival, he didn't compose that.
I'm not, though I hadn't head the piece before when I first watched so I did not know then. I thought it was neat he could pull out that kind of music but I wasn't too surprised when I learned it was licensed music.

How off am I?

Mathew Rhys better fucking win for best actor already. Such highway robbery. Won't be upset if Odenkirk wins though but he has time!

Does Moana not qualify for Best Original Score? Is it cus it's more of a soundtrack?

I can't watch, I guess. I have NBC on Demand with my Sling, but not the live channel. Figures that NBC can't get out of the goddamned stone age.

Jim Carney's movies fuck with the very idea of the Golden Globe categories, since they're all dramas about musicians who sing throughout the movie but always within story.
