I think that would've made a better ending. One would think that Peter would be vengeful over losing the love of his life. It's a shame it didn't make it into the final film.

That would have been a more satisfying conclusion to the Green Goblin arc in this movie

Which is why I don't think those screenwriters actually wrote it

it kind of fits the movie and the scene though, i can picture it

i mean if they're going for gwen stacy's death, i imagine you'd be hard pressed to not include Peter's words of vengeance afterwards

but yeah, might be giving the screenwriters too much credit

Would have been cool, but also wouldn't have given time for Gwen's death to sink in. Also, if Spidey gets the black suit next film it totally makes sense for him to go fucking aggro when he next sees Goblin.

When Electro said "Remember me?" at the final battle, all I could think of was

I agree, that's why I asked for a link. Or source. Or something. =(

That sounds kind of made up, tbh.

There was a user on Super Hero Hype forums who was saying that. He said he saw a rough cut of the movie and the final scene played out like that. I also heard from those same forums that there were 3 different ways that Gwen died, the way she died in the final cut, impaled by one of those falling pipes, and Green Goblin actually snapping her neck.

EDIT: Off of IMDB trivia page I dunno how reliable any of it is, but here you guys go

According to the actors, the original Goblin vs. Spider-Man fight was longer and more violent, but had to be cut in order to keep the PG-13 rating. Things that were cut include a scene where the Goblin (Dane DeHaan) is conscious when Gwen dies and laughs at Peter as he cries over Gwen's body and a scene where Peter almost beats the Goblin to death after Gwen is killed.

and here's some more speaking about the different ways they shot her death

Several scenes involving Dane DeHaan were cut due to the disturbing and intense nature of the scenes. These include: Harry drinking and speeding while the girl he is on a date with begs him to slow down. An extended version of Harry's transformation into the Green Goblin, including his teeth growing and shattering, and his nails growing into claws. The Green Goblin showing himself to Felicia, who is in the building during the transformation, and sparing her life. In this scene, the Goblin kills Menken, and proceeds to destroy the Oscorp building. The Goblin cutting the web that Gwen is holding on to, which leads to her death. Alternate versions of Gwen's death also included the Goblin fatally stabbing her, and breaking her neck with his bare hands.

Sounds made up. If that was legit they probably would have mentioned it, like they have about the other stuff. Also no way they would have gone for such a vastly different death scene.

Also what pipes? If it fell it wouldn't have fallen perfectly straight up. Only gears fell. Which I don't even recall seeing on the ground actually.

I just got back from watching the movie, and, man, I really liked it. The Garfield/Stone chemistry was fantastic and I actually really liked Jamie Foxx as Electro. Harry's whole...arc thing sucked and the movie would have been so much better without it.

Also, I really hated the emphasis on Peter's parents on this it trivialized Uncle Ben's death.

This movie is probably a tad too long. I feel they dident have that one cohesive villain. Harry Osborn should of been a side character to introduce him then next movie have him be the main villain.

So basically like the original trilogy? I agree

Yeah it does sound far fetched. Like I said the source is some guy on some forum haha

I had loads of fun with this movie.

Granted, the layout of the story is pedestrian, and the story lines are dense but ride a fine line of only just being tied together and bursting at the seams.

The thing is, the chemistry and character representations are very fun in a sort if cheesy way. I bought electro as a sort of tragic, but crazy guy.

Fun times.

I was listening to a podcast and they say the original ending was supposed to have Harry still laughing after Gwen died. The fight resumed and Spider-Man pretty much beats the shit out of him, like near death. That ending gave the movie an R rating so that's why they went with the ending we have.

Yo WHAT THE FUCK

That's exactly how the fight should have played out.

Any of those would have been so much better I think. Definitely the goblin one.

No at that point he was all cool being a smartass. The movie is not smart enough for that level of subtlety.

God, that movie is such a mess.

Actually, that's exactly how I feel that movie went. He's kind obsessed with finding his uncle's killer, but when the lizard shows up and he makes the decision to save the kid instead of going after the lizard, he sees the gratitude from the father after saving his life. He lingers pondering that moment and the very next shot is him at home sitting and staring at the mask, contemplating its and his purpose.

I will say that perhaps his guilt in his uncke's death is handled perhaps a big too subtly.

Really? I didn't see it as that, at all. A man on the edge of death like that with all of the genetic experimentation that, thanks to Peter and his Zero Point Decay Equation or whatever, got proven to be valid and workable with Connors/Lizard. He totally juiced up prior to this movie. If this is anything like the Osborn in the comics, I wouldn't put it past him to poison his son with some false malady to spur him into chaotic action. And wasn't Peter under surveillance? That didn't start under Harry, I'm sure.

No kidding? Well, alright- have to go look him up.

You now that you mention it, I was actually looking out fir that exchange between Peter and Harry. In an early trailer, harry says that Peter us under surveillance "isn't that the question if the day?", followed by @we can LITERALLY change the world". On a later trailer, the omit "literally
".

I wanted to see what made the final cut, but either I missed it, or thd line was truly cut.

What the fuck, I wanted to see this. I hope ALL of it is included in the Blu Ray

eh, even if that rumor is true, I kinda prefer what we have. I like the emotional and photographic transition from Gwen dying to Peter cradling her to standing outside her grave as the seasons pass. Tossing in a brutal Goblin fight messes up that flow.

This movie is probably a tad too long. I feel they dident have that one cohesive villain. Harry Osborn should of been a side character to introduce him then next movie have him be the main villain.

I can see the corner they wrote themselves into. Because on the one hand, the ideal situation would have been to shine the spotlight on one villain (maybe two, if you want to count Rhino) while building Harry's arc in the background and ending on his transformation into the Goblin. On the other hand, this is exactly what happened in Spider-Man 2. ASM was already accused of unnecessarily retreading old ground, this would have copy/pasted the last SM2's structure beat for beat.

There was also Chris Cooper's "We have plans for you Peter Parker" line in one trailer. I have no idea where that would have been cut from though, since he's only in one scene and Peter was brought up at all (Harry hadn't even seen him again at that point).

It's pretty typical for movies to rewrite/reshoot while in the middle of production and use alternate takes of scenes, but it's pretty amusing how public the ASM movies are with this. Entire subplots are presented in trailers and then taken out of the final cut.

Yeah, I think the way Gwen dies is fine in the final cut. Having it cut back into a fight would've been awkward lol. Think about what you guys are asking for here, what would he gain from nearly killing Harry. It was his fault Gwen was there in the first place. I would've liked to hear the Goblin laugh one more time though.

One nitpick about the death scene, I can't believe they made him say "stay with me" 3 times after she was clearly dead. If they wanted to write something in there at least have it feel more natural. It was well acted by Garfield, but the line felt silly.

Disagree with this here. We know Gwen's dead because we knew it already. Peter just talked with Gwen a few minutes ago, and was trying to save her just a few seconds ago. Rational thinking is not what he did here, even if he knew she was dead.

It's not just about rational thinking, but timing. It's something that would've worked for me if he said it earlier but.. He's crouched down with her in his arms showing no signs of life for a good while. I don't think it was the best thing to write into that scene.

This was the exact line my brother and I hated in the death scene.

The venom and vitriol for this film is hilarious. It's a good movie.

I think it's a very bad movie, so let's just say it's a divisive one. The ASM movie series completely destroyed Spiderman for me, to the point where I'm not even going to see the third one despite Spidey being by far my favorite superhero. Mock me if you must guys, but I really really hope Marvel gets the rights back somehow. I can't take any more of this garbage.

72% dropoff in the past week with no new releases in its target market. Its getting destroyed when Godzilla and X-Men come out over the next two weeks.
