Don't worry, if it's anything like the movie, we'll suddenly be friends for no real reason very shortly.
Nothing seemed abnormal about Flash and Parker's relationship. I wouldn't call them friends either.

I like Gwen in this film but I just couldn't buy their relationship. It seemed so rushed and unrealistic. Her having a crush on him came out of the blue. Seemed like a convenient context to get her to go back to the tower
His role was more meaty that I expected. Denis Leary was smart casting. He has that Police Captain feel.Hey, another guy who enjoyed Captain Stacy!
I know Denis Leary has his haters and his fans, I'm not overly familiar with a lot of his work, but I surprisingly enjoyed his role a lot more than I expected myself to.

I feel like Peter Parker was a little too horny. But who can blame him.
The length people will go to defend some of these artless corporate cash grabs always surprises me.This thread is going back and forth. How did the Green Lantern thread go? Someone predicted ASM would have a similar reaction. Now i see why. These movies aren't iconic or memorable. They're just mediocre comic book movie cash ins.
I'm not sure why the lovers feel the need to defend this movie though. Everyone is in agreement that it's not worse then SM3. Which is the best compliment ASM can get.
Green Lantern is in another dimension of awful (mediocre and that movie don't belong in the same sentence), I'd be surprised for even the people who dislike this movie to say it's as bad as that. This thread is going back and forth. This is the only time I have ever liked something you have said. The length people will go to defend some of these artless corporate cash grabs always surprises me.

Way to go on a tangent. You could say that from your POV it was overdramatic, but claiming that is a fact when you know nothing about what it actually feels like, is just bullshit hyperbolic posturing.
[...]
The point is stop talking so authoritative about things you know nothing about.
Yeah, however you could have spared us the cookie cutter diatribe though and summed it up saying just that, instead you went on a tangent moving between armchair film director and uninspired film critic.
What the hell is your problem? You have this huge vendetta running through this thread against people presenting their well-reasoned critiques of this film.
For what it's worth, ViewtifulJC pretty much mirrored my thoughts and did it a fairly respectful manner.
I'm just expressing my opinions. There's thousands of post saying negative things about the movie, I've responded to 3 posters, stop the outrage as I clearly have no huge vendetta going on. Also I disagree that you and him have presented well reasoned critiques, thus I presented my arguments around that.
Relax, is just a movie, heck is based on a comic book character, why so serious?
Because you're telling people that their positions are "bullshit hyperbolic posturing."
Because you call their criticisms "cookie cutter diatribe."
Because you open up your arguments by calling them "tangents."
Because you call people "armchair film directors" and "uninspired film critics."
Yeah, you're real well-reasoned.
Yeah, you're real well-reasoned. And you're not "just expressing your opinions," you're personally insulting others before you even get to that part.
And I'm the one who needs to relax?
This thread has taken a turn for the worse. People need to leave this thread alone for a while. On both sides.

I'm really interested in the direction they take for the sequel.
I would love to know of they are going just keep gwen going, or are they going to introduce a MJ.
I mean I have a feeling they are going to do thefor the sequel. It just makes sense.death of gwen Stacy
Mind the misspellings and such, stupid iPhone
It's weird to hear you say that because that is one my favorite moments in the movie. There's a tendency for the bully character to be presented as a caricature for the hero to knockdown so he's all bully all the time and then a groveling coward after he gets knocked out.
The fact that he came up to Parker and wanted to express his sympathy just doesn't happen in these types of movies for characters in that role. They get cold cocked so all the nerds can imagine themselves beating up the guy that bullied them and then they disappear or become some weird sycophant of the main character.
The fact that they added that moment of empathy from that character was pretty awesome. They weren't friends, he was acting like a human.
Watched it today, gotta say, I was quite surprised at how much I liked the movie. Saw alot of negativity in this thread earlier so my expectations going into the movie were quite low.
The movie felt abit too familiar with SM1, which I guess it has to since it's an origin story, but I didn't realize that going in. Anyway, really enjoyed Garfield's spiderman and Emma Stone. ASM > SM1 for me. Though its also partly because I rewatched SM1 recently, and boy, it doesn't hold up as well as I imagined.
Just read Ebert's review after seeing the movie (stopped reading it before because it was filled with spoilers). I think Ebert's memory might be going, or he just wasn't paying much attention to the movie (not a good sign for a critic).

eh, what? They didn't really become friends, he was just trying to take it easy on him.
I guess you missed the part where he hugs Parker at the end of the movie?
One of the worse character arcs in a movie of all time srsly
So I actually bought SM1 tonight to compare them. From what I remember, the fighting wasn't nearly as good in SM1 and Spidey didn't use his abilities nearly as creatively, am I correct?
Like in this one he's all over the place and using webbing to catapult himself into people and swinging away and swinging back in for the kick, etc. There wasn't a lot of that in the first or am I misremembering?
I thought the action in this one was really good but I don't remember being very impressed with the fights in SM1-3.

I liked this a lot more than all the other shitty superhero movies that have been flooding the cinemas lately (Avengers included).
Hope the sequel is just as good!
