The Americans - S4 of the KGB spy drama - Keri Russell & Matthew Rhys - Wed on FX

- EW: FX's The Americans to end in 2018: Acclaimed drama gets final two-season order
The Americans is coming to end. But at least not for awhile. FX has given the acclaimed drama series a final two season pickup. A 13-episode fifth season will air in 2017, then a 10-episode sixth and final season is coming in 2018.

“It’s hard to believe we’re heading into the final stretch on The Americans, and we’re so grateful to know we’ll be telling the story to its conclusion,” said showrunners Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg in a statement. “The best part of the last four years has been the intensive and fruitful collaboration with all of the people who make this show … We’re looking forward to the final two.”

Added FX president of original programming Eric Schrier: “Through its first four seasons, critics have lauded The Americans as one of the best shows on television and, remarkably, a series that keeps getting better every year. All credit for that achievement goes to everyone who has worked on the show.”

The announcement will give the showrunners plenty of time to craft a final arc to their tale of married Soviet spies (Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys) in the 1980s. Perhaps the espionage thriller will also score an Emmy or two for its stars or showrunners as well – despite the drama’s love from critics (The Americans currently averages a chart-topping 95 out of 100 on Metacritic), Emmy and Golden Globes wins have thus far eluded the series (aside from a guest actress Emmy for Margo Martindale).

Three episodes remain in the current season, with the season 4 finale airing June 8.

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
Very good news. The writers know exactly when it ends and can plan accordingly. This is going to be a good ride.

Great news. Six seasons is perfect for almost any show. Looking forward to those two seasons, wish they would just film and show them right now.

Six seasons is perfect for this show. Great news.

Also looking forward to what the creators come up with next. I'd LOVE a World War II spy thriller series, but the budget might be prohibitive.

Really pleased with this and it's totally the right thing to do. Giving the writers the go ahead to plan for the end over the next two seasons can only strengthen an already top notch drama.

That'll make it 75 episodes in total by the time they finish up the series.
Like a Vertigo comic series.

Great news. 23 episodes seems like just the right amount of time for a slow burn show like this to wind things down. Super excited to see where we end up when all is said and done

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
Perfect news. Two more seasons seems ideal given where the story has gone. Signing the Js to develop another show is great, too.

Need a version of this gif with Henry:

Henry is gonna be the one making it awkward.

This does not look good for Phillip. If Stan starts suspecting him he will put two and two together and will think he murdered gaad too. That and the centre scheming is something they can't be happy about.

Oh fuck this dinner

Edit -
Henry: He works for the FBI.
Pastor Tim: Oh really?
Elizabeth and Philip studiously looking down at their plates, busily cutting their roast.
