Biggest thing this makes me realize is how none of the current artists are leaving a major impact on music like how these legends did...

There is a huge void in music right now, and nobody's gonna pick up the torch

Because there simply aren't any labels spending the same absurd amount of money promoting single artists like they did back in the 80's. Not to diminish the exceptional talent of the older artists, but it helps to have some broader perspective here.

Huffington post had a typo that was kinda not a typo, "Influenced by fuck, dance and rock music, he nevertheless tapped into a mainstream pop vein, with his worldwide pop smash ‘Purple Rain"

Perfect.

To be fair, music was a much more channeled thing of where you got it from when they were popular compared to now.

Now you can get music from just about anywhere without encountering a record store, MTV, the radio or whatever

Course they are, just have to die before we can validate them, same as all artists.

What a loss.

Has he created recently? Have not followed.

Damn, I remember seeing him last year just killing it on SNL concert. Seemed like was gonna be a badass for at least 10 more years

RIP Prince

Definitely another legend and man, I grew up with so much of his music thanks to my older cousins listening to his albums. Such an amazing guitarist and extremely talented individual.

you haven't lived until a random little kid ask you "how do you make love".

This so much. It's time for some new legends and nobody is stepping up.

Perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane.
Holy shit, I went through a huge Prince phase around 2007 or so; I still love his music. But I mainly have Prince to thank for introducing me to some of the best music from the 80s and having an incredible impact on my musical tastes, most have which I still hold to this day.

Goodnight sweet Prince. You will forever be missed.

He never really stopped, in terms of putting out his own material as well as continuing to be a mentor for new acts. His most recent album came out late last year, IIRC.

Honestly, a frequent complaint about his output is that he rarely took breaks between projects and spend the time on shaping things up.

I think he means the streaming services. Pretty sure MJ's stuff is on Spotify, Apple Music, etc.

Aye, Prince has almost nothing up on streaming and I know for a fact he was SUPER slow to even allow his stuff on youtube or digital at all.

What a shitty day all the same

Also I'm just finding out Vanity (Katrina Matthews) died this year too, back on February 16th. Damn. I loved her in The Last Dragon.

RIP Vanity :(

Was just about to post about her. Died only months apart too. When I first heard the news....I realized I had no idea what her real name was.
