I got grudge sucked!
Thats crazy. Prince and Madonna were the two 80s era musicians I never expected to die early. I don't even know what to say. RIP just doesn't cut it.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
Never really was a fan of Prince but goddamn, gotta respect a legend. What a scary year to be a celebrity. RIP.

Started listening to him late last year when I was looking to expand my musical horizons. The first was Purple Rain, which is amazing. Later, I bought 1999 which I didn't think was as good, but still a great piece. I actually enjoyed it more when I listened to it again a couple weeks ago.

Since then, I had been meaning to ask gaf about his other works that I should check out. I kept forgetting to, and of course, I never wanted to ask it in a thread like this.

Terrible news to wake up to hearing.

What the shit?

I haven't taken the "Fuck 2016" comments seriously but at this point, seriously, what the hell. It's actually crazy; they're dropping like flies.

What a bummer.

Diamonds And Pearls, The Love Symbol Album, Come, and The Gold Experience.

Parade and Sign O' The Times are really great too.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
He was one of (if not the) greatest all-around artists of all time.

Some of my favorite B-sides/album cuts:

Question of U
Girls & Boys
Sometimes It Snows in April
Ballad of Dorothy Parker
Joy In Repetition
America extended version
Mountains extended version
Computer Blue
Erotic City
All the Critics Love You in New York
Electric Chair
Star Fish and Coffee
Adore
Time
I could go on and on.

This hurts man. :(

I got his ...cassette tape ....lol...called The Hits/B Sides when I was younger. All this time I never knew what B Side meant.

I am amazed Erotic City and She's Always in My Hair are considered B side songs...

I always think of Scream 2 when I hear Always in my Hair tho...lol. D' Angelo did a good job on it.

You made me think Madonna also had died >.<

You are not alone....lol

Sign O' the Times. It's long and crazy, but I love it. Also, Dirty Mind. Controversy. Parade. Prince in the 80's is practically unparalleled in my mind.

Prince post-80's is harder to pin down, and I'm not sure if I would consider any of those albums classics but there's a ton of really good music that came from it regardless.

Prince's death sucks because it was so early, but a lot of the celebrities we grew up with and who have seemingly been around forever are at that age now. The coming years are going to be pretty sad in that regard.

There's going to be a concert from Questlove comin' soon. There's no way there won't be. And he's going to get D'Angelo right up front in that motherfucker.

And they're going to set everything on fire.

Around the World in a Day may be my personal favorite Prince album.

Pop Life, Rasberry Beret and Condition of the Heart would be all I need to tide me over on a desert island.

First Avenue (Minneapolis), where Prince started out at, is having a free all-night free dance party from 11pm to 7am to honor Prince, I kinda want to go to it.

Isn't his guitar sampled in the song Brothers Gonna Work it Out by Public Enemy??? Love them and that song. Not a big Prince fan myself but I'd say he was one of the most important artists out there.

If it wasn't in his will and doesn't go against his wishes. I wonder if his estate will take a more relaxed approach with his music and the internet. I've always felt like the lack of his presence on sites such as youtube were unfortunate because younger generations probably discover a lot of great older music thanks to it. Even myself at 35 still discover some great music from last 60+ years which I probably otherwise wouldn't have.

I will be on the look out for that...thanks. Reminds me music awards shows will most definitely do a tribute.

Reading this thread you realize Prince had a massive catalog of hits. Pop Life is a fav of mine too. Desert island....or a nice warm, sunny Saturday morning or afternoon out in the country.

when I look at Prince's (and Michael's) musical legacy, it makes other similar acts (Bruno Mars, Usher, Bieber) look so damn small and mediocre.

it't sad to see Prince go.

here are two (Sorry for the bad quality) gifs I did some months ago, I'd like to post them to remember him

None of today's artists are on that level.

Looks like downtown Minneapolis' skyline will be lit purple tomorrow :)

It's amazing to see how much of an impact he had on that city and how they've come out to honor him.

Nah, if it's a live performance, D will be there. I'd bet on that no hesitation. If it's just Quest dj'ing, then nah. But if there's a live band, and Quest is behind the drums? D's gonna be out front.

I would give up a hell of a lot to get there tonight.

I would love love to check that out.

I tell this story from time to time:

My kids knew about Janet Jackson. Had her concerts, music. For some reason I never introduced them to Michael Jackson's music.

A year or 2 before Michael Jackson died for some reason I had this MJ play list vibe and finally let them hear and see him perform.

Kids became instant fans.

One son was 3 or 4 at the time...and ....every time...as soon as I played Wanna be Startin Something if he was nearby he would turn his head real fast towards the music and just listen. He wouldn't dance but you could tell he was listening.

I hope his family do be more relaxed with it too..
