Go. Now.
Just do it.
I wish I could be there
Go before you regret it forever. I guarantee you have hundreds of friends there
We need some GAFfers in the field!
You'll regret it if you don't go. You ain't exactly going to be alone...
Man I should have gone down tonight... celebration of his life tonight in Minneapolis
What?! This is a once in a lifetime thing. Just go.I haven't been following the thread. But I live in Minneapolis and First Avenue is putting on an all-night dance party as tribute. I actually have tomorrow off of work too. But I can't convince myself to go to this thing alone :/
just mentally adding up the total cost of all those albums, I figured I'd start small.
Fair enough. I do have a big soft spot for the song Controversy itself though. But the album did seem like a stop gap before the one-two punch of 1999 and Purple Rain.
I'm trying to convince myself, but my social anxiety is way too bad. I just can't do crowds like this without having a group of friends:
I don't disagree. It's basically him popping the clutch before dropping into a completely different gear.
Many of the CDs are super cheap on Amazon right now, and include MP3 versions as well. Could be a cheaper way to get the stuff, and then the discs show up in a few weeks when they get restocked.
And then he went into a controlled skid with Around the World in a Day, then started to accelerate again with Parade before lapping everyone with Sign O' the Times.
Around the World in a Day was good excluding Temptation.
I said "controlled skid." As great as the album was, it was a step down from the preceding two albums. Of course, the two before it were damn near perfect, so just about anything would be a step down.
And I do have a soft spot for Graffiti Bridge.
Having touched that guitar, it was nice of Prince to let it ascend to heaven at the end of the song.
I can't hate on it too much.
It has two of his best songs, Joy in Repetition and Question of U.

Looking over the track list for Bobby's recommendation of Hits+B-Sides. It includes Scarlet Pussy. All is well.
Touching tribute.
What are your opinions on Shockadelica?

"Touching" indeed.
Touching tribute.
Why do we keep doing this? Why do we keep sleeping on living legends while they're breathing? I'm all for celebrating Prince, but can we start having blow outs for the gods that remain? Prince should have lived to have seen this outpouring.

Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, and Paul McCartney are getting up there in age...

You left off two very important ones:
I said it back when Bowie died, and will say it again. We know that Death is in a bad mood when it finally takes Keith.
I think he knew he was loved.
I don't doubt that Prince felt loved every time he performed. You can always tell from his live stuff that he is loving what he's doing.
Had to add onto these, from one of the Facebook videos posted earlier. (album link) In the process of making these gifs I Would Die 4 U has become one of my top 5 Prince songshere are two (Sorry for the bad quality) gifs I did some months ago, I'd like to post them to remember him
so badass as a dancer, love his moves,
Prince would routinely rock a show north of 3 hours, wait an hour, hit a nearby club, and play for another 4.
That's essentially a work shift minus the lunch break. For every show.
He knew.
