Anybody got a link to the album version of Shhh?
I haven't heard it in forever.

The first site that does a $5 per album Prince sale, I'm gonna load up.

EDIT: Oh Lord. The Gold Experience has gone from $13ish to $100+ on Amazon.

So glad I already own physical copies of all his albums. The Gold Experience is so fucking good.

I don't know alot of his stuff but I love little red corvette. I know he wrote nothing compares 2 u as well and that's one of my top 10 songs of all time.

You should really look into getting yourself a copy of "1999" since you love "Little Red Corvette"; all the other songs that accompany it are just as brilliant and unique, an absolute joy to listen to.

I'm listening to "Something in The Water (Does Not Compute)" right now and I can't get enough of those retro computer-y synths; it's such an atmospheric song.
Prince was a master at creating mood in his music, he takes you on a trip.

I never really listened to Prince, except for his most popular songs that get radio plays, it's still a bummer. The music world lost another icon.

Ive no idea why I havent picked up 1999 before, I have a bunch of his other work on vinyl but jheez the scalping begins. Discogs min price for any copy is now £25+
Hopefully got a copy for £10 off some google site.

Interested to know what happened...

Wouldnt be surprised by cardiac arrest. I doubt he lived life in the slow lane

And don't forgot

Tom Waits is going to be another that rips a hole in my soul. He's a wordsmith like no other.
Add Buddy Guy as well.
Buddy's 79, yet looks, moves, and plays like he's 30 years younger. He puts on such an amazing show and if anyone has the opportunity to see him live, don't pass it up. And, as the last of Old Blues Guard, my heart will also ache when he leaves behind his legacy to us.

Oh shit. I forgot but last night via facebook someone I know likeed a post and it had this link to this bootleg of his last gig (Atlanta?)

Prince, Piano and a Microphone

Its split into files and even has artwork, bear in mind this is literally a mic seemingly left on stage or something, but i clicked about and hit a great cover of "A Case of you" by Joni Mitchell.

Respects. 2016 has been a rough one.

It's unfortunate that until recently he actively sought to block his music from being heard, or even purchasable in many cases, online, which for those who aren't deeply familiar with his discography (apart from hits heard elsewhere) made it less easy to become more than a casual fan.

Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, and Paul McCartney are getting up there in age...

Those and Roger Daltrey, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page.
Countless others, but those are my only idols left i think

Prince was completely unexpected for me.
Tbh, there are huge chunks of his output i don't care about, but his highs are among the highest for me.

At least I could see him live.
I probably said this before, but he ended the concert with Purple Rain, on an absolutely soul melting guitar solo.
I'll remember it as the most emotional piece of music i ever witnessed being performed live.

RIP

EDIT: fuck, how could I forget Roger Waters

This guitar solo is God like by him.
And I don't care that's it been posted already like a bazillion times. Watch it again!

The solo was awesome ... but that god damn outro. He just tossed the guitar and it vanished? Now I'm a grown as man, I know guitars just don't exit the realm of the living, but some one please, tell me were it went.

And let me know GAF, what is your favourite Prince song? Mine is "Sometimes it snows in April". Oh man the feels.

I've listened to more Prince consecutively within the past eight hours than I probably ever have in my entire life but it was damn worth it. Will probably be doing it again lol.

Devestated. My eyes are dry and so painful.

Prince was my main man.

So glad I was lucky enough to see him 8 times this year on his piano & a microphone tour in Australia.

Such a unique gift he gave us with this tour.

Just 100% raw talent. No flash stage or dazzling dancers etc., just the man and the music. Audience in the palm of his hand each show.

And then the announcement of his memoirs? Who was this prince in 2016?! A prince who knew something we didn't.

Still too crushed to properly articulate what this death has meant to me...just thanks for sharing your gift with the world.

We will miss you.

My boy Brad was handling lights at 1st Ave last night. He said at 3AM the servers came out and starting serving everyone pancakes. At 5AM, the sun was rising and there was no sign of the party stopping. At 7AM they finally killed the music and raised the lights. Most people were still dancing.

Keep dancing all weekend GAF. Peace and love.

He was certainly an interesting character. I really liked his 80s/early 90s pop stuff. But whatever weirdness was going on with him seemed to affect his music a lot too as time wore on. In a way, his talent became a bit wasted.

That talent was considerable though - crazy how good a guitarist he was, but that was just one of his skills. Singer, songwriter, performer, musician - he had it all.

I'd mentioned this before, but having had Prince caress it as he did, Prince then released the guitar to ascend to heaven. (I'd like to think Prince is playing it right now.)

You have no idea what you're talking about. Talent became wasted?

Seems like you have a cursory understanding of the "weirdness" and an ignorance to a lot of his catalog.

Plenty of amazing, experimental and funky music extending well beyond the 90s. More hits than misses, and that's all that matters.

This makes me so sad, I don't usually cry when a celebrity dies but I teared up big time when Prince passed today, last time I teared up like this was when Robin Williams died. His George Harrison cover was incredible. And to top it off they were playing his greatest hits at Barnes and Noble today during my break. :(

Correct, the only medical treatment a Jehovah's Witness will refuse is a procedure involving either whole blood or whole blood components like plasma (due to the very sacred view of blood outlined both in the Mosaic law, Acts chapter 15 and their faith in the sacrificial value of Jesus' blood). A JW may even accept certain blood fragments in their treatment if it doesn't bother the individual's conscience. JWs encourage healthy eating, moderate drinking and regular doctor visits. A Jehovah's Witness can also be a doctor and practice both medicine and surgery, again, as long as it doesn't involve blood due to their strict adherence to the spiritual value of Jesus' blood.

As someone else said, Jehovah's Witnesses are also major advocates for modern medicine, in decades past they even worked with Johns Hopkins University in the influence and creation of the university's Center For Bloodless Medicine and Surgery. Found some more info about this here on the Johns Hopkins resource site and a lengthy article from the New Yorker last year about the impact they have had on modern medicine:

http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/bloodless_medicine_surgery/news.html

http://www.newyorker.com/tech/elements/how-jehovahs-witnesses-are-changing-medicine?intcid=mod-yml

Also correct. Even if he had AIDS as that somewhat tacky tabloid article speculated, there is no way Prince was told "Hey, don't take your meds cuz God cured you!" as JWs do not believe in carasmatic "miracle" rituals and believe that only the Hebrew prophets, Jesus and the apostles were empowered to miraculously cure people and also for the reasons outlined above.

TLDR version? Yes, Prince was a Jehovah's Witness (he said he converted after studying with his friend Larry Graham of Sly and the Family Stone who is also a devout member) but even if that tabloid site linked is correct that he died in part due to AIDS (which would make his passing even more sad and tragic), he would not have been told by JWs "Don't take your meds, God cured you!" because the only medical procedure JWs do not accept are whole blood transfusions and they do not believe in modern day miracle cures. But since an icon has died, some people just have to have their Elvis style conspiracy stories. If he had been a Christian Scientist I could see why people would lean towards reading into a theory like that, otherwise that article is way off the mark.

Now let's watch Prince shred on While My Guitar Gently Weeps:

Great post, you explained that far better than I could have.

Apparently that "flu" that he was suffering from a week ago was actually the effects of a drug overdose. He left the hospital after only 3 hours because they were denied a private room.

Looks like the decline started soon after.

No need to get angry there buddy.

Personally, I don't think a talent as huge as Prince should have disappeared to the extent that he did. Much of that was by his own design as well.

Has anybody talked about what a great song 7 is? That was the first Prince song I ever fell in love with as a kid. I eventually bought the Love Symbol album with money I got for Christmas. I'd play it for friends and they'd look at me weird for being into it.

Yes! I love 7! It really hooked me into his art. At the time, I followed this up by going back and getting the Sign of the Times double CD. Such great music.

Damn, OD'd :(.

How many good ones will drugs take from us?

It's on TMZ.

Prince was treated for a drug overdose 6 days before his death ... multiple sources tell TMZ.

We broke the story ... Prince's private jet made an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois last Friday, hours after he performed in Atlanta. At the time his reps said he was battling the flu ... something we questioned because his plane was only 48 minutes from home before the unscheduled landing.

Multiple sources in Moline tell us, Prince was rushed to a hospital and doctors gave him a "save shot" ... typically administered to counteract the effects of an opiate.

Our sources further say doctors advised Prince to stay in the hospital for 24 hours. His people demanded a private room, and when they were told that wasn't possible ... Prince and co. decided to bail. The singer was released 3 hours after arriving and flew home.

We're told when Prince left he "was not doing well."

.

Prince was famously anti-drug. I'd be absolutely floored if drugs were the cause of him leaving us.

He might have mixed things. Not on purpose. Meds, man. They are serious. All drugs are. You should never take them lightly, because you don't always know where they're really coming from, the quality control around it, or how it could have a chemical reaction to your normal every day routine.

One thing is for sure, in my opinion. Prince's death was a surprise to him at his final moment. Him dying in an elevator makes me think this.
